- One of the great homes that John Lautner designed in the ‘40s, the Schaffer house blends into its wooded surroundings as if it had always been there.
I'm visiting all the landmarks in LA County listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Read more about this one and many more at etandoesla.com...

Hello; thanks.
In my opinion, the mastery is better showed in other buildings like "Casa Mar brisa" or the Goldstein house.
Fair enough! We’re each permitted our favorites. Both of those houses were much later in Lautner’s career where he was experimenting with different materials and ideas. To me the Schaffer distills so much of what made him wonderful into a simple, unfussy home. Marbrisa and Sheats-Goldstein are way showier, in terms of form and engineering.
@@etandoesla Of course; but those were the types of houses that set him apart. He had the rich clients and went for it with the design; many only do mc mansions...
I also like this house; and yes, is more budget friendly. Time ago I was closer to build a great "artistic" house near the beach but taxes of the plot let me out of the project due to calculated around 5 years to build it. Kind of me and a helper. Not so big but inspired in all these gems.
