All that Whitney "Whitey" Houston BS was so ironic (and stupid) because by focussing on songs that had universal appeal, she became arguably the first black female artist to completely transcend the race barrier. By doing so, opened the doors for so many others that followed her. She was actually doing black musicians a service, not a disservice, by breaking down those boundaries and making black artists truly mainstream in the US. And anyway, she DID go on to make dedicated RnB and Gospel records later. 'Tis sad when people would rather obsess over race than the quality of the work. But hey, whats new... 😖
BOTH of those ladies were given so much grief. And, had the industry not kept them distracted with so much unnecessary stress, perhaps they would have both had better focus, and been able to avoid toxic relationships. 2 of the greatest singers, of all time, no doubt. I am SO glad that they didn't let themselves be dragged into the madness of some media-made rivalry. Re-watching some of those interviews, one would imagine that, had they maintained their closeness, and contact, that Whitney would likely still be alive, and they both would have had healthier connections: True friends help us cut through the clutter, know our worth, and not tolerate people, situations or behaviors that detract from our value, rather than enhancing or adding to it. I pray that Whitney Houston is at peace, and that if she was murdered, the truth comes out. And, I pray that Mariah Carey has a genuine support system of friends, leads a happy, healthy life, and that her talent remains, for as long as she chooses to use it. I wish that we all had the benefit of more collaborations between the two of them.

Why did they have someone that looked like Brandy playing the role of Whitney Houston? Soo odd. Brandy doesnt even look like Whitney. Whitney's Voice was Out of this world. Strong and powerful. I heard Whitney's voice when I was 10 yo and Mariah's when I was 12 yo. I will never forget those moments. I genuinly thought Mariah had 2 sets of lungs.
Both Mariah and Whitney both once in a lifetime singers & vocalists. I bought recordings by both. I have great taste. "Vision of Love" is my favorite Mariah record.
