    typical americans demonizing other cultures. haji firuz dates back to the 600 BCE. the main story is him being rebirthed from the after life, another story is him working in the zoroastrian temples where the ash of the fire got on his face.

    Hagi firoze is based on the Zoroastrian priests. These priests were red and gard a big fire in the middle of temples day and night and because of smoke they face became black. Also the Tambourine he's holding used to be a part of some of Zoroastrian religious celebrations .
    Also some say he has a black face because he's coming back from the land of dead , like the nature that come back to life in spring.

    African Iranians are less than 1% of the population. Because of liberals I'm starting to think that is impossible to have a multicultural country. I mean, a country with blacks and whites. When the culture is rather similar, such as Iran, there is no problem in multicuturalism.... Iran have the Persians, Azeris, Kurds, Mazandaranis, Gilaks, Baluchis, Lors, Arabs, Talish etc. But what Iran doesn't have are the stupid political correctness liberals. Long life to black faced Haji Firouz and to Iranian culture.

    Totally false! Actually Hajji Firuz derived from ceremonies and legends connected to the epic of Prince Siavash, which are in turn derived from those associated with the Mesopotamian deity of agriculture and flocks, Tammuz (Sumerian Dumuzi). Later, it was claimed that the blackened face of Hajji Firuz symbolizes his returning from the world of the dead, his red clothing is the sign of the blood of Siavash and the coming to life of the sacrificed deity, while his joviality is the jubilation of rebirth, typical of those who bring rejuvenation and blessing along with themselves. The name Siyāwaxš mean 'black man' or 'dark-faced man' and suggests that the term black in the name is a reference either to the blackening of the faces of the participants in the aforementioned Mesopotamian ceremonies, or to the black masks that they wore for the festivities.
    In fact Haji Firooz tradition dates back to 600 BCE and contemporary Western colonization and slavery does not in any way, shape, or form correlates to Iranians anti-slavery culture and traditions.

    There are other parts of the song, like:
    - Haaji Firuzam!
    - Baale!
    - Saali yek ruzam!
    - Baale!
    Which means:
    - I'm Haji Firuz!
    - Yes!
    - I come once a year!
    - Yes!
    If Haji Firuz is a depiction of a slave, why does he say he comes once a year? Also, the whole back and forth in the song is anything but a conversation of a slave and a master. It's much more cordial and friendly than that.

  • @chauxg1
    @chauxg1 7 месяцев назад +2

    This rendition of Haji Firuz is completely false. The black face is a symbol of impurity and soot resulting from emerging from underground at end of winter. He also represents the fire keeper for Zorestrians who consider fire to be purifying. They believe Haji Firuz had black face from heat of the holy fire. It has nothing to do with African people or slavery. Instead it has to do with end of impurity and darkness with arrival of spring. Slavery was not practiced in Iran at the time of the origin of this tradition (600 BC) and in fact it was the Persians who were first to liberate slaves and end slavery as the Persian empire spread and conquered people who practiced slavery.

    Thank you for your video. There are other views on this. Firuz is the Arabic version of piruz, piruz nahavandi, the one who killed Omar, the arab Calif who invaded and killed thousands of Iranians and gave rise to slavery by Muslims. Before Arabs, slavery was rare. If you read the Cyrus cylinder of human rights, you'll see that the history of slavery is NOT a long tradition in Iran and it was popularized by what Arabs brought to this country. Haji, is a title given to those who visit mecca. So, haji firuz was a former Iranian warrior who wnt to mecca and killed omar, when Iran was already invaded and ruled by Arab ruler. The news was so overwhelming for iranians,however they could not crlebrate it because of the fear they would get punished. Haji firuz was the disguise to crlebrate this,using the common language of the day,not standard persian, in order not to be understood by arabs easily. the red outfit is historically the symbol of war and protest,as you see in sorkhjamegan. The black face is also the same symbol of riot,as you see in siyahjamegan. And arbab (master) refers to omar who was the one enslaving iranians. The dance and happiness is thus for the assassination of Omar. after many years of brainwashing, the original meaning is lost and people think it is a slave dancing for noruz.

    Typical spewing of misinformation! Haji Firouz was never personifying slavery. There was no slavery time nor practice of in Iran. Symbolism of black faced servant signifies, if there were kitchen attendees cooking on ancient open fire, whose face were deposited with soot while attending to their daily task. If the Persian lyric, ARBOB-E-KHODAM, is what your argument suggests, understand that it is nothing more than endearment toward the hiring individual.

  • @koskooie
    @koskooie 6 месяцев назад

    Furthermore, ارباب خودم (arbob-e-khodam) translates to “my master” that is far from slave owner connotation. And considering the phrase other than just that would imply all the subjects to a king as his slaves.

    "This version is supported by his Nowruz rhyme" - is it? Does "arbab" mean a slave-master in Persian? I don't know which version is true, but this "evidence" seems flimsy to say the least. In Persia many people could be "arbab" and many could call their leaders or respectful figures "arbab", without being a slave. The word has other meanings (which are more common than "owner")
    It is important to get to the truth and stop a tradition if it is racist. But you don't need to read into it that which does not exist or is ambiguous.
    Another point is that slavery did exist in Iran and there were black slaves too. But does nuance matter? Or are we to accept the projection of horrendously inhumane, industrialised Western slavery to Iran now? These are sensitive topics and it is better to address them properly if you took up the task.

      In USA there was slavery and Brits were deporting black people from colonies and in USA blacks are even today been killed by police..In Iran we dont have this kind of history, it is just an old fun tradition has nothing go do with insulting others..I mean I am sorry for the suffering of black people in USA or West but you can't ask iranians to change their customs and culture because of western issues with racism....

      It has nothing to do with y'all lol. It is Persian Zoroastrian origins n has nothing to do with black ppl. It has to do with soot from the fire n Prince Siavash and it 2000 years old before black ppl even knew of Persians.
      Also you being an American Muslim makes it worse considering Americans think everything revolves around them n Muslims always hating on Persians n Persian culture.
