This is great news. I feel like we need another setting on Track Mutes which allows us to set the Mute style to Audio or Midi. Audio Mute would cut off immediately, and Midi Mute style would allow the audio to trail/fade out with whatever tail is present on that track. What do you think?

Marlow, the machine is the same. If you wanna, you can have one one on 2 and one one on 3. But they have to make 2 projects compatible with 3. So extra hardware is not needed. Just 2 ones instead of one one. And yes, I for one, I had fun writing this one.
So glad to hear they brought the Mutes workflow back. Now get them to bring the Clips program back. Where you can just throw on some loops of varying lengths and let them loop continuously. That was my song Mode, jamming on Clips. And while we're at it ... It would be AWESOME if muting drum pads was "local" instead of "global." Meaning; muting or un-muting drum pads on one sequence wouldn't affect all sequences, unless I wanted them to. It should be a setting. Also, is this NEWEST version of MPC 3 available for download? (Never mind. My MPC alerted me)
I agree with @thinkerthunker .. I think this is the proof that customer complaints are part of beta season. It's our duty to highlight the need for clip programs ! It was a very useful for mach-up, live shows and arrangements.. I keep my hopes up ! Thanks for your works Marlow
Yeah I would love a deeper modulation matrix for the sampler. Coming from logics quick sampler the filters (and) envelopes are so amazing compared to mpc’s. I can get more control of my drums etc
@@jeromethames1225 2 words my guy: creative control. I feel limited with mpc’s sampler. Also I can easily re sample and manipulate melodies not just drums. If choosing better sounds works for you great. I like flexibility to do both
Both options would be nice honestly. Audio mutes allow for playing ninja micro edits, clean transitions, no worries about sample length, and send effects should keep trails. Midi mute definitely has advantages too though
@@TheCratesMotel If you use MIDI tracks and route them to the desired track, you get the same effect. Mute the MIDI track and leave the 'Master' track un-muted, fx tails etc will continue to be heard. When just triggering samples now, I'm using MIDI tracks to address the 'Master' and leaving that free of notes, kinda like leaving the 'Master' just as a sampler device with open outputs. My suggestion for Akai would be to introduce dedicated MIDI drum/keygrp/plugin tracks with all the modulate-able parameters pre-mapped that can then be routed to a master. That would bridge so much I think and is pretty essential as at present as you can't have multiple tracks in a sequence that address one internal instrument with different automations. Certainly not easily, possible via MIDI control settings and I think you would need to loop back the MIDI via the ports..
@ 6:50 yeah I loaded a blank project with a new drum track program. I noticed that in pad mutes that the mutes were grouped with no way to un-group them. I also found bug that plays a sample (bass on the one) would play switch from Seq 2 to Seq 3 momentarily
now if only they could add the "features" instant track mute / event mute back and hopefully a program legacy everybody would be happy without a pain and drama

