    Learn Everything About Design’s video explains in detail why the MetroX review videos were delayed-primarily due to Revo Scan beta updates coming out too quickly and frequently. I didn’t back MetroX this time since I don’t need laser scanning, but honestly, after watching your video, I have to say it felt a bit like an attempt at competitive interference.

    I agree with you in most points, but there are couple point, I don't.
    - Blue laser scanners need tons of markers. Regardless of the maker. Just go look for Rob Dahm scanning his wide body RX-7 creation. That body was littered with targets, so the professional scanner is able to track it correctly.
    - Einstar SW Exstar was developped over last two years and it started as fairly simple (and buggy) piece of crap. Now it works great and even the HW requirements went down. I'm expecting pretty much the same for the MetroX. It's a totally new technology for Revopoint, so I wouldn't be disappointed, if the first SW release is kinda piece of crap, if there will be updates in upcomming months.
    The biggest issue of Einstar is scanning of small objects. It shines on large parts, such as body panels and engine components. I designed a whole tow bar around the scan of my Toyota and it worked great. If the MetroX is just as good and if it's capable of capturing smaller objects than Einstar, I would be completely happy. Don't forget to mention, that Einstar doesn't work right with a turntable, which is kinda bummer for me as well.

    I don't understand why the markers are an issue. I can put 1000 markers on the side of a vehicle and wrap the corners in 10 to 15 minutes by myself. I can remove them in 5 to 10 minutes by myself.

    I think the Raptor and RaptorX being released really rushed the MetroX release. Revo said the software couldn't even use the GPU yet, that's why it was so slow in the live demo. That's also probably why no one else was allowed to make videos with it yet. I have the Miraco Pro and Einstar, and I use the Miraco 95% of the time for reverse engineering. I backed the MetroX on Day 1 because Revo will come thru with a great product. Hopefully they get the production models ready soon so we can see some of those honest reviews though

  • @Gaston12345
    @Gaston12345 2 месяца назад +3

    I have never got hands on a 3d scanner, so I may not be the ideal person to argue for or against the MetriX. 😅But one thing I challenge about your argumentation is: You say that we are at a point where we don't need more accuracy. And also that we need to be able to scan shiny surfaces.
    To my understanding, this is exactly where laser scanning comes in. And actually I do care about accuracy. And I am willing to trade scanning effort into it. And also if you want to scan shiny objects, laser scanning can do that. But it needs markers. That's not a limitation of metrox, but of the technology. I mean to read you questioning the need of markers, given that there are many features. No, that's not going to work with laser scanning. No matter how many features there are on the scanned object. (There is one laser scanner which does not require markers. It's yours for about 30k. It works with 90+ lines, more than the metrox in full field mode). So when you begin saying that you don't like markers, because of the hassle, then continue saying that you don't care about the additional accuracy laser scanning gives you (this, also, is not a metrox thing, nor a marketing thing, but a technology thing), then say that you don't like how slow it is, then continue saying that you want to scan shiny objects, but argue that this has not really been solved, because it needs markers, then, technically you are just saying that you don't like laser scanning with its pros and cons as a technology. And not liking a technology of course means not liking the products implementing that technology.
    As of the other arguments: Honestly I don't know if they sent their protos to 3rd party testers in previous campaigns. But the money back guarantee you definetly also did not have. And to be honest, you don't save soooo much money if you count in customs, vat, shipping etc. And yes, We don't know if the scanner sucks in usage. That's Kickstarter. It's even more so in other campaigns, where you spend your money towards an idea, where they just tell you that they think it will be great eventually.
    I will stay in, and I think I even will if they won't show us much more in the next days. But of course, everyone has to judge for himself. Probably, thinking it over, would lead to the conclusion that you are better off risking to pay 200 bucks more later on Amazon. But then there is the 'I want it, and I want it now' factor.😅

    • @Gaston12345
      @Gaston12345 27 дней назад

      Ok, I got it. Instead of a video (I think no one wants to see an absolute noob trying to get decent scans, filmed with mediocre setup and filming skills😂) just a short, very basic impression: well - for me I guess I gambled well staying in. 😊 I really like the scanner, and I especially like the laser mode. I don't know if it is me or MetroX or the technology itself, but with full field mode I had a very hard time getting scans from grooves, recesses, holes and so on. And it was just like: "Here's your scan, that's the best I can do, no need to scan it again and again, I already know what's there". And what it wouldn't see it wouldn't see also in the 2nd and 3rd pass.
      Laser scanning experience is so much better for me: I "paint" it, and the more I do so, the more details it sees. So, if I see that something is missing, I just stay there, giving it a few more "brushes". Like sculpting, it comstantly refines the model while scanning. Full field was much more 'static'. And the result was much worse.
      That being said, I don't know if it is just the lack of (any!) experience with scanning, or even if the MetroX is a great laser scanner but a mediocre full field scanner. I suppose it's half my lack of skills and the technology.
      But it came as a bit of a surprise to me that I as a complete beginner would have a better time and results with the laser mode over the full field mode. I would have expected it to be vice-versa. Oh, but what I have to say: The included sample bust scanned in auto turn table mode came out absolutely perfect.

