      For a goal that’s been disallowed wrongly and they realise it so quickly, just stop and award the goal and go to kickoff. If the match has ended and it’s found out after the match then that’s just bad luck. That happens all the time. And always has. But while they are still on the pitch there’s no excuse for not stopping if they realise there’s been a mistake. This was literally 30 seconds after as well. Not 15 minutes. You would never have a situation where they realised a mistake after 1 minute anyway… so just stop.

      Go watch the video with the transcript. The video operator knows it's been given as offside on the pitch and is calling out that "our image shows its inside".
      The VAR official who communicates to the ref thinks it's been given as a goal on field. So he says, yup the check is ok. This indicates to the ref that no mistakes have been made and that his decision to award offside was correct.
      That then leads the video operator to say what what. This is wrong. He is trying to get the VAR and assistant VAR to delay the game but they say it's too late.
      For me the issue is that the VAR should not be using language like it's ok. He should be stating what actually happened. For example.
      "We can see on replay that the player is clearly inside and that this should stand as a goal". Saying yup ok has no information that either is on the same page.

    Included in the transcript, but strangely missing from the subtitles in the video that was released (why so??) is the last word from VAR Darren England to the referee, as the referee blew his whistle and raised his hand to signal offside to restart the game. That was the word "Off". If the referee has asked VAR to check whether a player was on or offside, and the last advice from VAR to the referee is the single word "Off", what else is the referee supposed to think was the final ruling from VAR on the question, other than that the player was offside? So this cannot be described as a misunderstanding or miscommunication by any objective analysis. Otherwise Darren England should be made to explain what else he meant by saying "Off" as his final word to referee Simon Hooper, which otherwise makes no sense. So that fewer people miss the significance of this decisive call of "Off", as well as in order to set the record straight, PGMOL should re-release their video, this time including in the subtitles the key word "Off", which is audible in the sound, and shown in the transcript as stated by VAR Darren England as his last word back to the referee on the check, but is oddly missing from the subtitles. Too many people appear to be distracted by the ineffectual confusion after the key final call from VAR Darren England to the referee of "Off", as the referee blows to re-start the game with an offside kick. Almost everyone, both in the studio as well as in this comments section, seems to be missing the wood for the trees here. Astonishing.

      So why is it.. all they said was check complete..
      Check complete does not verify offside nor onside.
      Infact "check complete" does not verify anything for the ref to resume the game.

    I am a Liverpool fan for 52 years and counting and I have no empathy for our owners, but on this occasion they have my full backing and this showed to me and millions and millions of Liverpool fans all around the world should be very proud of our owners calling out Howard Webb and VAR for what they are.
    I have other rival fans saying stop throwing your toys out of our pram, but this is not just about Liverpool as our owners called it out for a reason to protect our beloved game. On Saturday evening Barcelona were getting charged for bribing referee’s and then we have millions and millions off football fans watching Spurs v Liverpool then they get to watch one of the worst decisions since VAR was introduced and it was a VAR operator saying Luis Diaz was on side and for me there were to me chefs in the kitchen and this is a truly horrendous decision.
    If this happened to teams that are fighting relegation and say this happened and the team that scored and as I said if this had happened then the team on the last day would relegated costing that team millions and millions of pounds and this decision could also effect a team winning the Premier League or getting Champions League places.
    Look at the World Cup it was just technology and it worked very well and Howard Webb and the rest of the clowns at VAR should watch how the World Cup technology was so successful and even Premier League clubs should also watch it.
    As I said earlier I have no empathy for our owners but as I said they get my full support and like Mark Goldbridge said he wish Utd should be backing Liverpool along with other Premier League clubs.

I kept wondering why the broadcast didn't show the 2D lines on the screen? This was the biggest mistake made in England. The game was very tough for us, playing away from Anfield and with one player down until that moment. This goal would have changed everything. I'm 50 next year, lifelong LFC supporter, born and bred in Liverpool, plus I have Luis Diaz in my Fantasy Football team, so, there's obviously a shedload of bias but watching it live, I knew something was up. It was obvious watching it in real time, from the camera angle of the live play, that Romero's back foot is closer to the grass line than Diaz. What I found strange was that there wasn't a replay, or any mention of it by the commentary team in real time. When has an offside check ever been made that quickly, without there being a screenshot with the lines drawn on, plus there being no replay, or mention of it in real time by the commentary team? The minutae of the game is scrutinised and debated ad nauseum, to the nth degree, yet a disallowed goal was completely ignored, in real time and not referred to again. I don't believe for one second that everyone involved, including the commentary team, wasn't told to keep tight-lipped, until they had decided what the story was how they were going to present it. They were obviously panicking and of course, damage limitation is the first thought. I was also surprised how pragmatic Klopp was about it too. It all felt a bit 'off', like there was something I couldn't put my finger on. Whatever results from it, surely has to set a new precedent.

