I love our Berkey. Hands down one of the best purchases we've made. I built a stand next to our cabinet and ran plumbing through the cabinet and have a pot filler faucet on the side of the cabinet. SO nice.
Our Berkey is being delivered today. I have your videos saved so I can some back and follow your tutorials for priming and set up. Thank you for those! You make it look easy. Im also so grateful to have found your sourdough started videos, too!! Binging all the Farmhouse on Boone videos!!
Would not recommend Berkey to anyone who does not want to keep up with maintenance. The bottom chamber builds up bacteria very fast and needs to be cleaned quite often, specifically, every 2-3 days. Also, when testing the water, I found that Berkey Water is high in alkaline and in fluoride... I even had the fluoride filters and after using testing strips, the water had a high concentration in fluoride.
To go through 6,000 gallons in one year equates to 16 gallons used every day. I replace filter every 3-4 years using about 5 gallons per day. Great economics.
Thank you for this review! I just purchased mine last night! I've had an under sink RO system for about 20+ years! But the company I used to help install, maintain and replace parts, went out of business. I am not handy AT ALL and especially do not want to mess with plumbing. I could purchase another system and then hire a plumber to install it but that would cost me about $600 or more and the pain of having to replace the filters every year. I live in an apartment and the whole house filtration system does not really apply. I was miserable having to get gallons of water at Whole Foods every 3 days! Then someone at my acupuncture doctor's office mentioned the Berkey and suddenly I remembered that a Certified Holistic Healing Coach I worked with years ago had actually recommended it. So I cleared some space on my kitchen counter and am eagerly awaiting its arrival! I think it will look stunning on my grey & white granite counter with the back drop of my white shaker cabinets and greyish walls! ;-) Research shows that RO water is not the best as it can leach minerals from your body. So now I am actually happy my RO system broke! Everything happens for a reason! Lol! This video just solidified my excitement and reassured me that I made the right decision! I ordered the Travel Berkey & Fluoride Bundle that is currently on sale! They also have Scratch & Dent sales but those were sold out! Cheers and Happy Hydrating to all ;-) xoxox
Thanks for the nice review. Retired single guy and I just order the next size smaller. Time to move away from the Brita and ZeroWater pitchers in the refrigerator
After researching water filtration systems for the past 2 years, drinking water from the one my mom has (she was gifted it by my sister a year ago) I ordered mine today.
We love our Berkey too! We've had it for 5 years and we've only replaced the filters 1 time so far! Ours sits on the counter too but honestly I don't even notice it that much anymore, it's just part of our kitchen!!
Been wanting one of these for years, my husband finally gave the go ahead last week, but they were sold out. I watched and watched and finally was able to order one today! Great video, thank you for helping me feel confident in my investment!
@bsharrardI know what you mean, I've been drinking filtered water for 14 years+, but I don't enjoy hauling 5 gallon jugs around every week. My Mom's water station closed where she lives and she is having to buy bottles of water until her Berkey arrives. The water in my mom's town has radon. I don't know how people are still drinking tap, when I go to a restaurant and they give me tap water, I always know because it tastes horrible. I actually grew up on tap water, but I lived in the mountains and whenever we went to the valley to visit my grandparents they never had enough bottled water and the tap water was so disgusting I would always get dihydrogen because I didn't want to drink their water
I purchased the Royal as it was the only one in stock here in Canada.. was waiting literally months for a replenish.. glad to hear I made the right choice of size. We typically go through 4L of water a day just with drinking so this is perfect now can use it for Cooking as well.
I’m working so hard to keep my countertops clear, and it kinda just doesn’t fit the aesthetic. It would be nice if it were brushed stainless. I don’t even keep my Kitchenaid or my air fryer out. So I just might try keeping it in the laundry room since it’s so close to the kitchen. It’ll be behind a door though, so I’ll see how that works. Thanks for sharing so much about owning a Berkey. I finally ordered one today.
