    2017 Titan SV Crew Cab with 42k miles, towing my 6,300 lb trailer on I-75, RPMs shot up then dropped and into limp mode, 40 mph max. Low gears and reverse worked, but not higher gears. 500 miles from home, dealer "diagnosed", new transmission needed, $8,440, and that was for a remanufactured. My 2005 Titan was great, 240k almost trouble-free miles before I sold it. Thought I was a Nissan owner for life, but I'm done with Nissan now ... will be selling before the replacement transmission's 12-month / 12k-mile warranty ends.

  • @ubangiestomp
    @ubangiestomp Год назад +12

    Has the truck taken a big hit? From the looks of the cab on the passenger side it looks like the bed has been driven into the back of the cab at one point. If so I'm thinking that the fuel pump may be the cause of this and may need replaced. That's my guess from the cab damage. Hope you get this figured out because its a nice truck.

    • @btbuildthings
      @btbuildthings  Год назад +3

      The truck took a hit on the passenger rear. The gas tank is on the drivers side. The hit shouldn't have had any impact on the current issues that I am seeing but I did order a fuel pump since they seem to go bad anyways. Based on the codes I got, seems like there is a short in the CAN bus which I am trying to troubleshoot now. With so many people having issues in this arena, seems like either a design flaw or low quality sourced parts. But I am hoping to get to the bottom of this because as you said, it is a nice truck.

      @@btbuildthings Its a safety fuel cutoff for incase of an accident, for lack of a better term. But I've heard of people having that issue like yours and thought that might be the issue. Got one. Bottom line this is an issue truck. Some are lucky and some unlucky. Bottom line Nissan and Cummins have dissolved there relationship for good reason. Niether will warrant or recall design flaws most manufacturers don’t. If they had of just replaced the fuel pump and egr and def at there cost and not and marketed as a 1500 than they be top of the game now discontinued parts will be available through Nissan for only ten years than the rest if left over will as normal be sold off so parts will become scarce and expensive eventually. It’s allready costly and time sensitive in the end sad enough if you by used make sure these issues have been addressed or your just buying a 30,000 dollar paper weight

    I have a 2017 that I bought brand new. It’s been very problematic. A truck for $58K should be better than this. I just hit 80K miles and all 8 injectors burned up. Luckily the factory warranty covers it (for another 10 months anyway). There are just too many issues to list but here’s a few… alternator, the 7speed tranny slips when pulling, the terrible fuel mileage, etc. I had an F150 eco boost before this truck, I should’ve stuck with it. That 6 cylinder would out pull this 5.6L any day. Lesson learned.

It could be your key fob and or the pick for the key fob in the truck. Try driving around with the fob in the center console and see if it continues to shutoff.

      @btbuildthings  Год назад +2

      Wow, look like you made out good with your 2 Titans. After multiple tests, I have concluded that one issue I have with trouble starting and heavy acceleration hesitation may be caused by a failing high pressure fuel pump. Basically same problem where it would cut off while driving or wouldn't even start. I ended up figuring it out that the pins in the engine bay fuse box were not making good contact. I ordered a new fuse box for the engine bay and Im getting it installed by a reputable shop locally for around 200. Ford wouldn't give me my money back for false diagnosis nor the dealer service center.

    Noticed the damage on rear of cab and I am wondering did you buy with a salvage title? If so, man you could be chasing down all kinds of gremlins and that's going to be more representative of buying a salvage title than buying a 2019 Titan.

      Yes, this was a salvage truck and you're right, it can be a rabbit hole trying to find the issue. Luckily for me, when I got it, I had no issues at all other than the damage. Once I get the truck back from the shop, I will be able to install the new ECU which I'm almost 100% positive will resolve my current issue.

      I am looking at 2024s. I was thinking that same thing. Why is there zero protection on the wiring distribution plug in that harness. It is wide open on the frame. Seems very bad. Water,mud ,rocks can go directly into that harness plug. My 2019 f-150 has a very well placed and protected harness on the frame. 🤔

    So the problem with the truck shutting off is a solenoid on the gear shifter. Happened on my NV 3500 HD SL. Cost me $800 to fix but it’s been super reliable. I have 150,000 on it and it’s only been in the shop once. For future reference the starter is under the engine manifold. It’s also an expensive fix. Just changed mine at the 150,000 mile mark. I was driving at 75 mph when it shut off and then shut back on. My mechanic put a new gear shifter on as the solenoid went bad causing the truck to think it was in park while driving so it shut off as a weird safety mechanism.

I would check fuel pressure and use a scan tool while driving to see if something is cutting out, if its the ECU, you might lose communication with the scan tool or one of the inputs, if its fuel pressure, you will see it on the gauge. #employee

      Sorry but not like Ford, their quality is garbage and has gone down hill for over 2 decades. Ive owned more cars and trucks then people could image and my Explorer had this issue and blew an engine at 65k miles...my 2012 Mustang GT had a blown engine..my Ford focus had trany problems and now my 2016 F150 has suspension problems.
      My Ram 1500 also had suspension issues and I'll not even comment on GM quality 🤣..

    Very odd, seems like a simple diagnostics should be able to find the issue. I have owned 2 xd cummins with only one issue related to an emmissions problem.
    The 2017 sv factory radio had issues with android auto as well as didnt like it if i plugged in an iphone while the android was in bluetooth. Swapped out the radio and fixed that, other than that no mechanical issues at all. I tow a 24ft car hauler with 6k# of sxs's. I upgraded one year ago to a low mileage platnium reservse cummins and only one issue was the soot sensor went out. Found new on for $260 shipped amd 15 minutes to change it. All and all because i do tow almost evry weekend these trucks are rock solid. I had a branew 2020 3.5l f150 crew with the 12.5k tow package. Although a nice truck, at 27k miles it was at the dealer with the cab off to fix a cam phaser issue. My buddy has a 2018 f150 and its on its third engine.

      I can confirm my 2017 sv had the same issue with the factory radio, found out it was android audio causing it. Another time, i have an iphone for work and personal phone is android, it caused a problem. However my 2019 xd i have now had a full year, no radio issues at all.

    I’ve had an 08 and now have a 2018 driven cross country all the way to San Francisco via Route 66 and back over 4k miles and never had this issue. Have been off roading over landing trail rides and have had 0 issues besides it’s gas thirsty. My 08 ran for 11yrs with minor wear and tear issues over 250k miles on it would still have it if my nephew didn’t crash it. I think you just happen to get one with a bug.

    I’ve never heard of anyone having this issue. I’ve owned two titans 2013 and 2021 and never had anything but regular maintenance. Also I’ve owned multiple NV 2500’s and same thing no issues. Over 300k on my 2021 now and not a hiccup. Hands down the most reliable trucks I’ve ever owned. Oh and my NV 2500’s get 100k on tire wear which is insane. Anyway could not disagree more with your assessment of these truck and will not be subscribing 😂
