When you get the turntable repaired. Will you also build a new Roundhouse, or small section. And you can sell storage space for other cars and coaches and locos. This will give indoor storage space for your coaches, because like 261 on Minnesota they use mostly their own fleet of coaches then attach other private cars for extra capacity. Also, you can re-develope your property like 2716 in Raveena, Kentucky, with both spaces for the rail museum, and a event space for music concerts; and adapt these ideas 💡 😀 and other to suit your particular needs!! OK 👍, CONGRATULATIONS 🎊 👏 💐 🥳!!!!!
Thank you so much to the dedicated volunteers for their hard work on making their goals become a reality. Never let anyone’s negative opinion change that.
CONGRATULATIONS 🎊 👏 💐 🥳 🎊!! Albuquerque's very hard work is Inspiring me to work on our local Roundhouse, Because we used to have 3 but 2 got torn down during the past 21 years. And this last 1 has the turntable removed. Thus we have to build another. Entirely Brand NEW bridge!! Luckily, we can also expand the diameter slightly by 20', and accommodate longer locomotives of the 4-8-4 type. Now then, say a Prayer, and wish us good luck, ok, thank you!!!!! Sept., 2023A.D. ALL ABOARD,!! HIGHBALL,!!-! (Q).
What kind of turning facilities will be at the other end of the line, Las Vegas, New Mexico, for the 2926 will there be a turntable there too or a wye or a balloon track
That's impressive you boys got it working again! We got a 'tabe, one of the largest ever made, up here that's still working. It's a bitch even with electric motors but it'll hold duel AC44 lokies on spin! It's the last one in MT and it's 130/40 feet, and we still have the whole mallet house to boot! Each leg inside is 350' to fit our R-2 2-8-8-2s which until the big boys arrived were the largest engines ever made.
So whats gonna happen to the old location where your base is currently? Would you move the shed and everything over here and this be your new permanent home?
So personal experience question here. Do y'all have a Bridge Management Plan (BMP) filed with the FRA for the turntable or did BNSF ever do one? They're a weird area in the law but turntables count as bridges under FRA code and you need to have a BMP filed with the FRA in order for it to be compliant. Given the nature of turntables the FRA is more open to waivers for them. A BMP makes you do a structural analysis and come up with a maintenance plan that you have to follow through on which is good to have regardless. I've done one in the past and its a pain but it's not overly difficult especially if you already have all the drawings.
I dont see any need to do that. Its not an electric turntable as is, so converting its from hydraulic to electric and running electricity out too it seems like a big expense for not much benefit.
The question has come up yes. We would rather convert it if we could because the electric moters apparently made the turntable faster and more powerful it just depends if we can do it or not
Ok, here is my dilemma. 1) What is the purpose of restoring the turntable when the likelihood of it ever becoming remotely functional is seemingly impossible; 2) Now the video shows you removing the rails. Are you anticipating rehabilitating the turntable with new rails and ties and spikes? 3) Even if you restore the turntable and use it for what it was designed to do, the entire area is a wasteland and will probably never be restored. It would have been nice to have a demi-roundhouse for 2-4 trains such as the 2926 but I highly doubt this would happen. 4) While the City may support the 2926, there is no real plan for the area where the turntable is. Call me a sentimentalist but I would think that a demi-round house and shop facilities would be a good idea for SOME of the property. That is in case you guys plan to remain on your small patch of land?? Thanks for the video. But all it seems like is further destruction.
Ye have little faith. We wouldn't do something if it had no benefit for 2926 the city and the state. 1) 2926 is a steam locomotive running backwards is very dangerous so she must have a way to turn around in albuquerque and yes the turntable will be functional and we already have certain entities in the railyard who want to use it once its restores 2) yes we wanna replace all the hardware on the turntable for if you stand on certain parts of the deck the ties bend. we have certain ties marked off for no foot traffic. Also the rail has to support 2926 which ways 500 tons. 3) wasteland is the wrong word. Blank slate is a better one we have support from the city and the state to restore the turntable and the surrounding area. 4) there is a document about the area that the says city who owns that part of the railyard does have a plan for it. Document name "Albuquerque Railyards Master Development Plan" its on Google if your interested. And we do plan to set up shop in the railyard but we are simply not at that point yet. Thank you
@davidrubin8228 The NMHR is restoring this turntable, so ATSF 2926 can rotate when necessary. Please stop questioning what this amazing organization is doing. Have you ever volunteered for a non-profit railroad organization? As the NMHR rail said, this turntable and facility will be beneficial for ATSF 2926, the city of Albuquerque, and the state of New Mexico. ATSF 2926 will draw railfans from all over the world to ride behind it on passenger excursion trains and this turntable and facility are necessary for that purpose. Maybe think twice before you comment.

I didn’t know you guys actually have to do this
You gotta tear something apart before you can restore it!

Dang I wonder what the pay is like, I'd help day and night if i was able to afford basic living doing this kind of work.
its all volunteer.
Cool!
why did the rails have to come off before it could rotate 180?
there was once a roundhouse with lots of sections of rail track. was not needed to go all the way around.
The first rail we removed in the video was hanging over to pit so if the turntable did a 180 it would smash into that rail damaging it

Cool video. So why was that one rail laid over the turntable pit?
When santa fe ripped up the roundhouse in the 80s they for some reason ripped up that rail too and so they left it draped over the pit
Are there plans to have the turntable converted back to run on electricity?

Nice work! How long will it take to restore the turntable before locomotive 2926 can roll on to it.
In my opinion a couple years but things have proven to move quicker than we expected In the past
