Catching Big Snook From Shore Fishing With Jigs

- In this video I catch a HUGE snook on a jig and reveal a bit of my mindset when it comes to selecting a good time to go fishing in a favorite spot. On this particular adventure all I fished with was First Light Tackle brand flare hawk style jigs.
Next Big Fish Video:
• Massive Bridge Monster...
You will also be encouraged to watch the next upload as I've provided a teaser clip of the biggest fish I've ever caught while fishing from shore. The giant fish in the next video that I landed took me ten minutes to haul in.
The snook caught in this video were all released and swam away strong. The season is closed now because they are in the process of migration to spawn in the inlets and beach shores. Neither of the fish that I landed would have been legal to keep if the season was open; one was too big and the other was undersized.
I'm getting totally addicted to snook fishing with flare hawk style jigs. The monsters, pig, toads, tanks and giants love to thump this lure. I like to give a huge shout out to First Light Tackle for producing high quality lures that catch big fish!
Congrats Jc! Beautiful fish! Bet you are really starting to like jig fishing, eh?. Keep up the good work!
Thanks again for watching and commenting George. There's really a learning curve with jig fishing, a very expensive one at that...I'm totally addicted to fishing with them. Where I caught this snook, it's unbelievable how hard the THUMB those jigs. I'm starting to hear reports of snook cruising the beaches, yeah!
Rad Reeling Fishing The jig thump is awesome. They hit that thing so hard!
@@RadReelingFishing whats the best way to work the bucktail jig your using ??
@@danielmogavero5764 That's a good question. The jig is best fished in heavy current, really ripping. Cast, let it hit bottom, reel five to six times and let it hit bottom again, repeat. Vary this process, sometimes reel ten times and let it hit bottom, then try just letting it hit bottom and do a very slow straight retrieve. Keep working the jig near the bottom until you figure out what makes them bite. Maybe turn the reel handle once and let it hit bottom... If you are fishing near a light, burn the jig really fast through that area along the top of the water. If you are fishing along a bridge shadow, burn the jig really fast along the shadow edge. The bigger Snook are going to be near the bottom though....
@@RadReelingFishing thank you
So happy for you. Awesome catch 🐟
Thanks for the encouraging words Evie. I'm happy too!
That first fish that broke you off you should have loosened your drag and kept your hand off the spool and let him run to tire em out
He’s catching them in structure. A big fish like that you can’t give them anything until your away from structure. Then he can wear them out. Chances are he went right into structure and got broke off on structure. He knows what he’s doing. He’s not fishing a pond or the flats.
What's your retrieve for these bucktail jigs
ruclips.net/video/8nInJhZovM0/видео.html
Awesome video as always!
Thanks my man. I really like it when I have a lot of fish catching action. I actually had caught two other snook that night that I didn't put in the video, would have made it too long. Tomorrows upload will be epic!
how do you use those jigs? Just reel it slow?😭 and how you know what color to use?
The one that broke off was definitely a snook
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Dude ....is your Sunday fish a goliath grouper ???
I'll publish the video Saturday morning sometime. Thanks for asking.
Dude your fishing chanel is fucking awesome
How come you didn't let him run a little bit is there an obstacles and stuff in the way?? I think you should have landed that guy!!
That's what I was thinking, let that drag go a little bit. When the drag isn't set right they will come off.
Nice going JC! The chartreuse with both pink and blue are the best jigs hands down for the gulf. I've caught many fish over 40" on one of those 2 color combo's. 👍
Thanks for sharing. Yeah, I'm really liking the chartreuse with both pink and blue. One thing I'm not liking is the amount of frekin money that I'm leaving on the bottom of the ocean, ha ha...When the catching's good it's worth the investment.
Rad Reeling Fishing Yea, I know the feeling very well. You pretty much have to buy a dozen of em at a time but they do produce!
Yes sir that thing sure is a hog indeed. Awesomeness brother
Thanks for commenting. I watch your recent video. I'm rooting for you to get on some good fish soon!
