Great show and video. Thanks for sharing. One of my Dad's lifelong dreams was to march with the Caballeros and after he retired, he joined the Alumni Corps, making the 8 hour roundtrip drive from Quincy, Mass. to N.J. and he loved every minute of it. Thanks for giving him that opportunity.
Fantastic Hawthorne my all time favorite drum corps. Now let me say this one time and maybe another time. KEEP THAT SUPER GREAT PHENOMINAL DRUM CADENCE. IT IS SO HEP AND SWINGING,. IT ALSO HAS THE DYNAMIC ONE PART OF THE DRUM LINE CADENCE FULL FORCE POWER AND THEN THE DRUM LINE GETS SOFTER. THIS IS A CLASS DRUM LINE CADENCE. KEEP IT NEVER EVER GET RID OF THAT DRUM LINE CADENCE
Thank you for the kind words, Ray! We have no intention of changing this classic street beat/cadence as long as I'm around! It dates back to 1967, and it's based on the Les Parks drum parts for "Cachita," one of the popular Hawthorne songs from the early 1960's. -- John Smith: Drum Instructor, Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni Corps
I played with Bill's boys, I believed to be one of the very first alumni drum and bugle course, organized bike Bill and Linda Lundy, they also organized and started the Sunrisers drum and bugle Corps. Bill's boys, head members from every famous senior and Junior drum and bugle Corps in the East Coast, I believe Tommy Martin and and Swan or members, plus many other famous drum Coral Hall of Famers. I cannot recall all the names it's my old age period before joining those boys I was out of the activity, for a number of years period was a member of the Long Island Sunrisers 1964 through 1968
if you want to march in a quality alumni drum corps, might as well do it in cabs. takes a huge commitment, i've looked into their requirements, too much for me, but thats why they're so good. + larry kirchner arranging helps a bit (LOL) kidding larry
Loved you guys since the mid sixties when my brother took me to a Baltimore show. Only Corps I’d pay to see if they were the only ones in the show. I wouldn’t go to a competition unless the Cabs was there, competing or exhibition. The uni’s to the strut, the best.
As much as we loved the authentic look and sound of those 15" Ludwig Challengers and Super Sensitives, it was becoming harder to keep them in good working order. Getting rained on at a few shows cause some problems with them, plus their weight was becoming an issue for many of us older members. The new Mair drums we purchased are made of carbon fiber, and are about half the weight of the 15" Ludwigs, which has enabled most of us to keep playing and marching! -- John Smith, Cabs Alumni Drum Instructor
aka: a long bugle with a long slide - it's still brass though - but I know exactly what you mean. Things have definitely changed over the decades (for the good I feel) Been following the Cabs since 1955 show at ASD Stadium - Allentown and I still think they're the BEST . . . . . Rump! !
The fellow playing the trombone is one of our brass instructors and a very long time member of the Caballeros. This was a one time event with him playing the trombone and will never be seen again. He plays the trombone professional outside of drum corps.
@@tjbiker49 since the Inception of DCI in 1972 oh, that was the start of the demise of our once great drum and bugle Corps activity. Former member of the Long Island Sunrisers 1964 through 1968.

@@enricomandragona163 That is fantastic. Enjoy playing this summer!
2024 tenor! It's a life long dream for me. After 41 years, I can proudly say I'm a Cab
NJ, always loved the Cab’s and NY Skyliner’s! Great times in the Bronx. St. Helena’s Crusaders! An era when females could not advance to DCI.

I really love this great corps from Hawthorne. Their music is fantastic without of course the trombone. Regards from the Philippines
We normally don't play a trombone
Love these guys!! Go HAWTHORNE----by the way it is New Jersey NOT New York!! Caballeros are the best of the best!!!
When drum corps was unique to itself and not copying from other entertainment fields.
Why did the filmmaker cut the jungle beat at the end of the show? I like the jungle beats of a corps marching off the field.

I thought I would never ever see the Caballeros use a trombone, so sad !!!
I thought I would never see a Drum & Bugle Corps want to emulate a band.