I think they should have done this in the first place with certain aspects of the MPC combine a new workflow with an old workflow. Keep the good things that have made an MPC and MPC and then add on newer aspects to take the MPC even further but always keep that solid base of what an MPC .
Ok so this is the update I’ve been waiting for I have to say I gave my feedback with akai about having the options to put in the mpc to work both the old way and the new I love that they are listening and giving the people the option because at the end of the day that’s what it all about. Tracks mutes and multiple sequences are how I build my beats so. I’m excited it seems like they are heading in the right direction. You said marlow the last option is to have programs back it can be as simple as clicking the box if you want to have programs or just tracks. Am sticking with MPC 2 for now because am a Looper, and track mute Fan, there no video on Looper for RnB writers and Hip Hop writers who work alone, in standalone . Audio Slicer is good for MPC 3.
Yeah for now I have no idea about the state of clip programs. These are the type of topics that Akai should make a video on and address the community and explain what is happening with mpc.
Before I try 3.0 again I'd like to know that time signatures are fixed (so we don't just have 4/4) and that the arpeggiator for the key61 works again. But the improvements look good.
The new workflow is good. It just needs an option to add a marker 🔰 to tracks, so that certain tracks can automatically occupy the 4x4 pads in each sequence. For example: in sequence 1, I can decide that track 1 is the one that occupies the pads... But in sequence 2, I want to choose that, for example, track 4 automatically occupies the pads when I select sequence 2 (without necessarily changing the position of the tracks)... and so on. We know that pressing MAIN can select the track, but this is a delay for live performances. The MPCist may choose that each sequence is a song and want to have quick access to certain tracks per sequence. Just as track mute is now optional, this addition of a bookmark could also be optional.
as much as i like 3, i have a hybrid workflow and not currently able to open 3-made projects in controller mode, only able to open new projects or projects made in 2.0 standalone. cant wait to hopefully get a 3.0 software or a more seamless compatibility! other than that its nothing but good things that i have to say about it.
I have heavy bugs, I cannot save projects, regardless if on SSD, internal or SD Card. Also still like on the first version the MPC hangs itself up while booting up and the only way to reboot is to put out the power cable.
I don't agree. Drum sampler as is very advanced. Now it supports 8 layers, you can resample in 1 click. It's pretty close to drum rack of ableton. Now keygroup is another thing. S1000 - s6000 up to z4 and z8 allowed for deep midi modulation, multiple filters and very deep sampling. Filter automation is the first thing to do, but somehow they don't do it. Incredible! Why samplers from 1990 onwards could do it but 2017 sampler can't?
It would be great once the MPC 3 is ready if Akai would also allow us to turn off of this new workflow and allow us to use the exact same workflow as MPC 2 with the programs. This is very important to me.
Marlow, I feel like no one is addressing the lack of compatibility with legacy projects. I have always created live sets where each sequence connects with a program to make a song and uses track mutes to play live. These type of sets don't load correctly on MPC 3. You also can't create new sets like this on 3. I sent some notes to Akai about it through the beta testing feedback link. Maybe a checkbox like you mentioned to bring back programs could resolve this. Pretty disappointing to not be able to play older live sets anymore. I think you might work this way also so you understand what I mean.
i have mpc live since day one but never found a way to load sequence i made in different sequence within the same project. i still don't get it lol, i didn't investigate too much but tried from time to time abd invane... i tried even today in this 3.4 but seems impossible, why i can't open package and find the seq and program i need
@@deepeightyeight If I'm understanding you correctly - in the browser screen you can click the settings icon to show the contents folder for a project. From the project contents folder, you can load an individual sequence. Is that what you're saying?
You are right! I think they should keep programs and just add the track mixer. Would be great to have the option to send the programm to a submix or a different output, but by default the program should go to the track mixer. Another option could be to keep the routing like it was and just being able to set volumes using the track mixer. I really like how each pad and q-link is used for one specific program. It makes much more sence to me than the new track-mixer layout... I didnt update because I am using my MPC for live-looping sets and need the old features. I always need all my programs accesable by one klick and being able to just mix the programms instead of tracks. Thanks for letting me know whats going on with the updates :) They really should just build a new machine for the new workflow. Looks like I wont be able to update... so if I want to check out the new software I will have to by a new MPC anyways... Do you thinks they will be bringing back programs? Have a great day, marlow :)

Hey Marlow. Any workaround for starting a new idea in a blank sequence? We have mutes back, but even if Seq 2 is empty, it'll have every track from Seq 1. It used to be a blank canvas for every unused Seq.
@@mpchead that's too bad. It should be optional. Copy a seq with the events (or just the tracks/pgm's like it was on the 2000) or at least be able to independently delete or rearrange the order of tracks without it affecting other sequences
Does the track mutes follow through when converting a song to a sequence as before? No mention of clip programs though. All they need to do to rectify that is give a trigger option in drum programs.
That is a good question, so far the compatibility is working as long as with have no complex program changes in different tracks. If you do then it will be a mess.
@@mpchead thx exactly my point that's why I'll stick to current version at the moment unless Akai makes a solution because the creative part of it as it is what's interesting. Do you have any advice for a way to save the projects that can be suitable for 3.0, maybe dumping sequences out like audio files to make it possible to start over in the new updates?
How about mutes for sequences, instead of global. Is there a easy workaround? The tick box isn’t working. Currently it's making my workflow slow. Thinking of downgrading until it's sorted.

Hey Marlow. I have a serious question. What happens if we all stick to 2.15 and forget about the 3 forever? They are turning his into a DAW (and more DAWification coming for sure) and you normally buy an MPC because you DON'T want a DAW. So the question is: Why is people concerned about just staying with 2.15? People create music with all sorts of legacy machines from the 70s, 80s, 90s some of them with clunkier interfaces than a gameboy. Stick with 2.15, forget about 3, and keep making music and having fun. Or am I missing something like people is afraid it will be a forced update or if new plugins are created they won't be on 2.15? Would appreciate your point of view on thism Thanks for all your great videos btw :)
Well I think that if that happens and people just stick to 2.0 akai will have to accept it and rethink the decision they made. They either make a new mpc or reintroduce old workflows back in. I honestly know as much as you at this point, grab some pop corns and let's watch this go down. Also the best thing is to wait for the official release before making any decisions. I just wish they could address the community and say what they want or where they are going with this.