Nice and informative video. I love the way you edited out any 'uh, um, uh' sound we hear on most vids. Clean and to the point with not a lot of self congratulatory BS. Keep it tight and crisp. Nice job!
We have a Berkey with flouride filters but I fall out of habit using it because how awkward it is in my kitchen. You're inspiring me to get over it and just use it!
We purchased a stand from Crystal Springs bottled water seller. Since it's the #1 most important part of the kitchen (and house) it deserves what little real estate it takes up
We bought the same Berkey with fluoride filters almost 2 years ago. Our water was terrible where we were living at the time. You could smell the chlorine. Horrible. But Wow what a difference this filter made. Best purchase we've ever made.
I am considering this as an addition to my home...and you definitely answered my questions about why I should consider one and what the benefits of having a Berkey system would be.
it's a great value - I think one has to think ahead a bit during these times and maybe purchase a few extra sets of the filters if you can.. since there is no compatible 3rd party filters
We looked into getting one of these, but we are on a well, so for us the most important thing was something that could remove all the lime from the water that was damaging our appliances. So for us, we went with the Culligan whole house filter and softener with a reverse osmosis system under the sink for drinking water. Being on a well and outside city limits I had fewer concerns about additives to the water like fluroride. But if we ever moved somewhere where we weren't on a well, I would absolutely have one of these.
Wells can have plenty of contaminants. Watch the movie "Erin Brockvich". The same poison (I think it called "Hexavalent Chlorine", but don't quote me on that) in that movie is now in the water in Midland, TX. It's caused by all the oil drilling (and fracking?) done out in that area. You might also watch "Dark Waters" starring Mark Ruffalo. That showed how DuPont poisoned literally every living thing on the planet with the poison from Teflon. The people who lived near the factory took the worst hit. It was in their ground water. So, don't be thinking that well water is safe. It is infinitely more "unknown" than city water, simply because nobody is testing it before it reaches you.
We love our Berkey. We have the Royal as well. The main reason we purchased it was to filter out fluoride (among other things). We've had ours about a year now. It's wonderful!
I have a 2.25 Berkey and didn't want to spend $50 for a stand. I found a strong 2 gallon plastic bucket (white) at Home Depot for $5. The Berkey fits exactly within the rim of the lid and holds the Berkey about 8 inches off the counter for easy of filling your glass/cup/pan. Strong enough for my Berkey but if you have a bigger one, you'll need to do your own testing. Happy filtering.
Grew up in the Country so we had amazing well water all my life.. now living in a municipality - was going to get reverse osmosis...but understanding the importance of minerals in water.. I let that idea go - there is some chlorine but no flouride in this town - one bad halogen makes it a bit easier to deal with. Distilled water is great but in moderation and for specific things. Nice presentation thank you.
Just recently bought a Berkey. You definitely were part of the inspiration for this great investment. Thank you for sharing a more thorough video on it. Love all of your videos, Lisa!
Well i'm a little disappointed because somebody in a thread higher up said it does NOT DO a very good job getting rid of FLUORIDE. There was one on the Annette Larkins channel ... she looks about 30 years younger because she eats right and for a long time has been drinking water that has the CHLORINE and FLUORIDE and other things FILTERED OUT . In the vid she actually shows you a thick crust of this white material that she says is the chlorine , fluoride and other chemicals that would otherwise be GOING INTO your BLOODSTREAM , your BONES , and your BRAIN , etc . but the water filter she had in her kitchen was big , square and clunky looking . i guess i'm going to have to hope they have something smaller .
Attention people who’s Berkey does not filter or filters super slow... make sure that there is no water on the lip between the upper and lower chambers. Water here creates an airtight seal which creating pressure in the bottom chamber which prevents the upper chamber from draining. If I get water here I usually put the top chamber off kilter to allow air passage until the lip is dry. This may not solve all slow filter issues but it solved mine. Also, buy the next size up!
