Been looking to get in EQ and figured this TLP would be a good jump in. Hoping this goes well. Any tips for a first timer on class selection and making sure I am able to keep up with the leveling curve? Hopefully FTE works well
Play the class you find the most fun. Every class has a role and they all have their peaks and valleys throughout the timeline. The most important thing is you're playing a class that you want to play since you'll be putting many many hours into it. I feel the most newbie friendly class is Druid because you get lots of utility + ports + SoW. But the best class is the one that gets you excited to log in everyday. EQ isn't like modern post-WoW MMOs where the "game begins at the endgame." In EQ the journey IS the game. Don't worry about keeping up or hitting cap. Explore and adventure. If you do want to raid in era, then maybe race to cap with one character but level more chill with an alt so you can enjoy it.
So basically this is live EQs way of saying boy we messed up when we made the new rules about camps and such and this is there solution to fix there rules.. I don't have any issue with power leveling and out of the multiple TLP servers I have played on I've never had an issue with people mass pling. It has never effected my game play and I've always been able to find groups and lvl my characters to max with no issue. I feel like Pling in a sense has almost always been a part of EQ to an extend or atleast as far back as I can remember. This feature ultimately is a way for EQ to fix the rules they changed within the game on how camps work and such and it's going to make some people happy and some people not happy. Do I personally think it's a silly change, yes. But I know there are plenty of people that are happy about it.
I like the idea of the lock, but being able to get actual help. Looking forward to the next year of upgrades, really really hoping to get EQ 1 v2.0 really really really want to see the graphics and update the UI, back in the day Id get a group of mobs down to .5% zone out and let the PL chars clean them up for the full xp, but yea there can be a few train issues. lol seems like maybe its linked to Agro over all?
Throwing this on a new TLP server in this state would be an absolutely atrocious idea. The UI engine seems mostly finished with minor bugs, but that encounter lock is super janky.
I’ve had a play on it too. You don’t even have to FD to train people. You can just run past them and the mobs jump agro to them. It’s so broken, there is no chance they will fix all of this before server launch. I worry how many people will be put off by this, move to another game and not come back. Everquest isn’t going to survive by attracting new players, it’s going to survive by keeping the core players happy. All this is doing is isolating people and pushing them away.
Core players dont pay for 12 accounts they want to multilog and call it boxing. Then to top it off you have gate keepers whom take whole zones hostage just to power level and krono farm. As a developer this was a bad idea allowing these cancers in the first place. This is to promote long term grouping instead of make 14 toons and do it all yourself. Some of us here are eq alpha testers and beta testers. We hate power leveling and many of the things this is trying to address. If eq carries water for this so called core elitest group will bring the demis faster. Yes the bugs suck and i hope its fixed. I have prayed for a true box no power leveling server without krono for some time. Many have and this is the first step to that. The elitiest has been the end of eq all along......

With that said, everyone knows that if people didn't insist on playing multiple accounts (boxing) EQ would've died many years ago. The revenue keeps flowing in mostly because each player has at least 2 accounts, but usually much more, and that drives up the profit. I'm not sure how it'll effect "boxing" as a whole, but it will surely help the DPS racing problem with people simply moving into a camp and taking it over from people (usually lower level) to farm krono. I've always hated powerleveling...I think the people that do it only care about "end game" and not the "journey". If "end game" is all you care about and you feel you've taken the "journey" so much it's boring...play WoW or some other MMO. It's obvious you've stayed in Norrath way too long as it is and need to play something else. I know modern EQ is a different game than it used to be, but it's still EQ...and EQ has always been about the "journey"...heck, back in the day they'd even release some xpacs even before they finished the "end game" content! Not that "end game" isn't important, but so is the "journey" too...and when some people make the "journey" a little slice of frustration for others because they feel entitled to just blow on through and take over content from players on their "journey" that's a bad thing. Basically, if EQ can't survive without mega-boxers and powerlevelers then just let it die. I'd rather see it die than see it ruined any more than it already has been.
@@elwood_eq7550It's a lot of ugly but no they could have sharnk to 2 to 3 servers and maintained. Took the game off the never ending gear creep zone over load cycle. Question really is can it be fixed now? Not without massive work and pissing off the hard cores that hate everyone else anyways.
I mean im glad they are trying new things but it looks like to me that encounter lock should be shelved until next years tlp imo. Too buggy... what honestly bugged me alot was the guard not helping lots of obvious flaws to the system. Like truly training... that has to be fixed before it goes live for sure....
Keep in mind, this is being done on test server and not on live. this system isn't currently in use on any TLP's or live servers. It was intended to be used on the new TLP server Oakwynd, but after watching this video, i doubt that happens.
after watching your video taking away power leveling makes the game less fun. As EQ players we like to exploit whatever we can, boxing, power leveling unique ways, it's what makes EQ fun. Now after watching this I'm not sure I want to play Oakwynd anymore when I was kind of hyping myself up to play again. Got my Sub

And how proud Jenn Chan was on The Everquest Show last month and she was smirking about some new changes coming that they're really happy about and we'll like...THIS is what you were happy about? You guys nailed it out of the park with Mischief and TB...add on to that system. This should be cancelled asafp.
OMG its going to be such a clusterf*ck opening day. I can't wait. Don't get me wrong, I hate everything about the new encounter locking feature especially since they apparently don't have a QA department, but theres something satisfying about pure and total chaos and I can't wait.
arghh, i was so hyped to play a new tlp this year, but this new features seems to be terrible.If it isn't removed, on launch, it s goign to be a mess. The training issues won't be a problem until mid levels. I don't want to be discouraged then after playing a few weeks or so. I guess i will have to cast a reclaim energy on myself and focus on other things before the server launches.
This FTE needs a lot of work. At the moment, it's as bad as I expected it to be and full of mechanics that break in odd ways. Looks incredibly frustrating.

They're destroying EQ1 by importing some of the worst parts of EQ2. Seems like they seriously want to get rid of the entire support staff and make the game run without doing anything. I'm willing to bet this FTE will eventually make it over to live some day in the near future. So sad to see what's happened to this game...
I honestly detest power leveling. It takes away the fun of the game in my opinion. I love the grind of leveling my own characters and playing lots of alts. Oakwynd is perfect for my taste. I guess it's not for everyone, but people who enjoy playing different classes and just grouping with people to level instead of paying krono's for bullshit power leveling will find a nice home here.
Please stream this mess. There needs to be a bunch of watchers to tell DB to stop the release. Or at least swap it to a Mischief version or something functional. Postpone it for a month or at least a week. This is not what I would want for any MMO. Particularly one that I wanted to play again. How does the meme go... I'm not mad, just disappointed.

You get a complete functional idea and then you try it out. And what I have seen here is not remotely that. imo idk y ppl making excuses for bad products like this.

The reason is because the gear generally scales with the expansions, and the expansions are generally enjoyed at higher levels. It sounds like what would make you more happy is a server perma locked to Classic, maybe Kunark.
It actually looks like training is completely unaffected in its base state. In fact, it's even worse. At 9:20 you'll see him grab a handful of mobs with the monk, pull them to a group and FD. The mobs properly de-aggro from the monk but immediately start attacking the nearest player. However, the mobs are still locked to the monk so the new player being attacked has no way of defending himself.

At the heart of the issue is that EQ was not designed with FTE in mind. It's such an unfun bad idea.
I wonder if you can yell at a mob someoneelse is engage with and unlock on them. Also if you target the out of group player and yell, what happens?

For me the framerate has had lag since the 2nd anv patch on live

Try training with your monk and fd on your warrior and then use furious. also try doing just taunt and then try aoetaunt