I think it's great that Akai have given the choice to users. If I find something in 3 that's a dealbreaker for me, I'll go back to 2. I still use an MPC 4k with version 1.71 lol. I see no reason that future plug ins would not be available to 2 users as things stand. They may even continue to tweak it a bit depending on feedback. I've got to say this level of support/upgrades on these machines over the years has been pretty good. Don't understand some people losing their shit over it.
how much would this affect the MPCS with two gigs of ram will the updates on the sequences be able to function properly along with everything else with only two gigs of ram?
the correct term now is 'program mutes'. hehe ohh dear we are in a pickle without tracks. this is the issue. they gona have to write some new mute logic because there are no tracks. it has to have multiple options. i need my cymbal tails to be left alone while muting, just the notes muted but this is not the case. its the full program mute. its not really fixed at all. its presently unuseable with my drums. we need a note mute or full program mute option. what you think marlow ? i aint messaging them, maybe you coudl deliver the idea to add a program specific mute function for note only or full program mute, and a seperate function to tie it to the sequence or not. i like the open mutes between sequences ( yes iam the only one lol) as i once mentioned but all this just needs to be an option.

I hear You… I love to make a 4 or 8 Bar loop of My Finished Tracks, Then Double up to 64 or 128 Depending on The BPM of the Song, Then hit Record and Mute out on The Fly… I Gattah Have This Ability because it’s The Most Natural Way of Creativity.
Am I crazy or is something weird happening with the kicks and low end? almost sounding distorted.. some of my projects are loading up incorrectly and there seems to be some timing issues across some of my beats because certain samples arent warped properly or something… idk whats going on, but overall cool update but I want my beats to load up exactly the same as 2.15 and I can’t say they are.. something is going on with them
Mouse functionality would be a great addition for MPC. The mouse was considered revolutionary as a control apparatus for all types of computer systems. What is taking Akai so long to relate to common day functionality. It’s like get with the program! Akai people say it’s not necessary so for those who don’t need it don’t use it. Very simple.
HOw come only some people have the mpc 3.0 and the rest of us have only 2.1.5 and it does not show anywhere to download 3.0. second question someone with a youtube channel sent me the 3.0 beta link to download it i did and it even shows up two different ones in my AKAI account but once installed on the hardware when you log into INMUSIC account from the hardware i t wont let you cause it said error and my machine made that audio interference sound like when a microphone and a speaker get to close together so now i have to reach out to akai let them knowi want those erased i downgraded back to 2.1.5 and se if they will let me be a beta tester with an account of my own. Also i have the software 2.1.5 but there and i have not even seen beta testers with the 3.0 software how long before everyone else you think will have it with 2.1.5

Bring back programs per sequence next. Some people want audio streaming which I think was the main pretext for doing this, or more DAWlike behaviour. Good for them, but if that's the tradeoff I'll lose streaming and take the flexibility of freely assignable programs every single time.
I think they carried all the features and workflow from the Force and then started exploring from there. With the Force you don't need Track Mutes because you just focus on creating new clips instead. Anyways, with this new update everyone should be happy. I hope they keep working on it. It's crazy to think how much the MPC has evolved since 2017. This is a great era.

Exactly dude. I literally just made a video about it. You can send the channel to a send effect though and it keeps the tail when you mute.

yeah still a bit buggy, happened to me again today. didn't happen while I was making the video so I couldn't show it but it is definitely buggy.

Marlow, I feel like no one is addressing the lack of compatibility with legacy projects. I have always created live sets where each sequence connects with a program to make a song and uses track mutes to play live. These type of sets don't load correctly on MPC 3. You also can't create new sets like this on 3. I sent some notes to Akai about it through the beta testing feedback link. Maybe a checkbox like you mentioned to bring back programs could resolve this. Pretty disappointing to not be able to play older live sets anymore. I think you might work this way also so you understand what I mean.
i have mpc live since day one but never found a way to load sequence i made in different sequence within the same project. i still don't get it lol, i didn't investigate too much but tried from time to time abd invane... i tried even today in this 3.4 but seems impossible, why i can't open package and find the seq and program i need
@@deepeightyeight If I'm understanding you correctly - in the browser screen you can click the settings icon to show the contents folder for a project. From the project contents folder, you can load an individual sequence. Is that what you're saying?

You are right! I think they should keep programs and just add the track mixer.
Would be great to have the option to send the programm to a submix or a different output, but by default the program should go to the track mixer. Another option could be to keep the routing like it was and just being able to set volumes using the track mixer. I really like how each pad and q-link is used for one specific program. It makes much more sence to me than the new track-mixer layout...
I didnt update because I am using my MPC for live-looping sets and need the old features. I always need all my programs accesable by one klick and being able to just mix the programms instead of tracks.

Hey Marlow. Any workaround for starting a new idea in a blank sequence? We have mutes back, but even if Seq 2 is empty, it'll have every track from Seq 1. It used to be a blank canvas for every unused Seq.

