Love the commentary and agree. The challenges and experiences can be endless if you want. Played back in 1999, then again on blue in 2016 and got a 60 cleric up to raiding. Quit bc I hate raiding lol. Started back up a few days ago with new characters, feeling like a noob all over again. It's an experience like no other game out there in my opinion.
Everything you said is 100% legit. This game is like no other game I've ever played. I've never gone back to a game and played it again and again. Everquest is legit one one the hardest and most rewarding games ever. There is so much to do in this game that you could go a very long time without hitting max level and still be satisfied.
Great video I like EQ for the same reasons we could use a few more options that have consequences nowadays instead people seem to want EQ to become more like all the other games out there which makes no sense there's enough of those types already
I don't mind either dropping my stuff OR deleveling. Both together are just savage lol. This is what i loved about EQOA, No corpse runs, no deleveling, you got debt, which sucked enough. Took hours to clear debt, you still got EXP, but a portion of your EXP went towards paying your debt off. You still feared death, but didn't want to rage quit from one bad night.
All good bro, I enjoy your channel more than most of the other EQtubers. Next time I catch ya online I’d be down to kick it in game on my 51necro. Cheers bud, keep ‘em coming when you can. No rush!
When I was young, I used to thinking loosing exp in EQ was stupid. Now a days, I think more mmos should look back eq. I've never been as engaged with an mmo as I was with eq back in the day.. sand giants still give me nightmares.
Runescape used to be exactly like this, but even worse. Before gravestones that would hold your items for extended periods of time, if you died everything except your 3 most valuable items would drop on the floor. And after 1 minute people could see it and pick it up. After 3 minutes total, anything you had, despawned. And that's that.
i think Wiz would have been a good idea. its 2 bad it didnt win my "starting a" series im doin. Enchanter in the lead Wiz got 2nd so far tho. women lie men lie numbers dont lie strat for my next class
Agree on the instanced dungeons but one thing that most people don't notice is that all instanced dungeons tend to look like a horseshoe with a boss at the end. It's formulaic and lazy. I like the open world Everquest version of dungeons. It feels more alive. It forces cooperation. When LDON came out and instanced dungeons started coming to EQ, it was the beginning of the end. Forced cooperation is the best part of Everquest. It makes anti-social people less anti-social. It's better for your mental health.
As a 51 Shaman I am camping the spectrals in Trakanon's Teeth - follow the wall to the left after exiting Swamp of No Hope zoneline. I sit up on the wall and pull to my pet using slow, put the highest level disease and poison dot on, root it, then canni-dance til it's dead, loot, repeat when good on mana. Only annoyance is the frogloks that patrol between you and the specs and if you need to run, the zl is very close. Hope this helps someone. 🙂 - Dreadmystic Venomtongue of
i think its in the options. sorry i forget its been awhile. the one on my necro you just start with the one on my shaman i def changed at some point i think just in the options. respond if you cant find it and ill go look what its called for you
Instanced dungeons prevent you from cooperating or conflicting. On pvp servers, the popular camps were highly contested territory. On Tallon Zek specifically, you had to watch out for iksar players defending places like Old Sebilis, so fungi tunics were rare and hard to get. Starting zones turned into mass slaughter sometimes because dozens of players would decide it was time to wipe the new toons. It added another layer of difficulty. If you ever want to try it out, look for the Scaled Horde guild on Zek.
non instances make the loot more special and the names more exclusive. idk it just feels more special to me in my opinion of course. i also played wow and raided and got tier 2 raiding gear so ive played both ways and still prefer P99 where i have had 2 level 60s and 2 mid 50s and a couple 40s now over my life
EverQuest reminds me of a space sim. Explore...lose your shit... explore some more, lots of grinding. I wish more fantasy games took that approach. I love the penalty for death.
one of my favorite things was back when like everything wasnt on the internet like you had to figure it out and it felt like there was an unexplored corner or camp you could still find
P99 is somewhat limited. The live servers have potions for teleporting, so a shaman can make potions to port to as many zones as wizards or Druids. I make a fortune in platinum making them for fighters, rogues and the like who lack even gate.
Such limitations add secondary benefits. Like how in FF1 you actually care about your money cause you needed potions and cures and they cost serious cash.
Go explore. I have a 77 iksar shaman on Zek and I just go poking around the world for fun. Zek is a pvp server, so there are players adding to the danger when I’m just looking around. A resurrection is easy on live servers, because shaman gets one at 59. I like galavanting around the world. Sometimes I go someplace to kill just a single mob and move on.
How did you get that UI? just started playing again on green after some years and everything is clear, I tried changing skins but none of the others worked very well.
