- Our first rehearsal of "Butterfly Kiss" (Takemi's Clinic Music) from Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 5, composed by Shoji Meguro, and this version arranged by Patrick Bartley.
Takemi is bae... AHEM ERM, ANYWAY, Here's our long-awaited cover of Butterfly Kiss! This one has been in our queue for over a year now, and we're happy to finally do it. It's also surprisingly one of the most difficult tunes we've had to do (pardon the instances of mistakes that may show up)! But this was the first time any of the band has seen the chart, and we did one take immediately after running through it with only 10 minutes left of studio time - so considering that, I'd say they've done a great job!
We love the change in pace this song offers from the songs we normally cover. It opens up even more possibilities for us to, well, be jazz musicians lol. Once again, you hear from Pat on alto and Aaron on guitar, and also, wait for it... a BASS solo (gasp) from our man Brad Miller - the "bass player's bassist". You'll hear all you want to hear from him, nothing flashy, just all groove and nice lines on the low end; but don't be fooled, he's quite experienced, and packs a punch...

Wooo! After nearly a year, we're finally back with another Persona 5 session, and as you can probably already tell, this one is certainly bigger and better than ever before. While we're still learning and getting better at our production skills, we put a lot of time, effort, and hard work into making this session what it is. We're most notably featuring new guests and collaborations for this one in ways that we've never done before, but most importantly, this session was unique because all of you in the community who've been standing by us no matter what. We couldn't have done this without you. Here's to the future!

So no joke I was like "pick a number 1 to 7" to my friend the other day, because i just beat p5 and wanted to have her randomly pick my ng+ romance option, rather than me picking kawakami again.
1. I accidentally made Takemi number 4 (which in japanese is written similar to die/death)
2. She picked 4.
So I am now going from Kawakami to Takemi.
Considering the high praise both get, and what I know of their characters from what I already did, I think they are tied for bestgirl status.

“This is my personal favorite track in Persona 5. It starts in a quadruple rather like an irregular meter, then turns into triple meter in the chorus, but while the meter goes back in the bridge the rhythm stays at triple meter. It’s a strange track, but I think that its feminine melody expresses Takemi’s feelings well.”
Huh. "Feminine melody"? Now that's an interesting thought. Where did you find this?
Same place I read that the main instrument used in "Price" is a synthesized version of a west Asiatic tribal instrument called a zurna. :)
The "feminine melody" might be a word choice when translating but I believe Shoji Meguro is anthropomorphizing his song to describe the tone he was going for when composing a song for the shady yet alluring back alley doctor.
It's a translated interview where Shoji Meguro and Toshiki Konishi share some of their thoughts on each track for Persona 5.
I always enjoy reading a composer's insight on what they make.
And I certainly did enjoy reading the description in this video and your other covers of P5 songs. Please keep it up! You guys look like you're having a blast in the studio!

In the article of the site I linked, the author who was very kind to translate Shoji Meguro's "soundtrack liner notes" or composer comments, cites his source from a Reddit user who provided the original soundtrack liner notes.
"Courtesy of Reddit user Om_Badai, here are the Persona 5 Original Soundtrack liner notes (or composer comments) on each song, translated into English and copied with permission for your reading pleasure. Om_Badai is an Japanese/English translator living in Tokyo who passed the JLPT 1 in 2010. We have edited the translation for readability while aiming to respect both translator and authorial intent."
Please read it if you haven't already! It's very interesting and it made me appreciate the soundtrack even more.

I was super worried about them getting the drum part right, but the man nailed both the actual chart and the sound.
Dude, he nailed it like two times better than the original, its insane! He's playing so much more active without breaking the mood he just became my favorite drummer.
Especially the bell ride sound at the chorus part. That 3/4 time in original was really good sounding and he makes it even more catchy.

That is some of the tightest drumming I've ever heard
I had trouble placing the song and as soon as the sax came in I felt a wave of chill come over me as I immediately remembered.
The blend of the sax and the guitar on every note is divine.

Takemi's theme is amazing on its own and you remix it and made me fall in love with it (and her) all over again. I am only sad that it this just now popped up on my recommended. she's the best only tied to Kawakami to me
So inspiring. Y'all's versions of these songs convey so much additional feeling. Anyone who played the games will have their own memories with these tunes, but these stand on their own. I've subscribed, and look forward to whatever you put out next!