A great update to the design would be a 1/2" sleeve attached to the top chamber that overlapped the bottom chamber when assembled. If you use a Berkey with contaminated water outside, there is a good chance you may spill a little when filling the top chamber. As this runs down the outside of the unit the unfiltered water collects in the upward facing joint between the top and bottom creating the distinct possibility that whatever bad stuff is in the unfiltered water could seep in and contaminate your "clean" water. The sleeve would direct any spills over the joint eliminating this problem. Currently, I recommend covering the joint with painter's tape in the field. If blocks the ingress of unfiltered water and easily peels off without leaving any residue.
Thank you so much for this amazing review! I had heard of Berkey, but thought I'd do some research online, which quickly turned into a scary rabbit hole. I'm so glad I found your review, which sealed the deal and I just placed my order! (I used your link). Thanks again for your amazing review, you really covered it all!
We bought a kitchen cart to hold ours. It's just not near the sink/water supply, which is a PITA. We have thought about putting in a water spiket over it to fill it up...kinda like the ones people put over the stove to fill water pots, but it would probably cost a lot of money. We just all take turns filling it up. I use it for everything...cooking, coffee, tea, drinking...so we use a lot of water. Love it though.
Love ours. We have one on our coffee bar in the kitchen and one in our bedroom (for beside carafes refills....evening herb tea...and our upstairs coffee maker). We also use the fluoride filters with both. We can plow through some water! We also use the Berkey shower filter. Thankful for them...so very thankful! 💕
Farmhouse on Boone it’s so stinkin’ cheap for a year’s worth of clean showers. Hope you can get ‘er done soon!! 💕 Your blog is so sweet, kind and informative.
@robin inVA - do you find the shower filter restricts water flow at all? I love the idea of filtering our crud water but don't want to sacrifice good water flow either.
Great video! You may raise the Berkey with a marble block or something similar and rotate it so the spigot is right over the sink. That way your kids will have to use a cup and not their open mouths. Also, it minimizes wiping up the water on the floor and/or counter.
@@sandragray4598 : Kids will be kids. Eventually the spilled water will either evaporate or they will be crawling on the floor and wipe it up with their clothes, unless they pull the whole thing down on the floor, but that's funny. 🤔😉😁😂😂😂
@@Allin1mom just me,, i use it [ water ] for cooking and drinking, mine is 2 gallon size and i fill it twice sometimes three times a day, be safe, be strong, be free, be blessed
I agree with @Renzpenz. Really wanting to clean the black filters. Prob could Google but would rather see how you do it as you’ve had yours for years. Thank you Lisa😊
It's really easy to clean the sediment off of the outside of the black purification elements. Remove the element by unscrewing a nut. Rinse under tap water and scrub a bit with a "green scrubbie" or something similar. Put it back together. Test with a few drops of RED food coloring. Done. (I sell them on a very casual basis)
Thanx for this review on Berkey, Lisa. I've been looking forward to your review since you mentioned it on an earlier video. I had already been researching Berkey for a few weeks, and decided to wait for your review to add to my research. I've decided a Berkey needs to be added to our kitchen as well. Love your videos Lisa. Great job!
Hi Thank you for the video, quick question for you, if you fill it too full does it spell over at the joining point, wondering if you can always keep the top full portion full while the filtered water portion is full as well? Thanks
That's great that you are happy with the purchase of your Berkey system. And, I am sure it will remove some of the big stuff in your water. The problem is that there is a lot more in our water that the Berkey can't remove. TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) is everything in our water that is not water. The EPA's max contamination level that they allow a water board to give their customers is 500 parts per million. In Las Vegas, our TDS level is almost always around 480-490. That's why our water has been ranked 3rd worst water in the nation. I have recently tested a Berkey system for it's TDS count. Our tap water was at 487. The Berkey water was at 475. It is doing nothing for the quality of your water. There simply is no better water purification system than a reverse osmosis. The membrane of a reverse osmosis system removes 95% of everything in the water, dropping the TDS level to 20-30 parts to million. Making it ideal drinking water. It's great that you like your Berkey, just know it's really not doing much for you as far as water quality.
