I was glad you noticed the lyric change. That's what makes the style change hit so hard. Delores had this sad haunting vibe that was mournful of the death and destruction. This version is filled with more pain and anger that it's STILL happening around the world.
They changed "same old theme since 1916" to "same old theme in 2018" and they changed the weapon order from "tanks, bombs, bombs guns" to "tanks, bombs, guns, drones".
This is my first Bad Wolves song. My sister is a huge fan of theirs and I'm a huge fan of the Cranberries. One day one of us got the song stuck in our heads and we ended up humming it together and we couldn't figure out how each other knew the song. So she introduced me to this and I introduced her to Delores, which helped her understand the video.

The first time I heard this, the change from 1916 to 2018 and the addition of "drones" really hit me because 100 years later here we still are, killing each other.
It reminded me of The Green Fields of France with "Did they really believe that this war would end wars?"

Yeah I love what they changed lyrically but for me the tone is generic. In her voice you can feel the anger and the bitterness. But for me he is too polished. Funny that I like it and it irks me at the same time. And obviously that's just how I find it, clearly others find it the other way.

@@rrw_au9584 this would have been absolutely amazing with their sound and her voice. I was glad that that was the original plan. Someone did a thing that spliced this with the cranberries version to give us an idea and it's beautiful

@@KaitLynnHt Seriously? Is there a mashup? I would love to hear it. Dolores' talents are still being spoken of and used by vocal coaches and teachers around our world. The keening, the pops, etc.. And the hard rock vibe she could have worked with here.... Jeeze. Our world needs recognition of genuine artists in their time. We need to save ourselves from all the sh*t she was protesting.

      And now for the truth.
Tommy was kicked out of BW because of his constant drama. He's a big fan of Trump and has a huge victim complex. He tried to sue their manager and lost. He set up a GoFundMe that was shut down because it was fraudulent.
Vext is an absolute clown of the highest order. His live vocals were shocking when I saw the band; I was shocked how different it was to on record, the amount of pitch correction needed. He's now sunk back into obscurity where he belongs.

Another little thing that I appreciate about the singing in the song is that they didn't try to force doing the signature "yodel" during the repeated "eh, eh, eh." That part of the original song has been memed to death over the years by, mostly, people that don't really appreciate the true meaning of the song. So the fact that their version of that small part of the vocals is true to the rest of the darker feel of the cover, really shows the care they took.
I love this cover, I love this song, I love music.

As others have said, Remember When is a very emotional song about Tommy's history with his brother that I would highly recommend. Another song I would recommend is by Tommy after he split with Bad Wolves, called Strong For Someone Else. His voice just conveys so much emotion, so when he sings these more ballad-y songs it just... hits.

I grew up during the troubles, though i was a child, and this was a song that was something I didn't understand until I was older.
Now that I'm older and have experienced war against insurgents, I have come to fully understand the depth of the meaning of Delores's words.
It is always children that lose when grow folks can no longer agree to be civil and work out their problems.

I have been requesting this for awhile and am very happy you came around to finally giving it a go. I was happy to hear when this song released that a portion of the money raised from digital spins would be donated to Dolores' children. to my knowledge at least $250,000 has been donated. Bad Wolves still perform this song with their new lead singer Daniel "DL" Laskiewicz. The song still hits home when DL sings it. Find a live version on youtube and the crowd will go all in and sing with lighters/cell phone lights waving. Its extremely emotional and moving. For reasons that need not be covered here, Vext is no longer with the band and DL has taken the reins. They do not play too many songs from the first 2 Vext albums live (Disobey and N.A.T.I.O.N.) due to the personal nature of many of the songs. But DL has fronted their last 2 albums (Dear Monsters and Die About It). Hope this shines a little bit of clarity on the bands current status.

He changed the lyrics in a few places. added the 2018, and also reference to Drones in the chorus which is not in the original, further bringing home the point of the song, that war is still ongoing and the pain is still very real. Love your take on this one Liz!

The way "Dolores" is desperately painting on the window, trying to get her voice heard from the other side, and then she finally at the end is satisfied that her message got across so she turns and peacefully walks away. 😭😭😭 Also, I'm a 50 year old woman, and rock/metal manages to touch my soul in a way that not much else does, so it's nice to hear a musical expert come to appreciate it the way that you expressed here. ❤

"Killing Me Slowly", "Remember When", "Learn To Walk Again", "Lifeline" and "If Tomorrow Never Comes" (the last one has 2 versions - the original and feat. Spencer Charnas from Ice Nine Kills). There's also a banger from The HU featuring the current vocalist of Bad Wolves - "Black Thunder".

