  • When Jonah Hill first broke onto the scene, he was instantly a name to watch in the comedy scene. Starring in both cult classics and big studio successes like The 40 Year Old Virgin, Grandma's Boy, and Superbad, Jonah Hill a rising star, but most people saw him as the funny, fat, sidekick most of the time. After his co-lead in Superbad, he decided to make a change, and starring in Moneyball alongside Brad Pitt would be a launching pad to the next level of Hollywood Success.

I actually feel so bad for him for being criticized for his weight loss. It should be celebrated that he is healthier and landing good roles.

Seriously, I'll never understand people getting shit talked for losing weight and getting healthier, both bettering and extending their lives.
My dad and step mom have both lost around 50lbs in the past year and it makes me so happy to see them looking better, feeling better, and overall being healthier.

For me the problem is the need to lose weight in order to get better roles. Yes, I'm m really happy that he's healthier. But thin being the body type that lands 99% of the main roles in media often leads to eating disorders in actors.
As a doctor I've recently treated a teen actress with an eating disorder and it breaks my heart. She claims that unless she's thin she'll be relegated to supporting roles and I can't say that's not true...

    • @martskione

That’s the price tag for egocentric ventures. Every actor/actress knows this whether they want to acknowledge it or not. So maybe stay tf away from Hollywood if you can’t handle that aspect of it because you sure as f aren’t going to change it.

I'll never understand the obsession with that. Why would you want to watch somebody- who doesn't care about your existence, or that of money- pretend to be somebody just as "pathetic" as we are? [I post this with reservation. That I may get lost a bit in translation. As I'm from Sweden 🇸🇪]
Not this kind of content to dive deeper into Hill's personal struggle. Both physical and mentally.
But I felt heartbroken when he got all that criticism for getting healtier. And also put a lot of work into the person he is.
Because Jonah was not in a good place for a long time. Mentally, he was struggling daily. Keeping up with his funny guy image.
Then! People suddenly trashtalked him. As if he deserted some of the "bodypositivity" people that had identified with his characters he played. I know he did get hurt from all the criticism. But I'm so glad he could get past all that.
Jonah is a great actor. A great human being.
And I'm proud to say I'm a fan of Jonah.

It was the type of role which is usually reserved for "serious actors" who can also be funny. A la Robert Downey Jr, Brad Pitt, Leo, etc. For Jonah to be given the opportunity meant that Scorsese trusted him to play that role in his over-arching narrative. Not just to be the funny fat guy flailing around on screen.

It's interesting how DiCaprio also took a paycut to work on a Scorcese film to define himself as a serious actor.

Nick kroll wasn’t forgettable in that movie. The whole movie in itself was forgettable.

If only he wasn't such a controlling creep. Those leaked texts from his surfer girlfriend were very concerning

Jonah hill was one of the only males criticized for his appearance almost as much as women in Hollywood. But he was always blended crass and charismatic ……now he is less crass more leading man - loved you people lol

It pains me to know that actors suffer for being casted as beloved characters that entertain us.

I think it was not honest to pay him 60k for a movie. He was phenomenal in the Wolf of Wall Street. .. as a fat & funny sidekick! He was amazing at War Dogs & im so happy he lost weight and being a director now.