Jason C Do you know if a simple Brita filter would remove or reduce TDS? Have lead levels ever been detected with a Berkey? In other words, do the filters contain lead which escape into one’s drinking water?
@@uslee19 First...a Brita filter will do nothing for the TDS. A Brita filter is nothing more than a carbon filter. The same kind of filter that is in your fridge. I will give Brita one thing. They market themselves very well. Whenever someone says Brita, you know what they are talking about. But, no...it does nothing for the TDS. The only filter that will affect the TDS in your water is the semi-permeable membrane in a reverse osmosis system. In essence, the membrane is squeezing the water so the good water passes through and the bad water is pushed out and goes to the sewer. Second...I really can't speak on the filters of the Berkey and lead levels it may or may not produce. I know there is a lot of lead in the water in places like Flint. But, there really isn't much or any lead in the water in Vegas. Although, seeing that the Berkey has no effect on the TDS levels of the water being filtered through it, you can probably come to the conclusion that there is zero effect on any lead that the water you put in the Berkey is being taken out. I hope that answered your question.
Perfect timing for this review! I have been wanting one of these for years and the other day I mentioned it to my hubby...we shall see if we get one soon😉 noticed your Dr. Bronner's by the sink...do you use as dish soap? We love Dr. Bronner's! Our favorite scent is almond Would love to see the non toxic cleaning products you use...Blessings, Rosalie

I use my Berkey in the garage and fill it with a plastic bucket when needed. I empty the Berkey into a 5 gallon water container that I use in my water cooler dispenser in the kitchen corner. Easy Peasy, a little messy when putting a filled bottle in the cooler but just a litlte water to wipe up. It is pretty easy to keep track of the number of 5 gallon containers you use.
Love our berkey! We prob have it for about 5 years. My kids won’t even drink water at restaurants cause they can taste the difference. We have the biggest one and we go through it daily since my husband use 3 stainless bottles that he fills to take to work and kids and I do the same when we go out and about.
Wow! The biggest one is six gallons! That sounds like a lot of water, yet, come to think of it, we are two people and one pet and routinely go through 2.9 gallons per day on average. We, too, take our own water when we leave our home "campsite." We use Berkey water for ev-ree-thing including final rinse for veggies, teeth-brushing, ice, and ALL kitchen water needs (except washing dishes - lol). (Disclosure: I sell Black Berkeys and am a primary care physician, research scientist and water expert)
So Lisa, do you have Well water coming directly to all the faucets in your home and fill the Berkeley from the faucet for drinking only? The reason I ask is bc we have good quality city water but there is also a well that was here when we moved in. We only use the Well water for the lawn & garden but I’m thinking with the current situation in our world today it might be a good idea to be able to filter our Well water for drinking in an emergency.
I have a water distiller because I understood it produced the best water, but the cost of using it, i.e. electricity used, has made it impossible for me - it's in the back of the cupboard now ! I will consider a Berkey now.
Thank you for this video! I am curious if it matters that on refilling the water that there is still some residual water in both the top and bottom containers. Would it make sense every once in a while to dump that out so that there is no accumulated "stale" water?
I was just unpacking my new Berkey and your RUclips popped up! Fortuitous or scary!?! Thanks for the tips - I did a lot of research too, and decided this is it.
It disturbs me when i read numerous claims about anything. It filters viruses?? I would love independent testing. 4 years between filters? I think my city does theirs every day. Generally perfection claims could be true, but .. Why didn't all the other companies try to get the principle? I wish I believe every claim and i might be losing out but it sounds too much like those miracle plastic film that i can build a boat from. Late night TV meets long distance retail?
I L.O.V.E. our Berkey!!! I actually removed an upper cupboard door and the Berkey fits in the space perfectly with room above it to easily add water. Our cupboards are Grand Piano Black, so the shiny Berkey stands out quite attractively😊
Berkley needs to sponsor a giveaway for you and also stock your filters up!! I am now considering this... I may have to save up for this system. Thanks for sharing. Berkley get with it!!
