  • Ringo Starr And His All Starr Band play the Beatles song "Octopus's Garden" live in concert at the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco, California on June 11, 2023. Octopus's Garden appeared on the Beatles' eleventh studio album, Abbey Road (1969). It was the second song Starr wrote for The Beatles--the first being "Don't Pass Me By" from The White Album--and the final Beatles song to feature him on lead vocals. The All Starr Band consists of Steve Lukather (guitar / bass), Colin Hay (guitar), Edgar Winter (keyboards / saxophone), Warren Ham (saxophone / flute / keyboards), Hamish Stuart (guitar / bass), and Gregg Bissonette (drums).
    ====================
    Octopus's Garden lyrics:
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus's garden in the shade
He'd let us in, knows where we've been
In his octopus's garden in the shade
I'd ask my friends to come and see
    An octopus's garden with me
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus's garden in the shade
We would be warm below the storm
In our little hide-a-way beneath the waves
Resting our head on the sea bed
In an octopus's garden near a cave
We would sing and dance around
Because we know we can't be found
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus's garden in the shade
    [Guitar Solo]
We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves (Lies beneath the ocean waves)
Oh, what joy for every girl and boy
Knowing they're happy and they're safe (Happy and they're safe)
We would be so happy, you and me
No one there to tell us what to do
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus's garden with you
In an octopus's garden with you
In an octopus's garden with you
Written by Richard Starkey a/k/a Ringo Starr

    Ringo Starr official bio:
Born Richard Starkey on July 7, 1940 “at a very young age” he knew from very early on what he wanted to do. “When I was 13, I only wanted to be a drummer,” remembers Ringo. Four years later, he joined the Eddie Clayton Skiffle Band, and in 1959 hooked up with the Raving Texans, who later became Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. Just three years after that, Ringo was asked to join The Beatles. On August 18, 1962, Ringo Starr officially joined Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and George Harrison in what would become one of the most important popular music acts of all time, or as Ringo says, “the biggest band in the land.”
Throughout his career, Ringo Starr has received nine Grammy Awards and has twice been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame -- first as a Beatle and then as solo artist. Between 1970 and 2022, Ringo has released 20 solo studio records and 3 EP’s in 2020, 2021 and 2022. He has acted in over 15 films, received an Academy Award, and has been nominated as an actor for an Emmy. Ringo has published 8 books and had a stint as a male fashion model. In 2022 Ringo received an honorary degree as a Doctor of Music from Berklee College of Music. For all his many creative successes, Ringo is and always will be first and foremost a musician, a drummer. Ringo’s candor, wit and soul are the lifeblood of his music. Peace and love are his life’s rhythm and melody, and he propels this universal message in everything he does: his evocative artwork, his enthusiastic live performances, his legendary songs, all imbued with the joy, reflection, and wisdom of the music icon the world knows and loves simply as “Ringo.”

He sounds exactly same as he did in 1969. And he looks at least 40 years younger. At his 20s he looked at least 10 years older.

In fact he sounds better than he did in 1969 - in some mysterious way his singing voice seems to have improved during the decades.

@@Vinterfrid I don't think he really sounds better than on the recording to my ear, but it actually would make sense. Remember that in his Beatles days he only got limited vocal practice. They used him as a character lead vocal once an album, and sometimes had him contribute to backup singing. As a solo artist he did vastly more singing. Probably did as much on his first solo album as his entire Beatles career. Practice makes a difference. And his limited range close to his speaking voice makes him much less likely to have his singing voice deteriorate in old age.

It is clear that alcohol, tobacco and drugs have never been part of his life. Otherwise He would not look and sound so Healthy and young.
