tbh "girl crush" concept don't work on a lot of groups ESPECIALLY new groups i wish they went with a femme fatal concept since i can really see it in them
They debut younger and younger. A femme fatal groupe with the members age between 14-19…it’s not gonna happen.
Girl Crush is the safest concept one can use on minors without it looking too creepy despite having the girls look older due to the style.
So they’re milking it.

I was really disappointed in
MEOVV’s debut. From the introduction trailer with the cats, I was expecting a mysterious/intimidating concept like purple kiss or dream catcher. From the teaser, the loud “yah-yah-yah” irritated me a bit but I shook it off and still had my hopes up 😭.I also feel like it’s too early to have a song about bragging how rich you are 😭Like chill, you just debuted. Teddy really setting the girls up.

As someone else has pointed out in a different video related to this topic, I'm tired of companies giving 5th gen groups sub-par releases (in particular debut songs) that don't showcase the full-extent of a group's talent. It's almost like my interest in a group nowadays has to heavily depend on their potential to become a great artist rather than on them releasing great music from the get go. This is why unfortunately, I still mostly listen to 3rd and some 4th gen groups even though I'd be happy to get into newer group if they release music that appeals to me.
If you don't mind me asking...and please, I'm not trying to be a smart ass here- by what qualifications do you evaluate this music as "sub par"?, aside from your personal taste in music. I mean, can you give me a technical breakdown of why this song is inferior? Let me say, I heard what was said in the vid...and I've already dismissed it as nothing more than personal opinion
@@Briarpatchlogic Considering how the competition between girl groups is so tight nowadays as they're dominating the kpop scene, Meovv's release doesn't particularly stand out creative direction wise or music wise imo.
I've stated in another video that it would've been interesting if they had taken on the aesthetics of I've's "Baddie" but with a Black Label interpretation of it. I think that their teaser with the pierced paw would've been a cool motif to build up on. Furthermore, I actually think that their group being associated with the imagery of a cat is a nice idea as cats are multifacted animals in symbolism. They're often portrayed as fierce, alluring, mysterious as well as playful and cute - words that the members perfectly embody due to their teen crush visuals and their confidence. It would be great if their company used the dual nature of a cat to establish the group's concept as having a light and dark side similar to Blackpink's pink and black side.
Even though the song wasn't for me, I will say the members' vocals sounded lovely in the prechorus and their stage presence during perfomances is nice to see. The girls all definetly have the 'it factor' due to their charisma.
@Reve-to-the-V I certainly appreciate that input...and I will take it into consideration. I think I have a somewhat more lenient opinion of the music however. I found that by listening to the song without the distraction of the M/V...it worked much better for me. But again, thank you!

I feel like they copied the supermodel concept so hard. LSF did not invent it either I know but no one can deny they made it popular again in late 4th gen and made it their own and still use it. Meovv not only does the same concept but they do it worse… LSF has their fearless element and talk about being unique and themselves among other things, whereas Meovv just look like they are just making a watered down version of LSF concept which makes sense with their watered down 2ne1/bp/barmon music. Nothing about them is original enough to be interesting
3/5 of them were child models. they were brought up into the model mindset, so obviously they don't know much else
i don't see the supermodel concept at all. i see them as models bcs some of them are actual models hahaha. and they are talented idols at the same time which is cool. there is nothing copying about it.
I mean, if they wanted to copy 9Muses, The Black Label should have just done that.
There are a lot of reasons as to why I don't seem to fully like the song, but I think there are two main ones. The first and major drawback is that the song, in my opinion, feels really empty. Instead of using some interesting instrumental they use the "yah yah" over and over. The second reason is that most of their lyrics are in english so I instantly notice how weird and nonsensical they are. I don't really need a song to have deep meanings, but paired with the lackluster instrumental I get kinda lost. It really makes me sad because I genuinely could see myself enjoying the song if some little changes were made. But since the formula is always the same and instead of adding they seem to retract more and more elements, I'm just left disappointed. I still listen to the song, but only if I'm in a very specific mood.

Honestly, the themes that will fit this group is self-love, empowerment and coming of age from teenage years. The girl crush is kind of played out by Blackpink already in that label.
More than self love I think empowerment and relatability.
Imagine them singing about the expectation to be pretty but if you own your prettiness and feel yourself then you're stuck up.
Imagine the message being confidence in something you have worked hard for or work hard to maintain should not require others permission, most especially strangers. Being and staying pretty requires a lot of effort, so go ahead and feel yourself. After all, it wasn't easy to get to that point
We all know this is a common but stupid issue, look pretty amd handsome at all cost, then pretend you are not.
They could sing about the perils of working hard and making sacrifices ro realize a dream
The could sing about changing yourself and chasing a love interest then realizing your own value (because I am sick of all these male-centered/my love interest in greater than me songs
They can keep their girl crush and add a bit of unbothered/ennui attitude
@asurborn1 that will work as well. I can see it working in their favor and standing out from the new groups. Plus, their choice beats needs to change a bit as well, but we all know who's responsible on that part I can't blame them on that.
tbh when i first saw meovv member reveals and trailers it felt like i was watching a le sserafim homage. only different from meovv and le sserafims debut song was that, fearless talks more about how they want to be the change, the bad bitch and fearless performers who doesnt go with the standards and desires to be at the top. and then theres meovv's debut... just a bunch of im rich, im hot, im big your not, haters gonna hate, and yeahyeahyeah. like wtf are they flexing??? they literally just started. like couldnt teddy right them a song that didnt even start off with flexing when theres nothing to flex yet???