What do you do for ice cubes? We have an Alexa Pure Pro, which is similar to the Berkey, and we have to make our own cubes in trays. It’s time consuming and a bit annoying, but we want filtered ice cubes.
Thanks for the review. We got our Berkey in the summer as I wanted cleaner water before becoming pregnant again. I thought I was loving it and even encouraged some family members to buy it but now I'm reading lots about the flouride filters adding aluminum to the water. Does anyone have any info about this? Others have stated that its very difficult to get a clear answer from Berkey re: these concerns. Thanks
I have an odd question. Can I put in dish water (water I've used after washing the dishes) or shower water (water I save after I shower) into the Berkey filter? Will it filter those types of water? Thanks
The Berkey instructions we got said you can use this system with stream water - they said the clearer the better. Dish water isn't stream water, but the soap residue may cause more buildup, so you may have to wash the basins more often than once a month (like the company recommends on its instructions).
Thanks so much for your in depth review. I needed this will be amazing purchase soon. PS - they should acknowledge you w/a future coupon code for customers purchases.
I definitely need to investigate this. We have a well so ours tastes great, but I would still like to filter it. Our daughter now lives in a town with city water and hates to drink water since she can taste the chlorine.
My mom (in the sticks, near Seattle) has the best well water I've ever tasted. She uses a Black Berkey because there really is no longer any such thing as clean groundwater, anywhere. [disclosure: I sell 'em]
Two positive points for the Berkey Water Filter is it's highly portable for reasons known or unknown that you need to leave you can bring that with you and probably just as important is the fact that it works when the power goes out so that is two super big pluses for the Berkey
Thank you for sharing this; I am going to purchase this since you said that it can even filter out pathogens. We have been enjoying your muffin bread and sourdough tortillas; love everything you make. 💕
I bought the Crown and will refrigerate the gallons. How sanitary is it to leave the container empty for a few days as we replenish water as we need it 🤔?
Love the video. I was actually looking into this Berkey water filter myself. Went through several reviews on wirecutter, healthy kitchen 101, etc. but I was still not 100% sure, until now. Can’t imagine I’d find a better one. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I have several questions as this was just referred to me, cause buying water was getting expensive. Is the water cold? What about washing your hands, face,,brushing teeth, showering? Making ice? Cooking? Sending bottles to school for the kids? Only thing I see here is it only filters what 2 gallons you pour into it.
Hi Lisa, thanks for your video! HELP...I'm having a difficult time deciding on the size to purchase. I can't decide between the Big and Royal. Based on your experience after having it for some time, what would you recommend for a family of four adults. We drink primarily water in our home. We also plan on using the filtered water for cooking (maybe even wash our produce with it) AND storing at least one gallon of filtered water in the refrigerator for drinking. Counter space is limited, although if needed, we would find a way to accommodate the bigger system. Your feedback is greatly appreciated! xo
We LOVE our Berkey! You didn't mention how it leaves in all of the great minerals and doesn't filter them out. So important so you don't have to add back minerals to your water.
Minerals in the water are actually bad for human consumption. A human can only synthesis organic minerals and not inorganic minerals. Having inorganic mineral in the water is actually harmful to a human.
Question: Do you know what happens if we screw in the Fluoride Filter more than 8 revolutions? Without markings on the filter itself, how do you know how many revolutions you’ve done? Can you reverse the revolutions if you accidentally go to far?
I have wanted one of these since I first heard her talk about it a good while ago. So I decided to look into it. I always check BBB first. So because they had 12 complaints in the past year which were resolved I will not order one.
Did you use the link she has on this video? For some reason I'm finding a couple of different berkey websites and am not sure which I should order from.
My 10 year old son, Koda Karula, is allergic to fluoride. I spend a lot of time lugging water from the place that filters it out. I'm saving for a Berkey!
