Guys I'm so blown away by the response and the amount of suggestions. Keep them coming. If you could see the list I've compiled from everyones request. Its amazing lol! Danke!
You should check: "Sammy Deluxe - Weck mich auf", and after knowing the lyrics watch the version from Xavier Naidoo performing Sammy's song live at the show "Sing my Song". Both epic ✌️😎
AnnenMayKantereit is a must - seeing people's reaction when they first hear Henning May's voice is priceless. Also my 2 cents on listening to German musig: if you have the ability to understand multiple languages, it is a shame if you then don't consume culture in each language. I speak German and English and appreciate the culture in both languages so much. Good for you for engaging in German music without being fluent.
You should definitely listen to die Ärzte. Especially for the lyrics. I was born in the 80s and listen to them was a must on every party. Everyone sang along loudly. I think if you read the translated lyrics you will understand.🙂
Bodo Wartke just went viral with a German Tongue twister Rap, AnnenMyKantereit did great Live Music, Seeed may be for you as you love HipHop and i love Die Ärtze since the 80th so been a Fan from the very first Scandal in TV.
For a good mixture, have a look at AnnenMayKantereit (Busking/Pop/Rock/Ballad), Die Fantastischen Vier (Rap), SEEED (Hip Hop / Reggae) and Die Ärzte or Die Toten Hosen (both Punk Rock)
The German music industry is huge, the songs are mostly in English. But there's a big market for German language music. German Rap: Luciano ("Fendi drip "), Kollegah, Shirin David, Haftbefehl ("069")
What about "Fettes Brot", PUR, Tokio Hotel, Die Prinzen, Deichkind, EAV = Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung (from Austria), Revolverheld, Spider Murphy Gang (from Austria), Mark Forster and so on! Nice time to listen to the music!
I would recommend Seeed as well, they are great! Their lead singer Peter Fox has some good solo songs as well! More german artists: - Annenmaykantereit (rock/pop) - Samy Deluxe (german rap) - Johannes Oerding (singer/songwriter) - SDP (rap/pop) - Die fantastischen Vier (hip hop)
Listen to KIZ if you’re interested in good German rap. KIZ is a boy group from Berlin known for their controversial, sarcastic, dark humour rap but also for talking the truth about taboo themes. They just brought out a new album that talks about the recent political situation, which is called „Görlitzer Park“ with songs like „sensibel“, „Frieden“, „Samstag ist Krieg“ Nonetheless the most famous song of them is probably „Hurra die Welt geht unter“ a feat with Henning May from 2015. Henning May is part of the band Annenmaykantereit which also has lots of worth listening songs. ❤
If you want to react to music i'd like to recommend Finsterwacht by Satatio Mortis (medievil / metal). It is in german, but has good subtitles. Other german / german speaking bands i like to hear SEEED (reggae/dub) Peter Fox Die Ärzte (punk rock) Farin Urlaub (punk) (singer of Die Ärzte) Wir Sind Helden (pop/rock) Knorkator (weird/metal/art) (describe themselfs as "the most band of the world") Die Fantastischen Vier (hip hop) Jan Delay (hip hop/funk) Bodo Wartke (comedian/singer songwriter) Die Toten Hosen (punk rock) Blind Guardian (metal/fantasy) Dendemann (hip hop/rap) Other known german singers/Bands Scorpions Rammstein Nena Ton Steine Sterben Kraftwerk Alphaville Guano Apes (specially Cumba Yo!)
german hip hop and rap culture goes back to the early early 80s, was huge during the end of the 90s and got HUGE HUGE in the early 2000s. it is a big big part of german culture!
"Wir sind Helden | Nur ein Wort | English Subtitles & Original Lyrics" - ruclips.net/video/F6U95jORkNc/видео.html "Wir sind Helden" means "We are heroes" | "Nur ein Wort" means "Only one word" Original in German ruclips.net/video/X5kmM98iklo/видео.html
When it comes to German rap, I can recommend "Deichkind". Their title "Limit" was huge back in the day. "Ich betäube mich" is a great party song. "Illegale Fans" my personal favorit. I want to recommend "Lakmann" as the underdog with his track "Dieselbe Tradition" - super chill, you will like it. My daily music taste is mostly synthwave and heavy metal, so I can´t really recommend anything for you. Silbermond - B96 is worth a try.
