ANC Vet League president Zikalala: Coalition with DA - sure. With EFF - absolutely no way.

  • South Africa will need all the cool heads it can access over the few months as the country moves towards the watershed 2024 National Election, where its long-time rulers are likely to lose their Parliamentary majority. One-time Robben Islander and former MD of News at the national broadcaster Dr Snuki Zikalala, weighs in with a hopeful message to counter those predicting chaos. Zikalala was this week re-elected president of the ANC Veteran’s League, which he explains is the most important of the movement’s three fundamental structures. In this powerful interview, Zikalala argues that popular opinion and even pundits like RW Johnson are wrong about the far-left EFF being the ANC’s “natural partner” - explaining why, post-2024, it would be impossible for the two parties to enter into a governing coalition. On the other hand, provided pre-conditions are met, he is confident a coalition between the ANC and the Democratic Alliance, the official opposition, would work in the national interest. Controversial within some quarters, but Zikalala has never been afraid of rocking the boat. His message offers an inside track into thinking within the ANC, and is sure to be welcomed by moderates hoping for a post-2024 turnaround in the country’s flagging fortunes. He spoke to Alec Hogg of BizNews.

A strong & prosperous South Africa depends on the Unity of the diverse sectors of its society. In the 3 decades, the ANC as a governing party worked faithfully in dividing than uniting our nation. So it should not feature in the new government to be formed. Let the coalition of current opposition parties form a government, as the ANC is pushed into the opposition benches. The ANC created most of our problems so they can't provide solutions.

Its a genuine privilege listening to Dr Zikalala - I have immense respect for the generation of party leaders who endured and overcame when things were at there worst. The EFF must remember South Africa was liberated by the ANC not the EFF - the opportunity for a crazed revolution has come and gone and the issues that are paramount in 2023 are service delivery, uplifting people, respecting the law and applying the constitution, not racism and genocide. The EFF may pretend to value the first 2 but not the last 2.......they can only bring negativity to the table and Malema's "messiah" complex is utterly self indulgent. Does the EFF really think they can run the country better than the oldest political party in Africa ? A party that defeated the colonialism of Anglo American and the oppression of the National Party - does Malema really believe his own private vendetta against the ANC is correctly & justly rooted (?) because that is the REAL reason he created the EFF. South Africa needs everyone to WORK TOGETHER with the best upstanding intentions............we need those old ANC values & morals Dr Zikalala talks about !

I cannot tell you which country are they servicing, honestly I have no idea. I would have loved to hear him talking about the country(South Africa) than the ANC. The country is in dire straits but these people keep talking about themselves. Their organisation is one of the political parties in this country, they are not South Africa themselves. Is this the mindset that drives them to sell this country to foreign nationals than to look after it. What could be his response to I'll-treatment meted against whistle blowers regarding state of affairs in their administration in every department. After all EFF is their offspring. Tell me your friends, I will tell you your future. That storm is over Sir, we're talking saving the country today. Tell us about your role in there. South Africans need their country back. Yeah, he does seem nice, but he's far from sensible. Listen to the way he talks about what the rest of us call "state capture"... he calls it counter-revolution. He doesn't see those people as opportunists who were using the ANC's grip on power to enrich themselves, instead he sees them as infiltrators who were trying to harm the ANC. Look at the way he talks about the virtues of the the National Democratic Revolution, or the way he praises cadre deployment, only finding fault with the quality of the cadres that were deployed.
I'm afraid the problem is not that there aren't enough that think the way he does... I think it's quite the opposite. The party is full of people who share his ideology and utopian delusions, and they are so blinded by their misguided faith in it, that they can't see that it's those very ideas and beliefs that have gotten us into this mess in the first place.

Opposition parties must put away differences , come together and dislodge the ANC from all positions. If they continue to be selective on who they want on their coalitions, the ANC will continue to be in power. The DA should stop this illusion that they can remove the ANC with their minority partners without the EFF. If the DA prefers the ANC, that will be the end of DA, mark my word!!!

Talk is cheap, but money buys the whiskey + we all know the purse is so threadbare, it's like a sieve - money just falls right through it into all sorts of dubious accounts.
The triparthd alliance is the forunner of the coalition principle - so if a party to such a alliance strikes against the rest of it, it should tell us something. But in sunny SA it is just another day in weird + wonderful paradise.
Personal issues can be resolved in no time - just flash some notes. Mbeki got dumped that way, CR 17 says that's how zooma got the boot, so did ADR.
Law enforcement these more often than not starts off as publicity events. Expecting positive outcomes from the Zondo Comm, is another pipedream. The zondo commission will be of historical value - chances that it will add anything to joe doe's life are minus nil.

What ever this county will try to do to get solutions for South Africa unless we change the mindset when we vote , not voting emotional but vote with clear mindset ,as Zikalala said yes South Africans to solve this problems the country has to work together all parties must work together for the benefit of people of South Africa not to try score political points I think though we have too many political parties which some of them they do not add any value to the progress of the country only making a lot of noise with no helping any cause of action.

The ANC and DA both have experienced in governing a country or a province. Now we don't speak about Good or Bad just governing. We are not ready for Instability and great uncertainty as most of these other African countries are facing. We are already crippling or battling with unemployment, high crime rates, corruption and loadshedding and basic services delivery issues. We don't have time for SMALL POLITICS and silly comments of youngsters who are just there to fill their own pockets. E.g. We are not supporting the Springboks it's a racist logo and colour, we support rugby but not the Springboks. Let's put the people first in the name of the almighty and join hands. I really think the time of One Party ruling this beautiful country is Over. It's time for coalition governments and the time is now let change this country for the best. The ANC is looking for a partner who have moral ethics and integrity, respect the rule of law and know how to govern and putting the people first. That big brother is the DA and its moonshot partners. The DA is running the Western Cape SUCCESSFULLY and it looks like you enter another country if you enter the Western Cape or CA. I believe the ANC and DA can take this country from strength to strength and from power to power. If we don't do that there will be alot of policy shift and unnecessary uncertainty and madness in this country. The thiefs is also there to loot as they have loot the VBS bank and fill their own pockets. Pensioners will sit WITHOUT a pension. BE Careful for these Boys. Rather the devil's you know than the devil you don't know. Amandla for Cyril Ramaphosa and John Steenhuisen. Cyril for president and John for one of his Deputies with Herman Mashaba as the minister in the presidency.

I like how people say the ANC has done nothing right for 30 years… they took an embargoed, dying economy and brought solid economic growth for 12 years.. they brought mass amounts of international investment to SA. They prevented SA from entering a bloody civil war. There were wonderful minds within the ANC. They’ve all been pushed out, died or retired. The ANC of today is not even a shadow of its former self. Quite a tragedy, but the same thing seems to happen to most liberation movements turned government.

Wants a whole bunch of good things but there's precious little in the ANC to give it substance. They really are a 3rd grade political party.
