    Got this game for 3 quid in my local GAME in the early 2000's, a bargain! I still enjoy playing this today. The indoor mode is awesome. (I also own the N64 version as well, takes a while getting use to the controls though.)

    hmmm... I'm biased for ISS Pro Evo, it took the physics on to a new level at the time. We used to laugh at the FIFA magic boot glue.

    Oh what a great game that was. I mean I can't play it now, but for the time the sheer depth and presentation just blew my mind. I got my PlayStation at Christmas 1997 with two games, and on Boxing Day I went to buy this. My first and possibly best PS1 purchase.

    FIFA 94 was my earliest memory as a kid on the megadrive and I've always bought them though there's been some stinkers over the years. None of the FIFA games though come close to Pro Evolution 6 that game for me was still the most fun I'd ever had on a football game.

    Which FIFA game was it where you could play teams from the 1920s, but they played in sepia or black and white?

    • @LondonRavenZero
      @LondonRavenZero 7 лет назад +2

      That's in WC'98. There's also an option for sepia in the most excellent Sensible Soccer Meets Bulldog Blighty on Amiga Power Coverdisk #21, along with a Cannon Fodder crossover mode where the ball is a grenade. Check out the ADF good sir; enjoy your work.

      Fifa 2000.. They had like England 1966, Manchester United 1968 and Brazil 1973.. And yes some from the 30s... The ball pitch and color of the screen would change depending on the era the team came from... It pisses me off they haven't done it since

    Good ol' times. I remember that in a classics match of 1980 Pietro Vierchowod was a team member of Italy. In reality he was also a squad member of the 'modern' Italian squad of 1998, but he wasn't registered as an Italian squad member in the game itself.

    Kimbo, I can't believe you didn't speak a bit more about the origins and the early years and build up in the MegaDrive. FIFA had a couple of resurrections (FIFA 98 and then after being defeated by Konami's PRO) but the nothing would have been possible without the golden Mega Drive years...

  • @VVc0w

    Great review Kim, I never played this and still need a copy, but I bloody loved World Cup 98 on n64 and PS1 and I even liked Three Lions, I'm not even a football or sports fan, but back in the day my friends all were so I naturally got sucked into playing multiplayer!

    There's a fascinating degree of arrogance in thinking the single most popular sport on the planet wasn't something that was going to sell...
    I hate sports in general (sports games even more so), but I would still say if you're going to pick one to make a game about for a worldwide audience, Football would be the one to go with.

      To be fair, in the early 1990s, the two biggest video game markets were the US and Japan, two countries that have never been big supporters of football to that point. Europe's video game market was mostly PC based and the market was saturated with a lot of football games (most of which were bad)

    Actually the very first 32-bit FIFA game (which came out on the 3DO) was released to near critical acclaim. I remember here in the US a magazine called Computer Player gave it a rare (for them at least) 10 or of 10 saying "you're looking at perhaps the greatest sports game ever. Period."
    Then again, they may have been enamored by the 3D engine.

    • @SNARC15
      @SNARC15 7 лет назад +1

      As did I forgot how Need for Speed was such a misnomer on the 3DO because the game was actually quite slow. A year later I did get a new Pentium 150 PC and later a Diamond Monster 3D card to play RTWC 98 and NHL 98. It was such a blast!

    I played the crap out of WC98 on PC back in the day. I remember playing on 45 min halves and beating Iran 72-6 with Germany, which was both the most goals I'd scored and most goals I'd given up in a match. Nowadays I'd never have time to play any sports game on full time settings (if they even allow it) both because of the timesink but also because you can just never get a realistic result out of it. I also just fucked around a lot with that game, tackling the goalie to get a red card until I forfeited from having too few players. Kind of sucks that they didn't have indoor mode in that game because it's my favourite part of a lot of the older FIFA games (and one of the ones on the Wii). That newer FIFA Street game has fun indoor arenas too.

    Technically, the governing bodies of American Football, Basketball and Hockey aren't the NFL, NBA, and NHL. Their governing bodies are the IFAF (Gridiron), FIBA (Basketball), IIHF (Hockey). And leagues don't have the rights to player likenesses or names, their unions do (NFLPA, NHLPA, NBPA, MLBPA).
    In Association Football, players rights are usually held with their unions as well. For example, in Great Britain, the Professional Footballers' Association control player assets. France has UNFP and Germany has VdV for example, and a lot of players associations in football are linked together in FIFPro, which is a large governing body of player unions.

    fifa international was the best. running away from the referee was hilarious till you eventually got bored and let him catch you to send you off lol, fifa 95 was wicked too. the crazy cheats with curve ball and invisible walls and stuff, the shear mental goals you could score on that game were amazing. i would run towards my own goals holding long pass, punt the ball at my goal keeper from half way then hold towards the opposition goal putting back spin on the ball till it flew down the pitch at like 100miles an hour for a goal lol was brilliance. games have totally lost the charm and character they had back then. you should do a pes one too for a while that was the better game. it started as international superstar soccer lol

    He makes a load of errors, firstly saying how “revolutionary” the isometric view was on FIFA 96! ISS deluxe on the super nes was WAY better, the only downer was not having the proper names! Same with his crap about leaving ISS98 in the dust which is also bs as Konami’s effort received FAR better reviews!!
    One good thing about this game was the amount of international teams which has never been repeated on ANY football game! I wish someone would! I want to try and do something with the Faro Islands who keep being thrashed 10-0 and only play football part time!

    Was FIFA 64 the game that Nintendo got before Road to the World Cup came along? that was a terrible game, comparing that to the RTTWC that came after you see an incredible change, also worth note is the excellent World Cup game of 2010 that got so many things right and introduced the seasons mechanic that is used for online progression, gameplay balance make it simply the best FIFA to date.