      Nothing shady about it. They launched it with Kickstarter because of the new technology development and based off their improvements the last month, it's going to be a great scanner. Passing up on a blue line laser scanner for under $700 is probably the dumbest thing people could do if they're in the market for a scanner. Especially one with a 2 year warranty. You could go buy a $2k Vega and get mediocre scans 😆

  • @Texas3DCustoms
    @Texas3DCustoms 2 месяца назад

    So from what I understand, laser scanning does not work with feature tracking, and it has a relatively small FOV, with that said this is why they have tons of markers. The same is true for the Raptor, there was a video of someone scanning a rear bumper in laser mode and the number of markers was daunting. I raised that question about why the beta users had nothing but unboxing videos the answer I got was be patient the software is being developed. Why do we care about packaging I don't need 10 videos of unboxing and that's it for a month. Yes I do think vendor based demos are at best biased most likely snake oil.

    • @rafall1118
      @rafall1118 2 месяца назад

      @ The problem has always been tracking and scan processing. The tracking issue is kind of related to the hardware too - low frame rate and narrow scanning window. One simple solution they could apply would be texture tracking, a standard in other scanners yet unachievable to Revopoint because they cheaped out on the rgb cameras too. This is also apparent in marker tracking where it needs like 10 visible because it can barely detect half of them.
      The processing one is caused by the fusion method Revoscan uses. No professional scanning software makes a "baked" point cloud during merging steps yet Revoscan does. This means invidual frames' transformations are lost and thus can't be perfectly fitted together when you merge multiple scans. This causes seams Revopoint is unfortunately known for, as well as other dimensional inaccuracies.

I commented on one of the unboxing videos asking when they can post a review and it sounds like the embargo is supposed to end a couple days before the campaign or so; I’m guessing there is still horrible software associated with it that needs work and they don’t want it to sink their campaign. I’d rather spend the extra few hundred bucks if it’s worth it after release than spend almost a thousand for a paperweight.

    I've backed 4 scanners from them, POP, POP2, MINI and Range. All of these got user reviews either at the beginning of the campaign or after a week. The scanners of course weren't as good as promised but at the time nothing better was either, all you had were Kinect hacks or paper weights like XYZ 3D Scanner or Structure Sensor. Now with actual competition Revopoint can't keep up anymore. Back then when Revopoint wasn't as big one could research their original products, what they were doing were 3D sensors for scanning faces in China, as well as a barebones app for that. All they've done since is added extra features to that same old technology. This also explains why Revopoint doesn't scan anything even slightly darker, the scanners just weren't designed to do that. MetroX is like the first actual new device from Revopoint, and I guess they can't into lasers 😂

    hi, i start my journey with david scanner 3D with handle laser and trust me just for scanning a playstation controller take me 3 hours!!! without maker because in 2005 i don't have enough information about it. since then i try david scanner with projector it was a big improvement after that i reduce my time for scanning by 3. Revopoint bring Pop scanner and i reduce my time by 3 (15 minutes) for the same object. i try pop, mini, and range and i back Metrox why supposely help with shiny surface and dark surface and more FPS ( equal faster scan capture). For the accuracy weel depend what kind of object you scan but for me i use mini it's my go to for fine detail. David scanner can achive the same accuracy of mini and metrox but the setup time and scanning time is basicaly to long. the software is really great and much fast than david scanner 3d but it work great to. when you compare other scanner at price range of 30 000$ it's always the same or better accuracy but the FPS it's much higher (120 FPS) that mean you take less time to capture the object.

      Similar for me too. I built my own stepper motor / laser hardware for David, then swapped the laser for Acer K11 projector. Then later got David 5 with the official projector and dual cameras. It's such a pity Hewlett Packard killed the project after they bought David out. If they'd carried on developing it, I'm sure it would blow all these Chinese systems away, as they had something like a 15 year head start. Yes, some of these Chinese systems seem pretty good value, but it's so annoying that release new hardware every few months rather then refining a system. I watch the reviews of all the new, budget scanners, but every time I start thinking 'this looks like the one I'll upgrade to', a new model is out.
      I was also watching the MetroX Kickstarter at the beginning, but the lack of real world user reviews put me off.