Where at are you located man? I need to make a trip there soon 😂🙌🏽
Hey JC, keep up the good work brother... Your videos have definitely helped and inspired me. I grew up a freshwater fisherman and I've lived in South Florida for almost 5 years now. Every time I watch one of your videos it seems I get something out of it that helps me catch fish. For instance now I am jig fishing for Snook. So again keep it up my man!!!
good tip i learned is that i noticed that you should never put you hand on the reel but you should instead tighten the drag, when you put your hand on the reel it causes the line to break way easier, i lost a good fish like that
Congratulations on that fish ..it's Mike and family from west Palm we are waiting on the tide to change before we go out and throw flair hawks..we are watching some refresher vids to get pumped and this video is a favorite..keep it up..
Awesome catch man...epic loss as well..great video man as always
Thanks Mike, appreciate the encouragement. I'm getting caught up on your vids tonight, too much fishing and editing this week, not much watching.
Rad Reeling Fishing thank you man for watching those video's..looking forward to your next video man..can't wait to see you catch that beast..
What I'd really li kn evus of you showed an instructional video on how to jig fish inlets during the day. I jig fish for striped bass in inlets and the cape cod canal. Need some specifics ya know? Like what size jig range do you use and what tide ta gr speed do you use them in, do you jig it on the bottom or do you let it flutter and slowly tumble along the bottom. Do you use tip your jigs with bait or pork rind? What kind of poles reels braid leader do you use? All these things are important. I think there very close to what striper fishing is but I'm not sure. Only fished snook at an inlet once. The eye in my pole popped out so I didn't get to try much.
I like the sound of the Penn pursuit reel scream drag, man nice job on getting the second fish in. That was a big snook man and you did great job fighting it Usually most of the time it's all in how you fight the fish but it was an amazing video and I'm stoked on the next one to come. Over there on the Gulf is crazy in that spot I can see. Great video!!! KEEP IT UP. I love these videos. It makes my day man. I hope to do the same later on in life.
I let the ad play all the way thru so you can get that $$$
I have two rods I use for fishing snook around bridges..one is a 20/40 rain shadow and another is a 25/60 black diamond Phoenix...the rain shadow is a spinner and the Phoenix is conventional with a 7000 Garcia...I like the Garcia because you can throw heavier braid as far or farther than spinners with lighter braid...with mine I fish 65 pound...I don't lose any distance casting and in my opinion the drags are better than spinning reels....with those rods I have stopped 30 pound fish dead in their tracks while heading for piling...if you can throw a conventional you ought to try it...also wanted to say you should look into making your own heads...not that first light jigs are bad but just way too expensive...having made my own for years now I can tell you that they have about 30 cents in material to make one jig...they are making out selling those jigs...
Awesome sharing Doug, thanks! I'll eventually get rigged with a bait caster type; I'd like to be able to keep my finger on the line while the jig is falling so I can always tell when it hits bottom, then be able to reel instantly. In fast current it's tough to tell sometimes when the jig hits bottom with a spinning combo...too hard to hold a finger on the line and then reel quick enough...
you deserve more subs, nobody on youtube shows them catching snooks on flairhawks like you
Thanks for the encouraging words Allan. The channel is steadily growing. I'm really grateful for how many people have subscribed in eight months. Soon, very soon something will happen that will go viral. I thought the Goliath vid would have gained speed, but not yet...
How are you working the jig at night?! I have been trying for 3 years and not one snook
What are you catching Snook on? I usually either do a straight reel or straight reel and jerk a few times and bounce it on the bottom.
How exactly are you fishing those jigs? Deep water on the bridge? Also I think you’re in my area skyway bridge maybe
Bounce them on the bottom
I’m new at this snook fishing I got a 31 inch befor the season closed I’m finding out current plays a big part of it haven’t had any luck on jigs yet still trying to learn how you use jigs thanks jc love your videos see ya
Thanks for sharing Tony. Some things just take time, be patient, eventually you'll figure it out. My second snook catch on a jig was my personal best at 42". I hooked one on a jig that I could see while fighting it, about twenty feet from me, a tank, gigantic snook, biggest ever, eventually wore through 60 lb test on her teeth. I watch her slowly swim away with some new white and red jewelry. It was on a night when I didn't bring the Gopro, ugggh.
