The serial did have a great comic value but casting could be far better and appropriate as also direction and acting especially in so far as certain characters are concerned.Barry evans suited perfectly and so did the actors who played Giovanni ,Juan,Taro and Su Lee.But Ali and especially Ranjit were total misfits.More importantly Albert Moses looked not an iota like a Sikh and also acted a south India accent which a Sikh would never do.

I like the inspector episode because it’s a great example of how the show actually makes more fun of the English characters than anyone else. Mr.Brown is always making a fool of himself, but it’s always lighthearted and funny, unlike how media treats white male characters today.
I haven't seen any of his other films and series but judging from that one episode in season 1 where he imagined growing up as Sid's son, I could tell he was born to act. He became a completely different person with that character. There wasn't a trace of Mr Brown at all. We truly lost a talent.
Suu Lee cracks me up so badly she is missing all the lls in R.. when she reads so funny 😁 Political/ Poritical We have aglee to differ suu Lee please this is too much l can't stop laughing 😆 😂 🤣
That Inspector should have been a regular. He was funnier and a more interesting character than the others they added later (Hungarian man and Ingrid).
For those of you who wish to cry racism and xenophobia watch and learn. This is a show essentially about people being welcomed into our country and being helped to settle by improving their language skills. They are all treated with respect by the teaching staff and while the stereotypes maybe a little dated the jokes are by and large puns and plays on words. I mention this because I am sick and tired of spotty individuals assuming that these were dark times and everybody was nasty to everybody else. Simply not true. It wasn’t non existent, but it isn’t today either. We never threatened to deport anyone to Rwanda back then.
Excuse me young man...¡Sí, señora! Are you in Mr. Brown's class? ¿Por favor? Mr. Brown's class? ¿Por favor? Mr. Brown's class, Brown, Mr. Brown? ¡Ah, sí!, Juan Cervantes, para servirla, señora. He is unbeatable, so hilarious, es un crack 😂😂😂😂😂
One of the best shows I used to watch in my childhood during the 90s. The life of Barry Evans (Jeremy Brown) was kinda tragic. His mother abandoned him when he was 2. He had to resort to being a taxi driver to make ends meet. His car was stolen a day before his death in his early 50s. His death was most likely due to suicide.
I think those who do not like "Mind Your Language" don't care about our World. Why? Because this is how it feels like if you are learning English. We try and try and try again until we eventually get it. We have classes like this one in Moncton offered my MAGMA and they are doing great integrating immigrants. ❤❤❤
China was going through so much at this point with the terrible violent outbursts, being encouraged by Chairman Mao! The Japanese had probably already left China by then, which is why the interaction between the Chinese and Japanese students is bittersweet! If I have my historical facts wrong please do correct me.
Yes-it is the result of an extremely horrific relationship, peppered with a phenomenal amount of bloodshed and torture, committed by the Japanese towards the Chinese whilst the former occupied China! Many English Prisoners of War were also captured by the Japanese, and tortured so badly that it beggars belief! At the end of day I have learned you need to forgive! What terrible pain there is in this world!
Why do you ask someone if they are dark while its obvious that they are? You are not making sense. Also you are the one overthinking it, being dark is not a bad thing therefore no one will get offended by it, it is what you say after saying that. To me it sounds like you are the one with a problem.
