Scott jumps out to get some litter a hyena found. They then move out. 12:41 to Stef. 18:02 to Scott with a large group of hyenas. 28:48 to Stef with some buffalo. 30:04 back to Scott with the hyena. 31:40 WARNING WARNING HYENA FIGHT GRAPHIC 38:32 WARNING MORE GRAPHIC VIEWS of wounded hyena. 57:16 to Stef. 1:03:03 back to Scott and the wounded hyena. Thank you, SuzHar for putting the warnings up. It helped me to proceed carefully. I'm just one of these terribly sensitive folk that have to generally be cautious with exposure. So, thank you, SuzHar.
I ~think~ what might have happened here is that the (defeated) Mamma was a trespasser, considering that she was quite obviously calling for help and the others went into ready mode for her clan to arrive. Perhaps her cub was spared because the cub ~might~ have been sired by a higher ranking male within the clan whose Alpha it was that doled out this horrible punishment. The fathering male may have even been a consort to the Alpha herself. Of course these things are quite difficult to sort out. Hyena are very complex Animals.
Poor Mamma and her cub. I know it is their way but it hurts the old heart and brings forth the tears anyway. I wish them well, whatever 'well' may be for them.
And such an incredible contrast then seeing the other Mom and her cub. Their environment is one of extremes and so can also be their lives.

I only read half of your comment but male hyenas don't have any rank at all. Their rank is lower than a newborn female hyena. The hierarchy in a hyena clan is females rule,they are at the top and the male are at the bottom of the bottom. Just look it up,you'll see.
This absolutely made me want to cry. That poor poor hyena. :(

I hear many comment on the intelligence of the hyena. Must admit they haven't been my favorite, but I have gained a new respect for them today. Watching the young hyena accompany the injured one was astonishing. Imagine if she had to travel away alone. Would she have had the drive to move from where the attack took place? Who knows, but the encouragement of the young hyena brought me to tears. Maybe with it's help, this injured hyena has a chance. The makers of wildlife documentaries ought to follow this. Might be a great story in the making.

For the last few months I have not seen a single safari as it happened, because the schedule start times have been way to early for me.
At 4:30am I am fast asleep, and at 1pm I am in school
I am not sure whats worse for a hyena, being attacked by Lions or being attacked by other hyenas as both look just as brutal esp as hyenas target spine & ears, its poor foot looks like its been in a shredder but hyenas are extraordinarily resilient creatures, they can come back from things that would of just annihilated any other animal.
I can only hope this poor hyena manages to hang in there & survives to recover back to normal as much as it possibly can, when it comes to hyenas such a thing is not unrealistic, they are tough survivors as this video shows ruclips.net/video/44CNcw8_0HI/видео.html - Both ears missing and only 2 front legs working yet still survives, so we can all hope this hyena can do the same.

That was very hard to watch. Poor Hyena I wonder what will happen to it.

That's a shame. But that's life in the wild the strong must go on and the weak must die. And there must be sacrifices for the middle to evolve..

Looking at the wounds of the others, more than likely there was a territorial dispute and the one that is really badly hurt got mistaken for a stranger(??)
I say this for if it was a stranger then it's young would have been attacked as well and more than likely, it also would have been killed.
And I do hope that it recovers quickly!

That’s not a different clan.....that’s how hyenas treat each other, bullied from birth, always the threat of violence. Unlike other animal fights, these brutal beat downs by hyenas go completely undefended by the victim. Think about that. _The victim never, under any circumstances, defends herself. She has to take it until the bully is finished._ There’s just the constant potential insensate violence, 24/7. I have no idea why guides think it always must be a rival clan, when intra-clan attacks are much more common. Disgusting animals.
will they fix tthe foot cause otherwise it cant run or hunt, some of the rules are not fair, to the animals they keep there.
These animals aren't "kept" they are wild. It's the policy of the drives to not help unless the injury was caused by humans.
@@SuzHar yes they never help but they sure like the money that comes into their greedy hands. Dont give me that you can't interfere you dont want to thats the difference. Others take care of their animals