      @CarloRegadasGuitar 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@bryanteoh9308Yeah, I heard the interview. It wasn't so much the content of what he said, rather it was his demeanour that seemed out of character, especially for someone who ordinarily exhibits a lot more emotion, for much more innocuous issues than a disallowed goal. It just seemed remarkably accepting and composed in the heat of the moment. Censoring your speech is far easier than censoring your emotions and it's usually the content of language, rather than than demeanour or delivery, that has got him into trouble in the past.

  • @user-uy1jv7kl8v
    @user-uy1jv7kl8v 10 месяцев назад +1

    People don't know anything about the problem and why a replay match must be held, so I'll explain why. It's not about judgement of red card, handball or something like that, in which referee's judgement is involved and can be controversial, but by referee's call, it's decided. In this VAR case, VAR referee, who was in charge of the judgement of onside or offside, called it was onside, which means a goal, but the goal was disallowed. You know, when it comes to red card or handball, the on-field referee sometimes checks the video himself, which is the on-field check, but when it comes to onside or offside, the on field referee doesn't check it. Why not? Onside or offside is just a technical issue without human judgement involved. Just draw a line and you see. If it's onside, onside. If it's offside, offside. No human judgement involved at all like the goal line system. You guys know about the goal line system, right? It alarms the referee that it's a goal when the ball crosses the goal line. It's the totally same situation as when the goal line system calls that it's a goal but the referee disallows the goal. Can you accept it?

    the suspicious part is why the ref moves on very quickly without letting the offisde check happen. Can clearly hear that var guys anouncing they are checking it. But just overall from hearing how its done no wonder it takes 5 mins for them to just agree on a decision in past moments, they all talking over each other can only imagine the audio's of other VAR moments.

  • @heeby123
    @heeby123 10 месяцев назад +3

    I had concerns over the language used in previous clips released. There isn’t enough independence with the people involved imo. Hearing them call each other ‘mate’ and nicknames isn’t very professional in a multi billion pound industry. Mike Dean also referred to protecting his mate. Too much conflict of interest.
    It’s unfortunate for Liverpool but the good thing about such monumental mistakes is that it creates change and action. Now Webb and co should release the changes in comms and protocols mentioned. Be transparent with the fans and as consistent as possible to win back some credibility.

  • @vinceyeo3269
    @vinceyeo3269 10 месяцев назад +1

    The one burning question I have is why the offside line that was drawn not shown on the big screen. Why is it shown in some instances but not others? If VAR had shown it on the big screen, Simon Hooper would have seen it and recognised the monumental misunderstanding. PGMOL and some pundits (including our very own Stevie Nichols) are busy brushing it off as human error, which is all well and good if there is some consistency in the application of their processes.
    What job in this world requires zero accountability? England and Cook were PAID to do one job, and they were clearly busy/pre-occupied with something else beside the game itself. This farce is the direct result of professional negligence. A week in the sin bin is NOT a just punishment. They are not fit for the game.
    As the head of PGMOL, Howard Webb has had 12 months or so to fix the messy communication - which had been blaringly obvious in all the audios that were previously aired. Why has nothing been done to clear it up? What the hell does check complete even accomplish when the original decision being reviewed isn't even highlighted anywhere on a screen or verbally confirmed between VAR and the onfield ref? If Webb has allowed for incompetence and flawed process to persist, even after a series of terrible decisions, why is Webb not being held to account?
    It's not rocket science to fix the process for onfield referrals. (1) Verbally confirm the decision being referred (2) Put that decision on a screen throughout VAR room so everyone know what they are reviewing (3) Publicise the review process so there is full transparency in the review process, including the onfield ref (4) Show the outcome of the review which can be one of Confirming onfield decision, overturning onfield decision, or onfield ref monitor review.
    The protocol that a game can't be stopped also needs to change. In addition to current allowable conditions to stop the game, there need to be a condition to allow for incorrect FACTUAL or TECHNICAL decision to pause a game.
    PGMOL needs to own this and stop hiding behind their apologies. It's not good enough.

    Clearer communication from VAR would have been to explain what they see, "we can see that Diaz is onside". Not saying "we agree with you". This would have stopped the confusion.

    The reason the VAR stated that its too late is because of law 5. Its very clear that once play is restarted, they can not go back and change their decision. This was just as much the fault of the onfield referee as it was for the var. Hes on the same mics as everyone else. He couldve been clever and stopped the match after the restart for a number of reasons. He couldve said the ball wasnt placed properly. That would've given them the opportunity to fix the mistake. The on field referee did not say one word after they realized their error which is truly shocking. Clearly Darren England made a mistake and was not clear in his communication to the rest of the crew. And after the operator pointed out the error, he shouldve been screaming for play to be stopped. Instead he froze. Ive been refereeing for years, and im still utterly dumbfounded this happened.