Lol...didn't know if you were close...I got St Lucie county dialed in...Martin too....know your south somewhere on the east coast....west coast snook don't take bucktails....if I had to guess I'd say west Palm....I understand...I don't post anything ...did once and every boat in stlucie county was there 😀😀😀
Doug Black west coast snook definitely take bucktails, check out Tampa Bay Fishing Club on FB lots of guys catching them in the passes on flarehawks
Doug Black I’m in st lucie county , where’s the best snook spots 😅
Yeah thats definitely not west palm
He's on the West coast
I see lot of guy using those jigs around bridges and piers. How do you think they work in the surf?
Yes they do.
I would recommend you show how your jigging the lure..
Thank you jc for the always very informational and helpful videos it has help me become a better snook fishermen and your videos will blow up soon if you keep putting out good content like you are keep up the good work 👍🏻
Maybe it was a nurse shark. Believe or not nurse sharks and even other sharks ususally hit artificials. One day i was fishing in a tarpon feeding frenzy and i did hook up something big with a swimbait, i thought it was a 200 pounds tarpon but it was a 7 foot nurse shark, they are so annoying
As much fishing as I've done, I've never caught a Nurse Shark, crazy. Thanks for sharing your experience.
@@RadReelingFishing yeah, it ripped my lure, it was crazy. They hit everything, or well maybe it's the spot where i fish there is so many sharks there
It’s sad to watch that video in 2022 and see what $30 could get you in tackle…
what are you referring to?
Is rainny snook fishing a good time to go fishing at night?
sure! Die hard Snook fisherman fish in the rain.
Awesome video man! Very entertaining. I cant tell you how many times ive had to grab the spool and POP! Heartbreaking...
Thanks for commenting. Yeah, it's heartbreaking, but watch the goliath grouper video of the same night, I got redemption! Nice profile pic, what coast of Fl are you located on ?
Rad Reeling Fishing Saint Petersburg! Thanks man. I got half a dozen 36 inchers last year and still trying to get to 40"+. I get wrecked by those goliaths at least once or twice a month fishing for lunker snook. I fish around heavy structure and even if you have heavy gear and locked down drag, sometimes you cant stop them! Where are you located?
Nice snook. Looking forward to seeing what that behemoth is.
I'll be releasing the video sometime Saturday morning of the big fish. Thanks for commenting.
Hardwork surely pays off.. soon ur vids will be viral JC ✌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thanks for the encouraging words Syed. It's a slow growth process here on RUclips. Getting a video to really take off and get a lot of attention will be an awesome thing to happen for my channel. Soon, very soon!
If you’re bangin/hangin rocks/bottom you’re in the zone
And there’s a lot of brands of jigs but First Light jigs is the best
you are a really cool guy but I gotta ask.. 36 is big to you ? I caught a 34 and I sure thought he was big but id think to someone like you that aint s*** lol. got me feeling kinda good about myself now nice vids and good luck to you I just know youll get that viral video soon!
Great content for sure. You should invest in a new reel, sticky drag is your worst enemy under alot of pressure.
Thanks for commenting. Yeah, I've learned some important things about oiling the felt washers on the Penn Pursuit 2 reels that have made a big difference.
What size rod and reel will do the trick?
Same spot where you slayed 8 in one night in like a hour or two I think. That spot is absolute fire!
It's not so hot since all of the red tide last year. Someday it will get better.
@@RadReelingFishing Yeah that red tide was a huge bummer but you definitely found ways to still bring us great content. I hope the water there stays red tide free so we can continue to see your awesome videos!
those jigs are made in my hometown
Enjoyed your video…💪💪💪 how do u work that flare hawk??? Big fan of your channel
I generally try different retrieves until I get some action. Most of my strikes come from bouncing the jig on the bottom. Plan on losing a lot of jigs, but that's where the bigger Snook hang out.
