5 yards of gain, with better peak height, more spin, better land angle...these are massive gains! Remember the person looking to buy this club, will more than likely struggle with ball speed, peak height, land angle and spin. Thank you for this data, great job!
Please keep these coming.... This is so much more helpful than other vids saying things like "feels great" or "looks great." We need real data to determine actual forgiveness of an iron. Your work is probably the only one out there that validates any of the marketing hypes or cons out there.
Great video! I went from the 919 HMP to 921 HMP only because I had recently purchased used 919’s just as the 921’s became available so it was only a $150 price difference to upgrade to the 921 HMP. I can’t tell much of a difference between the two but I gained a few more yards with the 921’s. Hands down the softest feeling clubs I’ve ever owned.
Jay, you give the best club comparisons on the Net because you drill down and explain the performance on non-center hits. Most of us amateurs do not consistently hit the center of the club face, but we do generally know what our miss is. For example, my miss is low and towards the toe. In fact, I probably hit low and towards the toe more often than I hit the center of the face. In effect, low and towards the toe is my "center" of the club face, so I look for clubs that perform best with that kind of strike. A thought - It would be great if you could do a video that showed which irons performed best at a given strike location - high center, low center, high toe, low toe, center toe, high heel, low heel, center heel (maybe you don't need the high heel, as that's probably a shank, lol). Keep up the great work!
Thank you, thank you for this video. This is exactly what I was looking for in a review of the JPX919 HM Pro vs 921HM Pro. I just bought the 919 HM Pros a month ago & pleased to see such a tiny difference between them. I guess if I wanted to play the 921, all I have to do is make the lofts 1* stronger. Great review & graphics.
Thanks Angel for your kind feedback, I'm glad to hear that you got some valuable information from the content 👍 Thanks for the comment and for watching.
I recently purchased a new set of 919 HM pros. This video was great to make me feel i made the right move saving money getting the last generation HMP.
Just gone to Mizuno 921 Hot Metal Pro (with stiff lightweight shaft) from Titleist AP2 (2010 model with standard stiff shaft). Enormous gains across the board for me despite slowing swing speed due to age ! Hugely impressed with the 921 HM Pro. Great video and stats, thanks Jay,
That's really fantastic stats work, and with pictures, showing the drop-off data! If you could do this on the other 'current' Mizuno line of clubs, [Forged & Tour], and also [MP, MMC, HMB] that would be an incredible contribution to everyone's knowledge base and I think a great fitting tool for everyone because the data about drop-off in the Toe area is really what I think is the BIGGEST difference when you compare MP to MMC and I would love to see the data for Forged vs HM Pro (my guess is the gains are very small with the 921). Awesome stuff!
Hi Paul, my latest compare vids have this included data as a series. Haven't edited the Tour one yet and depending on the want I may or may not use the time to complete something else that people want to see.....
Great video! I know you said people on 919 hmp wouldn't be jumping to 921 hmp but what about jumping from 919 forged to 921 hmp? The increase in ball speed and distance has me seriously considering this... what is your professional opinion plz
I have 919 forged. Not that forgiving especially in the low irons. Considering 919/921 hot metal pros. Bigger club head. Similar top line. And middle of the road top line from forged to hot metal
Nice work Jay. Not at big a jump in performance but definitely an improvement and a refinement in looks. Mizuno have come a long way since the EZ Series.
I put the Nippon 950 GEO shaft in my 919 hmp and what a difference, I was having trouble stopping them on the green from 170 and out, with this shaft not an issue, I believe shaft really matters in these new strong lofted low cg clubs, was thinking about weakening the lofts but the shaft change took care of it, now get the distance and stopping power
Hi Marty, sometimes shaft can make all the difference in set makeup. Going a different way to the expected fitting and not necessarily the required Bend Profile especially in the longer irons can do the same job of weakening. Glad you managed to get the issue sorted 👍
Another great video with your excellent forgiveness graphics. The Question I am asking myself after watching your 921 forged comparison video is why buy the forged when the HM Pro seems to perform better and is more forgiving? What do you think, is it just preference? I have subscribed, this is great content!
