I think her unique design will keep her in service for many years. She was years in the future when she was built. Combine her systems and the Mark Barkers hull, and we have the future of Great Lakes shipping. My opinion.
But how does it handle in the wide open water / weather? Compared to “traditional “ bridge forward that is 🤷♂️ … 🤔 wonder if the fitz met the same fate if her bridge was aft? 😲🤷♂️ jus’ thinking out loud 😆🤣
Yes. It has happened several times. Also, in the early 1900s Wolvin launched several vessels with no christening at all. See my video: ruclips.net/video/q5OwHwz-EPo/видео.html
Accepted definition 👍 a few meanings are possible not to mention pronunciations, 😝🤣😆 ✌️🤙 🤷♂️ jus’ saying , when the dog takes me for a walk he takes me down to the crooked river 😀
Supposed to be a re-release of my late 1990s Mysteries and Histories in the spring. Meanwhile I'm working on book 21, which is turning into a good read. The stories are very obscure.
Be it’s getting near Christmas I have a video idea for you ,have you ever heard of the fascinating story of the Christmas tree ship on the Great Lakes ?
Actually there were 3 Christmas tree vessels that were lost over the years. The reason why everyone concentrates on the SIMMONS is because Boyer wrote about her in his 1966 book "Great Stories of the Great Lakes." In fact that same family lost an earlier vessel doing the same job.
Wow! That is beyond cool. My home is also in a "tourist" area. I like to say it's great to live in a place where people come for vacation. We'll have lunch on the deck overlooking the water and I tell my wife, "Right now some tourist's paying good money for this."
One of my favorites. We were on our way back from Oshkosh and that was the week that the BADGER's dock failed, so I had to drive rather than enjoy a cool passage across Lake Michigan. Lucky my daughter was with me to do half of the driving.
Wes, you are a treasure to boatnerds everywhere.👍
Gee... I try. Thanks!!
This was so enjoyable it was over before I thought it should be...
LOL... I thought it was a bit too long. Glad that you enjoyed it.

Could be.

Sure would love to see photographs of the engine room and the two engines.

She's powered by EMD diesel generators, which basically makes her a Lake Train.
That was fun, great video Wes!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Wes, always enjoy your videos . Been reading your books for many decades now
Awesome, thank you!
That is a neat looking ore freighter! Thanks for sharing the history and the video you took of the boat. This was a very interesting tutorial.
Thank you very much!
Great video Wes, in my opinion the Great Republic is one of the best looking boats on the lakes
It really is!

Wes so I got one of your books a few days ago and thanks for signing it
Hope you enjoy it!
Love your videos you make some great content!
Glad you like them!
Thanks Wes. So in your studies do you ever see other situations where they wait a long time before a new ship is christened?
Yes. It has happened several times. Also, in the early 1900s Wolvin launched several vessels with no christening at all. See my video: ruclips.net/video/q5OwHwz-EPo/видео.html
As always, a great video, Wes. FWIW Cuyahoga is an Indian name meaning crooked river. Definitely fits.
Interesting!

6:49 what is that ship on the left and it's line please. I can't find an image of the stack with a readable name for the line. Thank you.

@@authorwes Thank you.
Good stuff Mr. Wes. Got any new books coming out?

It doesn't have the classic design, But it's still a neat Freighter.
I went right by this Wes. I thought it was a Paul S video out of Duluth
Glad you came back and found me.

Glad you think so!
Hi Wes!
Hello, hello... Got ya' on the channel.

@@authorwes ah cool I didn’t know that
You're standing about 200-300 yards West of my parent's house, in the opening 😂

Not my favorite ship but certainly underrated and under appreciated. I am actually going to be applying to Interlake Steamship in a few weeks.
Go for it!
Great intro 😂
Nobody says this can't be fun eh?
@@authorwes best part is… when you hear someone say doofus you can honestly say HEY watch it there buddy I resemble that remark 😲 🤦♂️🤣🤣 ✌️🤙