@@RadReelingFishing Thnk u for taking the time to answer
Damn... lol... wouldn't surprise me...I haven't fished over there since the 90's...early 90's at that...never fished Tampa... I had Charlotte harbor dialed in back in the day...only people tarpon fishing would throw them... Bombers. Mirror lures...small jigs is all anyone threw...topwaters ....cool though...thanks for the report...lol...if I ever make it over there I'll bring some😀
I saw that coming i would have let the drag off and let him run for a while
Thanks for watching and commenting. Go to the google search and type in "sheepshead" and you'll find the answer.
Born and raised .. west palm beach .. singer island .. fished my whowle life .. seen alot of fishing vidios ... strit up fishing with out a mile of bls bla bla .. greate vidio and a great fishermsn .. prop,s killer vidio

They usually keep cups of water ready to go
Can you do a video catching a grouper on lure?
Here are some: ruclips.net/video/nANXbJ4I-uE/видео.html ruclips.net/video/e4rctXTpyMs/видео.html
How do you retrieve this bucktail jig?
This video is time marked for you: ruclips.net/video/8nInJhZovM0/видео.html
Are u fishing a light on this video or r u at just throwing in a lot
Just fishing a deep area where there's structure, no light.
your smart you did not show anyone how to work the jig snook love them buck tail i caught lots of snook and that way is my favorite to fish
Keep it up good work I think tho I would like to say my friend when is giving you a hand u can take it's would be nice to see u take the help sometimes
Palm beach?
Where did u get the jigs?
local tackle shops sell them. Also, First Light is the name of the jigs I like. You can order them online.
Let some drag out for big ones like that you don't need to stop them immediately
Yeah they're pricey....both of the guys you buy your stuff from...first light and spooltek... Are over here...I know both of them...not well but we've had conversations....if you want to save a lot of money buy 6 imch swim baits....over here I've sat next to guys throwing spooltek and wasn't out fished...caught just as many right next to them...they had a laugh with me after they hung up And broke off ...they said losing those swim baits doesn't hurt near as bad as a spooltek 😀.... I said yep...as far as making them I have no idea...I can tell you you'll catch just as many on feathers And swimbaits though
Yeah, I met a guy fishing the jetties this week, exchanged ph numbers. He texted me this morning and said he lost $80 in Spoolteks this week getting broke off in the rocks by big snook, ouch...
That second fish was for sure a Goliath
Lol...yeah...I heard....that's new...or at least for me...I bet I could still work a snook over in Charlotte harbor on the rail road trestles....nobody was using them back in the early 90's...they are a primary bait here on the east coast... lol...so much so that just about any snook fisherman worth his weight makes his own jigs... In fact the first light jigs you guys use over there are made here in ft Pierce...they catch fish...I've had too many problems...hair falling out...mainly the price...believe me what you guys are paying close to 4-5 dollars for only cost him a quarter in material...takes about 2 minutes to make one....most of the colors he sells are generic... there are so many color combos that nobody know about because they are stuck having to fish what someone else makes...lol...getting an itch to go over and try it😀
Thanks for sharing your views Doug. Yeah, I'm sure making your own jigs costs less. You know what would be really awesome? If someone could figure out how to make a homemade Spooltek for a few dollars. I bought one of those the other day, $21 for a 9" silver and black. It was the first one I've ever bought. I actually caught a snook on it the first night I used it and lost a really good sized one.
Looked like that rod was gonna snap down between the last two guides
Great job man! Beautiful snook
Thanks for commenting Kevin. Some snook fishing masters keep telling me it's just going to get better for catching the big ones as the next couple of months unfold.
Please add the link to the description it’ll make it easier for people to find it Sorry I’m talking about the video you were talking about LOL
Here you go, ruclips.net/video/q32CDWtVai8/видео.html
I'm a little confused about why you were locked down on the second hookup. Why not let him work a little rather than horsing him around?
Thanks for watching and commenting. These fish are hitting the jigs right next to bridge structure. They have to be stopped.
Nice fish brother, love that jig thump. Do u use plastic swimbaits, I like the ones made by Storm. Not bad hooks and u can get them in diff weights fr 3” up to 6”. They aren’t crazy $$ either.