Yeah , but i just read a comment in a higher-up up thread where a guy says it DOESN'T do a good job filtering out FLUORIDE ... that to me is really BAD news as the main reason i want a water filter is to get rid of fluoride . If you go to the channel of Annette Larkins ... she used to have a video that showed her water filter which got rid of the fluoride and chlorine and other things . i didn't like the way it looked because it was a big Square clunky thing ... but if you look on her channel you'll see it and this woman looks about 30 years younger than her real age and aside from eating really healthy she swears it's also because there's no chlorine and fluoride in her water . In her vid she actually shows you this thick white hard material that was filtered out of the water and she explains if you didn't filter it out , that junk would be going into your blood and bones , poisoning them .
Researching which size is best for us. You mentioned how you’re a family of 4, and this size works for you... I am wondering if you also use it for cooking?
We are an active family of 2 and purchased this size in Nov. 2019. Have had it for 4 months and finding this size perfect. We also use for all cooking/coffee/tea/mix concentrated cleaners, etc. and keep several bottles in the fridge for those who want cold drinking water. Fridge water is stored in the Boroux Basics glass bottles, also available from Berkey. Final suggestion, we added the glass viewing spicket so that we do not have to lift up the top container to see how much water is in the bottom. This is extremely helpful to avoid running out and/or overfilling.
Do the regular Berkeys and black filters leak the Aluminum Oxide into water too, or just the special, white fluoride filters? I'm thinking I could just not buy these add-ons, if they're the risky/problematic piece
We are thinking of getting a Royal Berkey System, but it's just the two of us and I'm wondering if it might be too much. We go through a lot of water; filling the Keurig, also, making green juices & teas, daily, big batches of soups weekly, and for general cooking. Would we be better off getting a Big or Royal?
We just have the big, and it's perfect for our family. I just saw Berkey is running an amazing Black Friday deal: www.berkeyfilters.com/big-berkey-black-friday-cyber-monday-bundle-2018.html?a_aid=5b2cf1884101a&a_bid=132d8b21
Hi, just came across your channel and love it! We actually have the same exactly Berkey and have had for 5 years and love it. Just wanted to share with because I dont have much counter space and do to it being so tall it wouldn't fit either way, so what I did was I found at a garage sale the old stands for those glass water holders that the blue plastic water jugs sit on and I repainted to match my kitchen and the Berkey fits perfectly on it!
So cool you shared that! I was gonna ask the size of the one she has for the same reason, I actually have one of those stand and use the bottled water! So I see it can fit, now I have to decide if I can afford one.

It's wonderful!
hi have you tested the water ?
Very informative !! My hubby got one and Im learning about it watching your video . Thanks
thanks for this video! what do you use for your shower/bath water? what water do you use for your garden? do you collect rain water?
We just use tap for all that, but I'm thinking about getting the Berkey shower filter now that everyone has mentioned it!
I actually like how it looks
Same. I like it, too.
Same and I don't own one. But soon will.
Me too!! I want one
Just recently bought a Berkey. You definitely were part of the inspiration for this great investment. Thank you for sharing a more thorough video on it.
Love all of your videos, Lisa!
hi have you tested the water ?
jethro hendrix what do you test it for? What type of test do I need to do?
Perfect presentation. You clearly know your stuff. Definitely want a Berkey!
They have a clip for that problem now, that will stop that from happening..
I love our Berkey water filter, and we built a wooden corner shelf for it.
That is such a great idea!
I really need to look into getting that shower filter!
Farmhouse on Boone it’s so stinkin’ cheap for a year’s worth of clean showers. Hope you can get ‘er done soon!! 💕 Your blog is so sweet, kind and informative.
Thanks Robin! I am definitely going to get it. :)
Didn't know there was a shower filter....🤩
@robin inVA - do you find the shower filter restricts water flow at all? I love the idea of filtering our crud water but don't want to sacrifice good water flow either.
