Wonderful play video. I love the focus on the map, and market card, while at the same time being able to see all the players on screen, and the live chat. Kudos on the great job!
You guys are awesome, please keep it coming! Thanks to you I order my copy of the game and can't wait to play it. And thanks Ash for the help understanding the game.
Thanks, as always, for just crushing it! Great teach by Ash, entertaining vid and, aside from the hiccups at the start, super crisp technical production. Deep, heavy, opaque game that's playable in under 2h and has some cool flavor to it? Yes, please.
1:12:30 Trade fair "Use this action to Discard the *facedown* card in the east or west Market" and that place is filled AFTER the two actions in "D2. Refresh Market Phase" step. In that moment "red-shirt" player could purchase the card with money earned on Trade fair. Discarding first faceup card is a good shortcut, but this shouldn't block possibility of purchasing the card( in that case second face-up card becomes new face-down card.
Great that this game is getting coverage. It is my favorite game from last year and the game I am currently most keen and excited to play. Only managed 2 games with other people but 8+ solo multiplayer games too. Amazing game although it is hard to find people willing to play a 45-75 min game with such a learning and playing curve. I feel the game rewards its demands exponentially. One possible problem alluded to is the potential shut out if you end up without concessions and empires- my own feeling is that with the range of win conditions and the mix of coronations, cards with pawns on them and one shots that will give you influence over an empire. The feeling of "not knowing what to do to move forward to a better position" is to me a mix of not understanding and seeing powerful potential moves and poor decisions that might leave you without useful cards/ops or the money to buy them for a turn. You might end up taking a turn or two to buy and sell a card or some other sub-optimal play to generate options again. In a game with not many turns that is indeed significant but keeps the game tense and exciting. It is a game that rewards repeat plays but also it is a game that plays remarkably well with 2 and for a 30-45 minute game it is an amazingly deep experience that tells interesting stories every time
Also love the video - not really possible to see the full board and tableau states watching the video - that highlights to me one of the downsides of the game, even in real life it is hard to track everything going on and there is a lot of busyness. Did highlight a couple of minor rules I may have got wrong as well
How did Edward get England with Isabella of Castille??? She doesnt have England listed as a coronation option, in fact he read through all the available regions and then said "England!"
Man, this is the densest, most brainburny game I've ever seen. I'd love to see you guys play this again since this seemed to end unusually quick! I'm super interested in seeing the religious aspect of the game kick in.
~ Pardon my "peripheral Pax" question here Edward, but I'm curious if you have a "Pax Pamir" teaching, & roundtable discussion planned for 2018... (perhaps a "Pax Porfiriana" T&RD too)? ~Thanks for the "hard work" of making games an even better experience for us!
Mathias Corvinus was the greatest ruler of all times to Hungary. There are great legends about his justiceship. Big or small people where equally measured. There is even a proverb that says ``Mathias has died, the justice is gone``
Guys, the link to your player aids is dead (someone has removed the file from BGG) - any chances of reuploading them? They would be super useful in my first game.
The player aid that you use doesn’t seem to be available on bgg anymore. Would you potentially have it saved somewhere that you could share? Thanks for any help, these playthroughs give me the confidence to teach and play this gem!
Out of curiosity, does Ash do any voice-over work, by chance? Great episode, guys! This is a real gem, but it IS opaque as all get-out. Seriously... nicely done!
Hey Guys, thanks for the efforts - I don't feel like the market was played correctly OR the rules are not very clear - If you check the latest current living rules, it appears to me that you do a market refresh EVERY turn and not just if you've purchased something - so if you take two non market related action you still do the market refresh in D2. Please help me figure out this market refresh stuff if I am off the beaten track here. Thanks again.
Kenneth Dolbey The Living Rules say "If there are gaps in the Market after you perform your 2 actions...you move each card in the Market". This looks to be one of the most recent edits though, didn't check when.
I'm still confused regarding the levies: - The first time the East Trade Route was run, all concessions were paid (even the green one between Mamluk and Turkey), so you checked for levies all along those cards, including the Mamluk one (when you said it was saturated and thus could not receive any levies). - However, when the West trade route was activated up to the green concession between Portugal and Englad (including that concession too), you did not put a levy in the England card. Why is that?
It's quite possible we missed it. If the Trade Route travels through a card, a levy (if possible) should be added. Thanks for watching that closely, Mario!
Would love to see Mike in Heavy Cardboard again. Always loved his input.
Wonderful play video. I love the focus on the map, and market card, while at the same time being able to see all the players on screen, and the live chat. Kudos on the great job!
Nice! Thanks for all your vids.
Hope you will make a teaching and playthrough on second édition of Pax ren!
Just when you think the quality limit is reached HC just ups the level again. Great job again!
Expect solo teaching with 2nd edition. Thanks for nice video all the time.
Thank you for this play through. Ash did an outstanding job and it was so helpful for me, thanks to hc and thanks to ash.

Great teaching! It would be great that, in the future, you upload a play-through of Pax Porfiriana

Rafał Kruczek I came to say the same thing...a bit late on my end
48:50 Eastern and Western Trade Fairs are listed as separate actions so I think you can do each once on a turn if you wanted.
Marc Campbell iu
You can perform one West trade fair and one East on your turn. Same with tableau Ops.
Still, amazing job! By Ash especially!

excellent explanation not over or under explaining
Mission accomplished then! Thanks for watching and the feedback, Dennisgreen!

Pax Porfiriana is definitely on the docket for sometime this year. Pax Pamir may be as well. The latter is TBD, but very possible. Cheers!
I am just wondering why this is not listed on the BGG 1st edition page? All the videos seem to be missing...
Great playthrough and very helpful, thanks to all!

Thanks for the play-through! This is one I really needed. ;)
Could you please provide a link for the player aids you used?
Thanks for watching Chris and I've linked to the two player aides that we're familiar with!
The player aid that you use doesn’t seem to be available on bgg anymore. Would you potentially have it saved somewhere that you could share? Thanks for any help, these playthroughs give me the confidence to teach and play this gem!
How are you guys so awesome?
Thanks, Really needed help on this one.
HO. LY. CRAP. Thats an tough game. I hope I can get a group together who wants to play this eventually.
What is more opaque: An Infamous Traffic or Pax Renaissance? You made the claim for both games about being the most opaque.
Why the House of Borgia was put away if it was not purchased by yellow player?
1:28:30 Barbarossa brothers turned the stealth mode :) - almost invisible on the black table ...
I hope at some point that Pax Emancipation hits the HC table.
Out of curiosity, does Ash do any voice-over work, by chance? Great episode, guys! This is a real gem, but it IS opaque as all get-out. Seriously... nicely done!

Thank you for making such excelent and fun videos!
the "teaching" is great. Very interesting. The game needs a player mat for the cards
Thank you, Steve! And yes, that wouldn't be a bad idea at all! Thanks for watching!
At 1:39:58 Ed plays Isabella of Castille and marry her with the king of England. How can this be done?
Very nice rule explanation ! But please, don't interrupt him while he tries to concentrate.
It is the only way that I had a chance! ;) Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!
Lot of freezing in this video. Voice continues, video stops.
Once we realize it was lagging, we fixed the issue.
I miss Ash
First ! :) THANKX