This type of lyrics and short outfits have become so normalized in K-pop that I no longer know when to be alarmed. The moment I see a slightly suggestive lyric or a somewhat unusual dance move, I get worried, but I see that people take it as something normal... I don't know anymore when it's right or wrong, or if I'm overreacting😭😭
@hyuncute It's definitely a normalized thing that's not necessarily okay. Had this been any other group with minors, this would've definitely been more of an outrage. Again, it's not blunt, but it doesn't have to be to be considered mature.

I don’t mind the girl crush concept when well done, it’s just not currently trendy. Groups like New Jeans, Le Sserafim, Illit, etc. have received a lot of attention and hype for their “fresh” approaches but it’s really just a resurgence of Y2K inspired styles, manic pixie dream girl/stargirl influences, and maximalism appreciation. Cool is out, quirky is back in. It’ll shift again in the next five plus years. 😂

You know,it’s funny because the first thing I thought when I watched the debut trailer the first thing I thought was “the high fashion concept reminds me of lesserafim” but the mv proved me wrong.I don’t wanna sound like I’m personally attacking the girls,but the mv looks so cheap,the sets feel so closed off and small,it kinda even makes it feel a bit suffocating,along with the song it feels kind of empty.I can think of groups who have better music videos for their b-sides
I personally always kinda dislike yg mvs because they focus more on individual takes more than the grupal ones, and the black label is DOING THE SAMEE, if you watch fearless, there are of course individual takes, but the choreography, takes with all the members doing whatever, are also very present, and that's what I like... I feel like if you don't have nice sets for the individual takes and it's all what you have to offer... is looks cheap 😭

its only one song so far. i really hope that their concept has more of bigfoot and the nonhumans at the start of the mv. kind of like a post-apocalyptic dystopian mythology (?) kinda thing

I think this is just a huge Kpop trend. Many companies are scared shitless to take risks. They prefer to commit to factory made formulas and do a lot of " better safe than sorry's"

I really respect BABYMONSTER with their producer CHOICE37 to have a comeback like FOREVER because that actually solidifies their IDENTITY despite their debut song, FOREVER is something that owns BABYMONSTER and not BLACKPINK and they earned their respect because its more vocal heavy tone and not the recycled formula.
Now comparisons are necessary because you are a listener
MEOVV's debut song is just another debut song similar to BABYMONSTER's BATTER UP where its so predictable carbon copy paste song. Which is the vibe I am getting at MEOVV's too. I am willing to wait for another comeback that truly give them original IDENTITY because I can think of other kpop groups singing MEOW and wouldn't even realize its a debut song.

YG himself selects trainee who is aware of unique vocal tone. Which is why both BLACKPINK, 2ne1, and BABYMONSTER have members who you can easily identify when eyes closed. MEOVV on the other hand, it sounds like 2 or 3 idols are singing because the vocal tone is easy to hear yet no one stands out. Dance line is amazing all of them is good but it lacks the ability to differentiate who is who.
Watch their stage performance on KBS, based on their performance all I hear is 4 rappers with one vocalist.

I dont think the issue is the old formula. The song is just lacking in to many aspects. There is no memorable melody, no catchy parts, no reasons to listen to it again. Just my opinion but they can have the yg style but the sound is just bland. Its really disappointing but i still think they have potential
My only problem with their debut song was I didn’t like the “ya ya ya” or “meow.” It just seemed a little cringy in my opinion, like they were filming some TikTok song and tried to appeal to fifth graders…

No, I do not want the boy groups scrutinized more closely. I think it might ease the intense stress of the girl groups to have less expectations placed on them - especially the unrealistic ones.

I would doo a video about debuts i love... but groups aren't debuting with songs I like... now I try to make an opinion video of every relevant song that is released, but i don't know if there are any debuts near :( and I used to be bg stan, but now my favs are majority gg and it's hard for me to listen to new boy groups (not cute boys that are my favs 💗)

When I feel that the most well-received song from Babymonster is “Forever” the only song that strays from that concept...
It's not onomatopeoias... An onomatopoeia in song is stuff like singing 'bam' as a sound effect when you slam something. As an illustrator that's working on a comic, all I can say is that you've got it wrong.
However, I agree with the repetition and can I just say how annoying the constant 'meowmeowmeow' sound effect was? It sounded close to being nails on a chalkboard worthy, which is such a shame as I was looking forward to the debut.
Honestly their debut was the most lackluster thing I have ever heard. Five writers, one being Teddy. Five producers. And I get a song that sounds like nothing.

honestly, I was hoping for some kind of cat themed cute concept considering they're called meovv and the song is called meow, and it would've stood out a bit more than something THIS generic
The only reason why I rewatch the music video is because of the catchy choreograph for the song.

There's nothing wrong about their debut and song but Teddy needs to do a better job in showcasing their individuality. We already have IVE for the "I'm rich and better than you" vibe and lyrics and the "watch me succeed" lore is getting boring. They need something that sets them apart beyond their model-like visuals.
Even if girlcrush isn't exactly the most trendy right now, it really did boil down to how they didn't sell the concept tbh. SO MUCH expectation and anticipation was built up. It was kinda surprising how I didn't feel anything because their visuals are OUTSTANDING but even the live stage presence was lacking, except Sooin who did manage to catch my eye. I mean it's still early days, if the comeback is good, they might succeed.
lol that rap sounds like a dr.Seuss rhyme, the group is wack. It feels empty because the girls weren’t being introduced with personality just pretty faces, that’s it. This make me appreciate other groups more that have unique storytelling and music.

The first mistake was the name... they should change it to VVEOW... Meovv backwards and tell their fans what the veow to do and how they veow to be different (the cookie-cutter music) but relatable as people and actually sing about things that matter to the general public.
They should get rid of the hideous cat paw.
