I have always been intimidated by flash. I spent years as a videographer using constant light and never thought I could get my head around the flash. For the first time ever I understand it and went out and used it successfully. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Thank you so much and I’m going to keep learning from your helpful videos, God willing. I am 63, but thanks God, still moving like I did as a teen… I am looking for classes with substance like yours with an online College (with Senior discounts) and an in person lab.

Great video, one thing I like to do is make sure the flash is on the opposite side of the sun, so if the sun is top right to the model, have the flash in front on the left. Otherwise, the model tends to look cut out. In this case I think Pye has the sun right behind or the tree is blocking so it's a non issue.

Good rule of thumb, it can tend to get a little repetitive if you always default to that approach tho. But yes, it's a great recipe for a consistent result!

Love the tips and you are one of my favorite "Teacher" here on RUclips, clear explanation, talks slowly with a non-annoying voice, etc ^^
However I'd have 2 questions from that video:
1- I see the retouched photo are a lot brighter. If it was what you seeked for as a result, why not simply reduce the shutter speed a bit or increase flash power during the shoot?
2- Any reason to use "Shoot through Umbrella" rather than "Reflect from the Umbrella"?
    Thanks! :)

liked the video but was hoping to learn about the power settings of the flash. Main thing I struggle with. what is high and low power and the 0.3 - 1.7 numbers next to the power. Wasn't really covered