18:50 you may be right about the meaning of why they did it. The effect is known as a phaser, it splits the guitars signal in two, one is the normal tone and the other passes through a filter that makes it come in and out of phase with the first. It gives a really nice up and down sweep to the sound.

I saw the Cranberries live in Va. outside of DC. The evening before that concert the cranberries showed up at the base of the Washington's monument, and proceeded to put on a free concert that was broadcast live via local FM radio. They didn’t have a park permit, so the park police shut them down before they finished their set. Dolores and the band felt they owed one more song to the people that showed up on the mall, so they broadcast the last song live from the concert to end the free concert. She was so cool. She surly didn’t need auto tuning her voice was perfect.

I loved the Cranberries version, but this version blew me away, Dolores voice added to this heavy version would have made it perfect. I was fortunate to see Bad Wolves perform this song live, and it was immense, it's such an iconic song, and Bad Wolves took it to another level. Well, if you can look past his politics(and I recognize that some of his new songs ARE political), Tommy's still making some very meaningful, beautiful songs on his own. He has cleaned up quite a bit recently. He made amends with Bad Wolves, but said he will probably never perform with them and it really split their fan base in half. It also shows that Tommy brought so much for the band and they really don't have that same heart beat in newer music.

@@ProjectGRIDLOKTI like about as many of their songs with Daniel as I did with Tommy, so I'd have to respectfully disagree that they've lost any ground. I find Daniel's voice more versatile. • @ProjectGRIDLOKT

@@Mystress1980 you can respectfully disagree, but their success post vs prior Tommy's firing says otherwise. Even their album N.A.T.I.O.N. did better than most of what they've done since D joined. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's a bad vocalist. Just don't mix up versatility with delivery. Tommy's voice resonates much better with the fans and he had a very big following and fanbase just by himself. I'm not saying they fell off, but it's very clear that they are not as successful with D vs Tommy. I feel a lot of fans are split like with Killswitch Engaged where they've had 2 separate leads who had different levels of success with the same band.

I wasn't much interested in the original. Mostly because I didn't know the backstory and the inspiration for the Cranberries. That brief guitar solo is such a wonderful example of 'channeling the emotion' of a song rather than just 'showing off' for the spotlight. This is an amazing cover. I am a HUGE Cranberries fan, their album No Need to Argue was on my permanent playlist (was rocking that 6 disk CD changer in the trunk boyos!!!) and got me though some really tough times in my early 20's. I was absolutely STOKED to hear that Dolores O'Riordan was going to add her vocals to this cover....then the news of her death hit me like a freight train. Then I heard this rendition, and saw that Bad Wolves was donating the proceeds to her children...broke me even worse in the best possible way. Well played gents...well played. Great reaction as always!

The part where you talked about how the singer moves to a higher pitch by... well, I don't get the technical terms but I get what you're saying... even though I don't understand the terms, I know exactly what you're saying. That's what I often did when I used to sing a lot. My voice doesn't go very high so I needed another way to simulate those notes which would seem to be in the next octave. It's a difficult thing to learn. Big props to the artist for perfecting it.

A Perfect Circles' rendition of "Imagine" seemed to do the same thing in conveying a more dark sound in its construction. Both very well done.

I love this cover. I also like how even though they updated some of the lyrics, but still stayed true to the original song. I also love the image of her interacting with the band. The thought of Delores singing this with them would have been epic.

Ok...., 1st Time I've seen this.... WOW!!! & THANKYOU !! I love Cranberries & Delores so much. I had Tickets to their Perth WA Concert.., which was cancelled because Delores injured her cruciate ligament in a ski accident in the Alps' Val-d'Isère and underwent major surgery. In September 1994, only a few months before their planned Australian Tour. They were never to grace our shores again..., & then Delores left us 😥 Hearts broke all over the world.., for what we lost that day xoxox R.I.P

Tommy is a super cool dude too. Ran into him out in the crowd at Mayhem Fest about 10ish years ago and my buddy and i told him we were hige fans. Hes a very humble person and greatgul to his fans. He even gave us CDs of his demo solo work he was recording prior to forming Bad Wolves.

There are so many things right with this video. The woman touching the mirror was actually a stand-in actress, named Ava Capra, and not Dolores.
Also, the tone of this song presents itself differently than the Cranberries. Not a knock, but it demonstrates how powerful a message can be conveyed by voice. In the Cranberries original version, it had the tone of "we are waiting for something to happen" cause of the subdued volume which she is singing. So the power of her message was in her accenting the words and melody. In this version, the tone turns into "we WANT something to happen" , reflected by the power and passion behind his voice as he is singing