Thanks for sharing your wisdom! I looked into soft plastics a couple of months ago (your calculations are right) and then dropped the ball. Thanks for reminding me, I'll check them out.
Let that drag do some work.
Thanks for watching. There's too much structure and heavy current in this location to allow for much drag. Besides, there are some monster fish there sometimes. You never know when you might hook one of these there: ruclips.net/video/q32CDWtVai8/видео.html
I subscribed. Nice video. I’m on palm coast till June near Flagler any suggestions . Keep up info. Vids.!!
Thanks Dan for joining in the fun.
My girlfriend thought I messing around on her because she couldn't believe I went fishing while it was raining.
Oh man, I was accused of that many years ago because I used to fish so much late at night. Women just don't understand what snook fever's like when they are biting really good. Thanks for sharing.
New to snook fishing here, can you tell me how you were fishing your jig?
Thanks for watching and asking. You want to bounce the on the bottom. I think Land Shark's channel has a really good video for different techniques.
nice fishing, the only comment is that you should give more chance to fight. i think thats why you lost the first big one, let him get tired.
Thanks for sharing. Yeah, there's nothing but a huge pile of structure over there. They have to be stopped. Watch this video: ruclips.net/video/q32CDWtVai8/видео.html
Wow dude you had plenty of line left to let the drag do it's thing. Each his own I guess...don't panic!
Thanks for commenting. The fish hit the jig right next to the bridge structure. There's no room to let them run right there. Make sure you watch this video because I landed a huge fish in the same location: ruclips.net/video/q32CDWtVai8/видео.html
Do you do all your videos, with only one camera? I like what you are doing. Even a little jealous. Keep up the good work. I can't wait till, I get going.
Thanks for watching David. Some of my videos I use two cameras like in this one: ruclips.net/video/tiIfiyTmncE/видео.html
Where are you fishing anyways...not exact location which county...
Hey Doug, thanks for asking dude. Isn't telling you the county revealing my location? With the world of the internet all people need is a small clue and the investigation begins. If you are a true fishermen you understand why I'm not publicizing city names or even county locations. I went fishing with a friend last night who had taken one person to a great fishing spot a couple of years ago. Now that one person is traveling an hour to get there and bringing a bunch of his buddies to fish the spot...and so goes the multiplication of a great spot getting over crowded and fished out. If you want to snook fish in S. Fl. fish early morning at daylight throwing lures around every bridge you can find where the snook might be migrating through at certain times of the year, you'll find them there. I know, a long answer to a simple question. Thanks for being a subscriber.
What color is best jig? Sir
Keep multiple colors on hand. I usually keep switching colors until I start catching fish. I've caught my biggest Snook ever on a pink jig and the most Snook on jigs on a rainbow colored jig.
What is set up braid line?
Liked the video would like to see how fish that jig and equipment you use
I have a snook fishing playlist with several jig fishing adventures. I bounce them on the bottom. Heavy gear, 6000 reels, eight foot rods, fifty pound braid, eighty pound leader. Here's a good video showing the gear: ruclips.net/video/rfJlUJa_rXs/видео.html
Nice one 🤝👍👍👍👍💪💪💪💪
Do you just fish small bridges or big bridges I’m trying to get into night fishing and have been watching you and it’s helping me learn a lot.
I am glad the videos are helping. I generally am looking for bridges that have street lights casting a shadow on the water. Small or large bridges work when there's light.
Thank you
Nice linesider! Check out the Penn slammer III. Even the 4500 has I believe like 40lbs of drag! Just a monster of a reel...
Thanks for watching and commenting. I'll look into those at the end of the year when Penn has their reductions. I picked up a 7500 Spinfisher this year during their sale for a great price.
@@RadReelingFishing when is this sale and how can I get access to it?
Yes, I really enjoy your videos. Lot of fun to watch. I might have an extra slammer III 4500 and or 5500. On Star seagis rods. Let me know if you are ever interested. I dont sell rods and reels but I sometimes find some great deals. I'm retired but I work part time on the weekends at Bass Pro Shop, Daytona Beach.