Great comparison Jay, there’s definitely an incremental gain in the newer model but that’s to you and your ball striking.I’d imagine to the handicap golfer this would be negligible. Enjoy your in-depth reviews and data sets👍
The greatest difference in amateur testing at present has been in the Forged. The HMPro and HM have seen incremental gains. The Chromoly in the Forged has seen a larger jump in off centre performance for sure 👍
Great video. Can I ask On comparison what feels better between the mizuno jpx 921 hmp and the titleist t300 as I would clad them very similar irons but would like to know your opinion on what feels better please
It's a push but personally think the HMB have it. But feel is very subjective. Performance will be very close so it will def come down to looks and feel 👍
@@AskGolfNut excellent thank you. I have the t300 and like them it’s just from 7 iron up the clicking sound from the max impact on the back has started to get to me after a while any excuse to go try something shines thanks again
I'm that case the copper underlay in the MP20 range has a definite deadening to any unwanted crack that you can sometimes get from hotter faced irons 👍
Awesome video and detail in your analysis. I have been gaming the 919 HM Pro and was wondering if there is a big difference. Your data seems to show some ballspeed and distance, but not enough to open my wallet for now. This is one of the best tests I have seen on RUclips.
I really liked the dispersion ring comparison in your latest Ping i-series irons. Would you say the 921 HMP's dispersion ring is closer to the i500 or i210 ? I like the tight front-to-back dispersion of the i210 but also love the potential extra forgiveness of the HMP. Are you losing a lot of forgiveness playing the i210 over the HMP? I guess, straight up, I'm trying to find out: would you play the i210 or HMP and why? Lastly, in your opinion which one has the most functional 4-iron? i210 or 921 HMP (launch & descent angle)? I know this is an important topic for you and wanted to see if you have any data on that as well. I know they're both great 7-irons but which set has the better 4-iron? Thanks for the great content in your videos ! This is super helpful !!
Hi Steve, thanks for the detailed comment. To answer as best I can I would say that there isn't much between the HMP and the i210 on pure forgiveness. Feel I would actually give it to the i210. Although the HMP would start to dominate in the forgiveness stakes when we come to the longer irons with peak heights and descent angles greater with the HMP. Looks wise I actually prefer the slightly slimmer look of the i210 comp to the HMP. I'd be tied not knowing which ones I would choose. Both have redeeming features not quite present in the other. Although for the 4 iron it would have to be HMP. Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍
@@AskGolfNut Thanks for the reply. I never thought the i210 is close to the HMP in forgiveness. I guess if the i210 4-iron was functional enough (descent angle around 45 degrees) I would take it over the HMP because I think the scoring irons would be better in the i210. I would love to see these 2 against the new P770. A long iron comparison for height and launch/descent angle and the shorter irons for dispersion. Other reviewers say the P770 4-irons goes sky high, which is promising. But I don't know if I've ever seen you review Taylormade. One can only hope. I love your content and keep going !!!
Yep I fit Mizuno, also have the opportunity to see what different number irons look like as I keep all my media youtube equipment for my clients to use once I'm finished with it. All manufacturers use the basic 7 iron to fit with but its much better for the person being fitted if they can see what other irons in the same set look and feel like. I'm based at Bury Golf Range in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk 👍
I would like to see the same type of face mapping across the range of irons from blades to game improvement. Do we really get more forgiveness from game improvement irons or are we just changing launch conditions.
There definitely is difference between the game improvement irons to pure blades. Although not probably as much as you would think. The largest difference is to the ability to launch and additional ball speed due to face tech.
@@AskGolfNut I asked because I never believed the difference was very big but of course the data didn't exist to know for sure. At least the data wasn't available to the pubic. I did think it was funny when Chris Voshall said in another video your data was really close to what they already knew. Thanks again for being curious enough and all the work it took to bring out this kind of information.
I was fit for the 919 and had to get the replaced with the 921s. Are they close enough to warrant a refit or should my specs for 919 work with the 921s
They possibly would do, however for the sake of what would be half an hour just to check your shaft spec on Swing DNA and also to check dynamic lie on a GCQuad, I'd definitely make sure that your new purchase is absolutely properly spec'd correct 👍 Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍
That's not "going right". People scream and squirrels move round to the back side of the tree when I go right. As a slow swinger I cringe when I see 29 or 30 degrees on a 7i. I currently play a 23 year old seat of GI irons (X-12'a) where my 7i loft is 33 deg. I just cant give away that loft.
Best guess would be the how the new more flexible face flexs offset to the ball CG creating a small amount of vertical gearing, brand new fresh face against the slightly older 919 (although only used indoors so still in very good condition) and extra ball speed which always adds a touch of spin. It's a small amount but still measurable and every little helps 👍 Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍
Yep you can bend them up to 31 for the 7 iron and crank them to 27, basically 2 degrees either way, it'll just effect the bounce and offset of the club. Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍
@@AskGolfNut Thanks for the immediate response. I asked, because I wanted to know how flexible the set is when it comes to individual gapping adjustment. Bending to weaker lofts results in more bounce and less offset ? Would 1° be noticable ?