I agree on xp penalty and non instances on dungeons, but I don't agree with you regarding Raids. This is because I have been in a Uber guild controlling everything, like no one got anything unless we stopped raiding at lower lvls. I have also been in guilds that are more than capable on raiding, but Zerg and/or Uber guilds hogging everything and again if they stop raiding Lower end, then again it's training and shady shit to get what the Uber guild don't raid(unless they want some stuff for their alts, then even Fear, hate, Sky isn't available for the other guilds). I agree on you on several points, but it is not what most people want or even have the time to do so, meaning you can't do Planes or a Hard spot in a Dungeon, because time is a constraint for most people playing a MMO. You can actually make things hard without it being a huge time sink, meaning that you can get something playing 4 to 5 hours, I never liked going after something that took me weeks sitting at a F ing spot, it was shit like that made me quit it in 2005. I do play on live and Project Quarm now again and don't tell me that live isn't a hard game (getting raid gear, even group gear, you need a group at that lvl to do so). Even with a Merc at lvl 70 and upwards you need to group to even lvl up, some can solo great like the Necro, it's more or less the same in that way. I do love playing Everquest and it's like playing AS&D first/second Edition (which this game was founded on), but I also want to Advance in the game beyond the PoP era, I love both live and Quarm, it's about playing with other people, shit even getting to be real life friends which I made in EQ. WoW Classic, I played to my mid 40s but it never have had the appeal to me like Everquest, whatever edition of it you are playing. What I think is most appealing with Project Quarm is that it's much simpler, on live you more or less have the same UI (it's outdated because you have to many things going on, aka tons of different macros, based on a MUD game, it's due for an upgrade like 15 years ago 😅), and of course friends that I have made there already, even though I only have a lvl 10 Cleric. Everquest 3 is starting its production in 2025 (They are in Ideation phase), they say that 80% of the game will be like EQ, it's a 80 10 10 model, but it's probably not going to be done into 2028/2029. I like P99, Quarm and Live EQ videos on RUclips, if I want to just relax, I often view a video like this, because I enjoy EQ in general. Cheers 🍻
your talking about trying a new character... have you tried doing a Va- Shir Beastlord??? and if you want hard try going directly to game where you start out on Lucilin !!! dont use the gloomingdeep starter area. that makes any character harder, because the quests are harder t find and the places you need to get to to level are dangerous travels sometimes. granted - the everquestgame now a days is simplified ! i remember when glooming deep was not in the game. and if you wanted to find groups you had to DARE travelling to POK !!! meaning you searched long and hard to find one of the POK pedestaled books in an area near your starting zone. back then we had no maps! we were making them as we fought and loosing levels trying to map entire regions . took me i think 2 months of playing to map the beginners area on lucilin . every 3 rd day of gaming was a day of mapping what i new was safe, and then pushing to see how much more i could map before i die. it was made much easier when my druid finally got to POK and started travelling to the home cities of my smaller characters and helped them level up. (2 boxing so to say - but i was using 2 massive tower and tube tv computers. that was before the invention of programs that let you BOX . i was paying like 40 dollars a dvd and 20 dollars per account per month, to play 2 characters by myself and safely level and map areas. but like i was saying-- a Va- shir beastlord beginning on Lucilin ( the home world ) is a fun way to learn the Va-shir city and realm . i remember mapping the whole of the va-shir city just to find NPC's so i could piece together some hint of a quest. It was a good game for it's time because it was new and exciting. However, it required a lot of time playing in order to get the most out of it. You had to be prepared to sit in PoF for 12 hours straight and more if the break in went bad. A FAILED nagafan raid could take 6 hours if you wiped and had to CR. You literally had to play this game to the point where it became a job. The game was not hard in a sense that it was hard to kill mobs or hard to get from one place to another, it was hard because if you wanted say a FBSS, or if you wanted to raid POF or do a Vox raid, you needed to be prepared to sacrifice time. And back then you could die from even a disconnect. In short, the game was hard because of the amount of time you needed to commit to it.
I know they even harder on p99 they don't get some early in tools but at like 23 ish I think they get a dope undead proc that's just fun if your careful you can solo ya way up for sure.

right! totally agree it like why look both ways if you get hit by a car and no consequence? in EQ you lookin both ways like 8 times

Suggestions: an expose on higher level zones.. pluses and minuses. Especially the higher level zones.
great idea. if you stick around awhile you might see that come to fruition
Wiz can be more subtle and tricky than you might think. Will make you appreciate just how much supporting one with Mana regen can turn the tide.

im looking for any creative/safe/obscure camps. peraps some mid range difficulty spots also.
I wouldn't mind if guilds could request an instanced zone for a raid once a week or so, but instanced dungeons absolutely not.
