Another Fine Lesson Tomo! Looks like a hybrid picking lesson is in order. New players have a hard time with double stops because of the hybrid picking. Just a suggustion. I know I had a had time with it in the begining ( 100 years ago). We are so lucky you do this. I have played for a very long time but I always always learn from you. It helps me stay interested and to pratice.
Really take a lot from each of your lessons! Regards from a classical Orchestra Violinist who fell in love with the Jazz and Rhythm Guitar in the old days. Thanks a lot!
Fantastic lesson Tomo. So much soul on double stops. As a guitar player, I can say they are almost like a cheat code beacuse they are much easier to see (at least to me) and the ability to slide and bend notes really makes them so versatile and easy. On the keys, they are harder to see and transpose (obviously) and are harder to apply as tastefully. Using a pitch bender wheel can open it up a bit, but since you can't bend two notes a different amount with the same wheel it's not the same.
That has to be the most beautiful double stop lick I've ever heard. Put that with fender roads, an organ, bass, and heavy reverbed drums, and I guarantee everyone drowns in the feels.
Another fantastic video! As a self taght guitarist I'm very thankful for your lessons. Double stops was something very missing in my playing and I didn't even know about that. From the bottom of my hearth thank You very much for your work!
Thank you a lot for sharing your knowledge. A lot of things is starting to assemble like puzzle by watching you and practicing a lot, it feels really nice. Being gratefull. Best regards !
Absolutely loved this lesson Tomo and learned a lot again....lost me at the solo around 17 minutes but hilariously funny again as usual!!!! Great lesson and well presented. Thank you again. Dean. 😊
Thanks for your patient instruction. This one helps break the cage. Those three notes I play with my ring finger on a root 5 bar chord…so-do-mi, if I play them with my index finger now I can grab new colors with my ring finger… 🚨🚨🚨 thanks again!
Tomo, could you do more of these type of lessons where you play the triad melody and use that to explain the theory. It’s pure gold and will help so many
You're very welcome! First triads! C E G on 123 set stings. X X X 5 5 3 = X X X R M3 5 ... learn them slowly without memorizing! That's root position. Then E G C on 123 set strings X X X 9 8 8 = X X X M3 5 R .. That's 1st inversion! G C E on 123 set strings X X X 12 13 12 That's 2nd inversion. That's all you need to know first! Take your time!
Got..it! Technically I can do level 1 of this lesson, but I understand the theory also of level 2 & 3. Such a good lesson, makes me feel like I am improving!!
Yes, many players have done and employed double stops in this manner, but I believe Mateus Asato is the current king of the technique. I really like that man, he's incredibly melodic and diverse. Tomo sir, do you have any advice for those who want to play like Asato, Mayer, and others?
Yes! Mateus told me how he learned his triads! That's why he can play freely! Very talented guitar player! A great example of someone has full of foundation! Not just knowledges. Information is so easy! But use them musically... is not easy! Triads & Major scales without any shapes! Intervals!

As an old guy who started late with guitar, I just can say: never put it down and never give up!😊🤗 A guitar is more than an instrument! It is: diversion, happiness, joy, fun, spiritual comfort. It is life quality! Keep playing.🤘🏻😀
I had to google what a double stop is and am already playing them! 😊 Just started recording and found out full chords don’t always sit in the mix as well as double and triple stops
Wow, you mentioned double stops sounding like 2 guitars so I just practiced adding them where I would normally accent a note. It really feels like a 2nd guitar is hitting with me on those notes, adding extra suspense or release to the phrase. I’m a beginner, but try to spend 15-20 minutes practicing the basic level of your videos. Even my wife says I’m sounding better 😁
Hi Tomo and thank you for this lesson. So when soloing how do you know when to come out of the double stops and go back to single note improv. Is it a feel thing or sound??? Sometimes my solos sounds like not a smooth transition. I hope that makes sense. I hope you can do a little more on this subject…. Thank you!
You're welcome! Both. Feel from music & good knowledges from theory. Both mix together = freedom! You are thinking about scales! Plus, you need to separate between PRACTICING & PERFORMING.
This is WRONG ! Those are not double stops. In street terms they're called moving 3rds, 4ths, 6ths(3rds) which includes power 5ths and octaves. In classical terms it is called Parallel motion. I studied classical counter-point for a year (A-). John Tropea - Muff Lenny White - Universal Love and Gary Hoey - Hocus Pocus are examples of double stops.
@@TomoFujitaMusic I know it's a I - V - vi - IV and its super common, but it's just eerily similar. Great work on this video. Thanks much and salute to you Professor