@@mpchead that's too bad. It should be optional. Copy a seq with the events (or just the tracks/pgm's like it was on the 2000) or at least be able to independently delete or rearrange the order of tracks without it affecting other sequences

That is a good question, so far the compatibility is working as long as with have no complex program changes in different tracks. If you do then it will be a mess.

Do you have any advice for a way to save the projects that can be suitable for 3.0, maybe dumping sequences out like audio files to make it possible to start over in the new updates?

How about mutes for sequences, instead of global. Is there a easy workaround? The tick box isn’t working. Currently it's making my workflow slow. Thinking of downgrading until it's sorted.
Why would you want to mute a sequence?

Hey Marlow. I have a serious question. What happens if we all stick to 2.15 and forget about the 3 forever? They are turning his into a DAW (and more DAWification coming for sure) and you normally buy an MPC because you DON'T want a DAW. So the question is: Why is people concerned about just staying with 2.15? People create music with all sorts of legacy machines from the 70s, 80s, 90s some of them with clunkier interfaces than a gameboy. Stick with 2.15, forget about 3, and keep making music and having fun. Or am I missing something like people is afraid it will be a forced update or if new plugins are created they won't be on 2.15? Would appreciate your point of view on thism

Well I think that if that happens and people just stick to 2.0 akai will have to accept it and rethink the decision they made. They either make a new mpc or reintroduce old workflows back in. I honestly know as much as you at this point, grab some pop corns and let's watch this go down. Also the best thing is to wait for the official release before making any decisions. I just wish they could address the community and say what they want or where they are going with this.

I think it's great that Akai have given the choice to users. If I find something in 3 that's a dealbreaker for me, I'll go back to 2. I still use an MPC 4k with version 1.71 lol. I see no reason that future plug ins would not be available to 2 users as things stand. They may even continue to tweak it a bit depending on feedback. I've got to say this level of support/upgrades on these machines over the years has been pretty good. Don't understand some people losing their shit over it.

I never installed an ssd so I can't say much. Didn't even know there was an issue with it.

Im having trouble with track mutes… when i mute a track on a seq it also mutes track on another seq as if the Seq are the same. Any help?

I am wondering what happens if you now convert a long sequence out of a Song (with sequences with diff mutes), and look at it in the arrangement mode.
You don't see nothing because the arrangement view is just window shopping.

the correct term now is 'program mutes'. hehe ohh dear we are in a pickle without tracks. this is the issue. they gona have to write some new mute logic because there are no tracks. it has to have multiple options. i need my cymbal tails to be left alone while muting, just the notes muted but this is not the case. its the full program mute. its not really fixed at all. its presently unuseable with my drums. we need a note mute or full program mute option. what you think marlow ? i aint messaging them, maybe you coudl deliver the idea to add a program specific mute function for note only or full program mute, and a seperate function to tie it to the sequence or not. i like the open mutes between sequences ( yes iam the only one lol) as i once mentioned but all this just needs to be an option.

It does but they're not all on the same screen, audio tracks are separate from midi tracks

Am I crazy or is something weird happening with the kicks and low end? almost sounding distorted.. some of my projects are loading up incorrectly and there seems to be some timing issues across some of my beats because certain samples arent warped properly or something… idk whats going on, but overall cool update but I want my beats to load up exactly the same as 2.15 and I can’t say they are.. something is going on with them

Mouse functionality would be a great addition for MPC. The mouse was considered revolutionary as a control apparatus for all types of computer systems. What is taking Akai so long to relate to common day functionality. It’s like get with the program! Akai people say it’s not necessary so for those who don’t need it don’t use it. Very simple.

HOw come only some people have the mpc 3.0 and the rest of us have only 2.1.5 and it does not show anywhere to download 3.0. second question someone with a youtube channel sent me the 3.0 beta link to download it i did and it even shows up two different ones in my AKAI account but once installed on the hardware when you log into INMUSIC account from the hardware i t wont let you cause it said error and my machine made that audio interference sound like when a microphone and a speaker get to close together so now i have to reach out to akai let them knowi want those erased i downgraded back to 2.1.5 and se if they will let me be a beta tester with an account of my own. Also i have the software 2.1.5 but there and i have not even seen beta testers with the 3.0 software how long before everyone else you think will have it with 2.1.5

You have to activate the MPC 3 Beta within your hardware like a plugin...after that the weird sound will be gone.

Bring back programs per sequence next. Some people want audio streaming which I think was the main pretext for doing this, or more DAWlike behaviour. Good for them, but if that's the tradeoff I'll lose streaming and take the flexibility of freely assignable programs every single time.

I think they carried all the features and workflow from the Force and then started exploring from there. With the Force you don't need Track Mutes because you just focus on creating new clips instead. Anyways, with this new update everyone should be happy. I hope they keep working on it. It's crazy to think how much the MPC has evolved since 2017. This is a great era.