We just bought one, too. So glad to not have cases of water taking up space, and the waste.
Great video! You may raise the Berkey with a marble block or something similar and rotate it so the spigot is right over the sink. That way your kids will have to use a cup and not their open mouths. Also, it minimizes wiping up the water on the floor and/or counter.
Why take all the fun out of being a child!? Lol.. (^_-)
@@sandragray4598 : Kids will be kids. Eventually the spilled water will either evaporate or they will be crawling on the floor and wipe it up with their clothes, unless they pull the whole thing down on the floor, but that's funny. 🤔😉😁😂😂😂
i had mine for three years now, i,ll never go without one again, just wish i had bought the biggest one as i fill mine bout two times a day
The Crown?...How big is your family and how do you use it?
@@Allin1mom just me,, i use it [ water ] for cooking and drinking, mine is 2 gallon size and i fill it twice sometimes three times a day, be safe, be strong, be free, be blessed
Very informative. Can you do how do I clean Berkey/change the filter video? Thank you.
Sounds like I need to make more Berkey videos!
Yes ma'am!
Thanks
We love love our Berkey. Hands down...the very best. Love the fluoride filters too.😊
I’m thinking about buying one. Thank you for your thorough review!
No problem 👍
We have one as well, and love it. Two days ordered Berkey shower filters for our bathrooms.
Jason C Thank you.
Yes! I use it for cleaning, for dishes and everything in between. Love it!
@@FarmhouseonBoone Dr. Bronner's granddaughter runs a fabulous website and RUclips channel teaching us all the wonderful things we can do with Dr. Bronner's soap. It's just a total delight and a true treasure trove of much needed info. Her website: lisabronner.com Her RUclips: Lisa Bronner. I fell utterly in love with all her great advice. She even provides useful cheat sheets to help keep track of the many tricks that soap can do as well as the recipes for the formulas! Way to go Lisa Bronner!
Be careful with Bronners the company is getting sneaky and adding some questionable ingredients.
Thinking of making this buy, how do you keep track of the gallons you use so you know when you need to change them?
The Sweet Stitcher buy the machine in which gallon you need you can’t change the gallon unless you buy a new different berky
We, too, take our own water when we leave our home "campsite."
We use Berkey water for ev-ree-thing including final rinse for veggies, teeth-brushing, ice, and ALL kitchen water needs (except washing dishes - lol). (Disclosure: I sell Black Berkeys and am a primary care physician, research scientist and water expert)
Hi, like you video. question - are you able to keep it topped up on top or will it spill out if there is no more room on the bottom to take water
Great video, just bought a Berkey. very informative.
When filling up the Berkey to the top on a regular basis, how can we ensure that it won't overflow somewhere? Thank you for your great videos.
was scrolling for this question, sad to see no one has answered...
I would assume you would check the bottom container and not fill the top until the bottom filtered container is an inch or 2 from the bottom.
Thanks for making this video. You explained everything very well. I've been looking into a Berkey for a while, but my husband is not convinced.
It disturbs me when i read numerous claims about anything. It filters viruses?? I would love independent testing.
4 years between filters? I think my city does theirs every day. Generally perfection claims could be true, but .. Why didn't all the other companies try to get the principle? I wish I believe every claim and i might be losing out but it sounds too much like those miracle
plastic film that i can build a boat from.
That's perfect!
That sounds awesome. Would love to see a pic. Someone posted a comment how he did same and added a water line or pot filler or something. 🙂
Berkley needs to sponsor a giveaway for you and also stock your filters up!! I am now considering this... I may have to save up for this system. Thanks for sharing. Berkley get with it!!
Silver Shandiin hmmm I should ask them about that!
What do you do for ice cubes? We have an Alexa Pure Pro, which is similar to the Berkey, and we have to make our own cubes in trays. It’s time consuming and a bit annoying, but we want filtered ice cubes.
Michelle Kane we hardly ever do ice cubes, but we went to we just put it in ice cube trays.
