      I have to remind myself, the "insta-famous/youtube welders" that I admire and love, NO ONE else knows who they are...unless they are a welder and REALLY into their craft. Lol sorta like, why I have no idea who the world's #1 video game player is, because I dont care about that lol. but I will say, this Matt guy just went up a dozen notches in my book for his content, style, knowledge, thorough explaining, and attitude. Plus I'm a thick aluminum type of guy lol my favorite. Nice job brother!

    For those of us that can't afford an $800 bottle of helium to do a small aluminum project while we have a welder at the house you can use argon. You can start out by taking the TIG torch and without adding wire run a preheat and etching pass down the weld area. Then instead of welding 1/8 inch step at a time. Go two steps forward one step back feed The wire two steps forward one step back feed the wire. It is a lot easier to do what he's doing and he's doing a professional job of it. I have added helium it does make a difference but that will can be made without it if need be.

    You got my interest with the Helium mix and the comparison, but I didn't give it a thumbs up because I felt the video was incomplete. I would have liked to see a sample done with straight argon and preheat to compare with the helium sample. Also it would be nice if you had broken each sample so we could see the penetration in the weld. I would also have liked to see a bit more detail in how you mixed the two gases. One other point to note, your videos are going international, so can I suggest when quoting measurements such as temperature, length, volume and weights, you also include metric units. I don't know what a Ferinheight is ;)

    You'd be much better off with a cylinder of Argon-Helium Mix, either 75% Argon balance Helium, or 60-40, as their is no way to know what your mix is by using a Y connection, as the properties of Helium are different than Argon, it's a crapshoot guessing with a Y valve.
    Regarding preheating aluminum, you need to be very careful in not exceeding 250°, I prefer 200° max, and unless you are using a Tempstik or an LED thermometer you are just guessing at what your preheat temperature is. T6 Temper is done at 350°-400° and if you happen to preheat above 300° you have destroyed the T6 properties before even striking an arc.

      Great suggestion! Prolly because Everlast is basically the only "domestic machine" in U.S. that has it, and it's only on pulse. There a guy called @TigHappens(Johannes) on instagram who has an nice Italian machine which has that feature on it. It's very useful for people who do alot of castings and repair work. Because it allows you to have the penetration of the DC current(helpful on thick cast aluminum) but the cleaning action required to keep puddle relatively clean. People sometimes use amplitude (90%EN/10%EP) to repair cast iron as well, with aluminum bronze. Same concept, just enough cleaning action to help puddle flow and stay clean. Anyway lol take care!

    I'm just learning so I'm asking a question hopefully I'll get an answer I was under the impression that you wanted to keep your balance and your hurts at a certain evenness or at a certain percentage I should say like say 60/40 or you know within I think 20 or so percent of each other I mean in other words I guess you don't want to have like 80 and 80 to work they would rather you have like 80 and the other one will be like you know 50 or you know something like that anyway I might be misunderstanding that I think that this cat right here has explained it better than anybody to me so far of what each one of them does instead of just saying you don't want this to be no more than that and pretty much leave it at that and that's all you know he's just what some guy said he actually told you what it actually does higher hurts means less heat going in and lower hurts means a lot more heat that that's invaluable man I did not even know that so but if you can answer that is there a certain ratio that you want to keep the the balance and the frequency a certain ratio apart from each other I'd appreciate if you could let me know thank you so much for the video learning a lot

      There's really nothing to see. The wire comes off of a spool is covered by a granular type flux you can see an orange glow as it melts. It cools the slag peels up the flux is vacuumed up and recycled. Over and over and over and over it's like watching a tick tock video for eight hours

      @@MrMilky927 I've done brass overlay on a tube sheet 5 ft in diameter 4 in thick with inch and a half wide strip brass. The sub arc for welding vessel seams was sometimes run with a flux strip backing strip, it was sometimes welded on the inside or the outside and back gouged on the other side for a 100% weld. The ones that ran the welder all day had already written up notebooks say for instance half inch plate it would have a setting for a round seam and a straight seam it would call out the bevel it would call out the wire speed it would call out the amperage all the specifications that were needed for that particular weld there are too many variables but that's basically the way it's done.

      @@MrMilky927 if that is your only job is to be a subarc welder it would be boring for me. I do fitting and welding I'm certified on a lot of different kinds of welding I get bored very easily. So I'm better off sticking with the challenges and sub arc welding once in awhile when it's necessary. The night that I sub arced brass for 8 hours with canister respirators on too exhaust fans behind me pushing the smoke away from me and a big wall exhaust fan in front of me pulling the smoke away from me I got galvanized poisoning it felt like I had been beaten with a baseball bat for 3 days I was sick. • @benz-share9058
      @benz-share9058 2 года назад

      Helium has gotten really expensive so these days some of the helium supplied to fill balloons is mixed with a bunch of air or nitrogen. Probably just enough helium to float a balloon for a short time, so that's way too much non-helium to work well for welding.