Lemmy know bro!
10:28 that's why I use shimano stradic reels and g loomis rods
Please change your time mark. It's at the end of the video. Also, I'd love to hear more of why you use that combo.
You should try some of the gsj jigs custom made from a local here on the west coast great prices and quality jigs! You stay in the Fort Myers area?
Thanks for commenting Matthew. I just looked on their website; they are a lot thinner on the skirt flare than the First Light Tackle jigs and not any better priced. They also don't sell the weight I prefer. The First Light Jigs have really thick full skirts on them, super colorful too! I've tried three different brands now, First Light rules in my opinion so far. I'm not sponsored by them either. Thanks for sharing Matthew.
Rad Reeling Fishing sounds great it sounds like you got the product you need, I'd love to meet up and fish sometime if you would like! Can't find anybody that's as serious as me about fishing for some snook, reds, an grouper! I mainly fish land-based! Is there any other way I could contact you? I'll bring a jig for you too try as well! Have a great day! #tightlines
whats the best way to fish first light? let it hit the bottom and reel fast or slow?
The founder of the First Light Tackle snook jigs gives great tips here...ruclips.net/video/H3oNwgr9Mbk/видео.html
God i hate it when you loss one that you know is a monster and you just wanted to get a look at it to see what it was. Love your videos. You got a new subscriber and a big thumbs up.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Yeah, I really wish that I'd never lose another big fish for the rest of my life, ha ha...
@@RadReelingFishing Good luck with that.....lol. Just wanted to tell you about my best day ever. When i was 13 yrs. old my dad took me and my older brother fishing on the helen s. First time on a drift boat. First time in the ocean. Guy in the back of the boat hooked a bonita he let it snag about 5 peoples line. I walked down trying to untangle when i got smashed. Mate knew it was big jumped over the benches cutting all the lines tangled around mine.He had everyone reel up and get behond the seats. I had the whole side of the boat to fight this fish.We were right off Deerfield pier. About 50 people on the pier watched me fight this monster for one and a half hours. Finally two mate got gaffs in it. A 52 lb. Wahoo. It was a jr. class record and the best day of my life fishing with my brother and my dad. I'm 61 yrs. old now and my bother and dad have passed. But oh what a day on the Helen S!!!
What an awesome memory, WOW! Excellent description, I could actually envision a mate cutting all the tangled lines, must have been mayhem for a moment!
Keep it up...
I want ta see that fish !! .... your to good not to go viral
Well, going viral for me would be over two thousand hits in a day or so...I don't think the next video has the potential to get millions of hits, but it's an amazing catch from shore on a small fishing combo. I'll be publishing the video Saturday morning.
What’s best outgoing or incoming tide for jig fishing?
Thanks for asking. That will be determined by the location you are fishing and where the Snook are piled up. Snook generally face into the oncoming tide. Check out this video for good tips: ruclips.net/video/mQMts_1ayTU/видео.html
Btw.. What lb flouro or mono are you using nowadays? Looking thick, 60 or 80lb?
I bumped up to 80Lb mono Ande brand. . I think I'll stick with that for night fishing for snook in certain areas, seems to be working good.
What color ande line did ya use?
So whats that knot you're tie n boss
Clinch knot at the hook and FG ruclips.net/video/qQmUN0L4F6c/видео.html leader to braid.
Do you fish by the Miami area??
Thanks for asking. I've never fished there.
What’s to bets tide to fish for snook on?
Tides for snook fishing vary depending upon the location. Thanks for asking.
Where do u fish I Live in Florida
In the water
Another awesome fish and great video JC, nice work sir.
Thanks for commenting Jeffrey. It's a good time of year to be snook fishing. The big ones are getting ready to spawn and must be hungry.
sweet !! are you straight reeling them near the bottom or bouncing them off the bottom ?
Usually reeling really fast about fifteen good cranks and then waiting a couple seconds and reeling fifteen really fast cranks again. Thanks for asking.

And what size leader do you use?
80lb