We love our Berkie! We also take it in our RV which is the original reason for buying one! Great review!!
Hello there, thank you for the information. I do have one question though. Does it filter out micro plastics?
I love my Berkey too...was thinking about putting in a float valve hooked up to a tap, so it self fills.
Good idea!
hi have you tested the water ?
Mine arrived today! Thanks for your review. I'm prepping for off grid living on the road. 👍
Nice!
Thank you for a wonderful demonstration and review. One of the best.
Thanks
We ordered our Berkey a month ago--still waiting on it to arrive. I can’t wait!
Great review. Thank you very much. I put the berkey waterfilter on my wishlist. Subscribed because you are awesome!
I've the same one! We research too and we found that is the best! Working for my family! Husband, me and my dog! :)
It's a water filter...not a miracle worker.
Thanks so much for your in depth review. I needed this will be amazing purchase soon.
PS - they should acknowledge you w/a future coupon code for customers purchases.
When are you supposed to do the food test dye on the filters? Do we do this in the beginning or down the road?
I definitely need to investigate this. We have a well so ours tastes great, but I would still like to filter it. Our daughter now lives in a town with city water and hates to drink water since she can taste the chlorine.
This has an amazing taste!
We also have well water but we have some lime and this keeps it out.
So glad you're loving your sourdough! Berkey water is perfect to feed it too.
How about if it would have a small stand in order to fill a cup or gallon would be nice thanks for the info on the filter
That would be cool
Thanks. They're out of stock but I hope they'll have more soon. Thanks for posting this.
Yikes. They are still out of stock. I hope they don’t stop making them. I would like to buy one too
I bought the Crown and will refrigerate the gallons.
How often should you replace the fluoride and arsenic filters?
once a year
Hi Lisa, thanks for your video! Your feedback is greatly appreciated! xo
Sounds like you'd be better with the Royal. We are a family of only two now and I have just ordered the big Burkey.
Can't wait to get it !
Dalkeith Jumper thank you for your response! I ended up purchasing the Royal.👍
@@ginac4388 yah! I'm sure you'll be glad you did !!
We LOVE our Berkey! You didn't mention how it leaves in all of the great minerals and doesn't filter them out. So important so you don't have to add back minerals to your water.
Kelly Tressler forgot to mention that! I knew I would forget some things. I’ll add that to the blog post!
Minerals in the water are actually bad for human consumption. A human can only synthesis organic minerals and not inorganic minerals. Having inorganic mineral in the water is actually harmful to a human.
hi have you tested the water ?
@@tazzess You are 100% CORRECT no point in having a filter that does not filter they need a water distiller
@@tazzess what about sodium chloride?
Question: Do you know what happens if we screw in the Fluoride Filter more than 8 revolutions? Without markings on the filter itself, how do you know how many revolutions you’ve done? Can you reverse the revolutions if you accidentally go to far?
Yeah, I did that once, everything seems okay but I wonder...🤔
I have wanted one of these since I first heard her talk about it a good while ago. So I decided to look into it. I always check BBB first. So because they had 12 complaints in the past year which were resolved I will not order one.
Just got mine today, Your video helped me get it faster!! So excited ❤️
@@gardensofthegods You have to get the fluoride filters to go with it. Mine has that white hard material that's filtered out.
Thank you so much for this. I have been looking for a water filter.
Do you filter your bath water? Shower? Getting a berkey as soon as I can! Thanks for sharing 😊
We don't, but I am thinking about getting the Berkey shower head.
Do you know if the plastic spigot is BPA free? Seems counterproductive to filter the water and then have it come into contact with plastics
Chris Burke it isn’t but they do also sell a stainless spigot.
Researching which size is best for us. You mentioned how you’re a family of 4, and this size works for you... I am wondering if you also use it for cooking?
we really use it for everything!
Love this video! You did such a great job and btw, it looks great on your counter!
How often you clean your filters?.. thank you very much.💕
