Kendal Mountain Festival 2023 adidas TERREX 10km Trail Run - what's it like? (very hilly & muddy!)

  • It was really fun to run a shorter, faster event at Kendal Mountain Festival this winter - the misty, drizzly and very muddy adidas TERREX 10km Trail Run was harder than an ultra in some ways! It was good to push the heart rate up high up all those slippery hills, and it was great to see so many people enjoying this hilly, off-road race from Kendal town centre and over the nearby Scar and golf course.
    Whoops!
Since pushing myself in this race I've been ill with a cold and not done any running since, nearly a fortnight on, darnit! Must have worked harder than I thought, and then gone back to a germ-ridden toddler... a slight pause to my Arc of Attrition 50 training for the race at the end of Jan. I don't want a repeat of the Manx Mountain Marathon 50k DNF in April earlier this year so I'm totally resting until this has entirely left me this time. Definitely recommend this race, it's a nice, short, sharp blast around the hillsides before you get back into the festival and film-watching fray.
    THANKS!
Thanks to Ourea Events for entry to this race. Their races are always super well organised and I always enjoy them, even the ones I can't complete... • How NOT to do the Cape...

I went on the train to Kendal Mountain Festival, it takes much longer and is more expensive than going by car but you do have the advantage of being able to work on the train. See my instagram reel here, created on the journey home. / cz1nx2rtefd

Defo! Hope to be there again, I'll race you... will you be at Nene Valley again? I am (hopefully!) doing the 20 miler next year! Not organising anymore, prefer racing!

@@wildgingerruns Challenge accepted! I need to start lining up my trail races for the summer. Was going to be doing Mozart as my main race which meant I wouldn't have done Nene but after the whole UTMB/Ironman fiasco(s), I'm binning that off. So quite possibly doing Nene now :)

    Looks like a good stomp!
I did my first fell race last year.
Did NOT respect the distance, went out way too fast and blew up instantly, kept slipping and twisting my ankle, finished second from last with one of my slowest 10k times ever (about 76 minutes)
    10/10 recommend

Ha ha ha! That sounds brilliant! Well, apart from the twisted ankle. Everything else is a learning experience to be cherished! Well done!

Looks like a great race, is that where the mints are from? Gotta respect the guy in sandels!

Yes! Indeed, this is the town of the famous Kendal Mint Cakes, just basically minty sugar blocks, quite nice really! Guy in Sandals was barefoot before the race, thought he was going to go round with nothing on his feet!

Looks like a lovely course, well done.
I'd probably fall over on the down hill into town though.

Thanks Tracy! I did! It was very different to the ultras, I think I should enter more short ones to mix things up a bit!