Biggest German artist of the 80s/90s is Herbert Groenemeyer and his rival Marius Müller Westernhagen. First popular German Hip Hoppers where the Fantastischen Vier. Germany is Europes biggest music market, so we have a Ton of music. Some of my favorites are Peter Fox, Wir sind Helden, Electric Callboy, Feuerschwanz, Saltatio Mortis...
Fantastischen 4,Beginner,Samy Deluxe,Peter Fox,Fettes Brot,5 Sterne Deluxe,Sido for example are german Rap Artists who are rapping in German…Worth to react….
Joy Denalane und Max Herre, Annenmaykantereit, Jesper Munk, Annette Louisan, Lina Maly, Pohlmann, Gentleman, Joris, Phil Siemers, Juli, Tim Bendzko, Seeed, Jan Delay, Marteria, Cäthe, Andreas Bourani, Bosse, Johannes Ording, Gregor Meyle... And sooooo much more.
Westernhagen + Freiheit (live ;) ) or Sexy, Grönemeyer + Alkohol, Klaus Lage 1000x berührt or Mercedes Benz, Ärzte feat. Lara Croft + Männer sind Schweine XD, Barbara Rhabarber Rap (!!) lots more to explore
German medieval folk music: Faun Medieval/Shanty/Pub Musik (Similar to Irish Pub music) : Versengold German sea Shanty : Santiano German Medieval Rock/Metal : Saltatio Mortis, Feuerschwanz
Santiano is the absolute worst. Generic industry plants. Designed to cater to drunk party people, grannys watching Schlager-TV-events and metalheads alike with no edges or creativity. With a band big enough that everyone is easy to replace at any time for another jobber. A braindead chimp could write and sing that shit.
and one of the most famous anti-nazi-songs: Die Ärzte - Schrei nach Liebe here is a lyrics-video with english translation and side-notes - because otherwise some lines you only can understand when you grew up in germany... ruclips.net/video/yh8ufcjoctA/видео.html
Samy Deluxe (Rap), Peter Fox and Seeed (Dancehall, HipHop, Reggae), Absolute Beginner (HipHop), Fantastischen Vier (HipHop), Megaloh (Rap), Gentleman (Reggae), Sportfreunde Stiller (IndieRock), Paul Kalkbrenner (Electro), Grossstadtgeflüster (Electropunk)....and many more :)
If you are interested in German Hip Hop, here are some classics from the 90s and early 2000s (hands down the best era for German rap; and the videos were also more fun than today IMHO).
Die Fantastischen Vier - Die Da!?! Fünf Sterne deluxe - Dein Herz schlägt schneller Das Bo - Türlich Türlich Deichkind - Bon Voyage (feat. Nina MC) Eins Zwo - Hands aufs Herz Beginner - Liebeslied Fettes Brot - Jein Kinderzimmer Productions - Doobie Rödelheim Hartreim Projekt - Höha, schnella, weita Freundeskreis - Wenn der Vorhang fällt Samy Deluxe - Weck mich auf Kool Savas - Neongelb SIDO - Mein Block Bushido - Sonnenbank Flavour After around 2005 I lost track of the "rap game" a little, but these are some more recent hits which were so big that even I still registered them: Marteria - Kids (2 Finger an den Kopf) K.I.Z. - Hurra die Welt geht unter Seeed - Dickes B Culcha Candela - Hamma! Summer Cem - Tamam Tamam SXTN - FTZN IM CLB Juju feat. Henning May - Vermissen Nina Chuba - Wildberry Lillet
Why many Germans don't like German language music is because the first thing that comes into your mind is "Schlager" - and this is very controversary. Either you love or you hate it 😆. Helene Fischer or Roland Kaiser are well known "Schlager"-artists. Herbert Grönemeyer is well known in Germany as well as Udo Lindenberg, Die Ärzte, Die Toten Hosen, The Scorpions, The Boss Hoss or a few years ago there were bands like Spider Murphy Gang, Silbermond, Revolverheld, Die fantastischen Vier or Scooter. There are many more but I only mentioned the ones that first came to my mind.
Meine Lieblingsmusikerin war lange Zeit: Annett Luisan Eine deutsche maybe Popsängerin (?) etwas angehaucht mit Chanson (?) Bestimmt gut um Deutsch zu lernen.
A capella group from Cologne: Wise Guys - Relativ. It showcases German double entendres 😜 Due to the championship: Sportfreunde Schiller - ’54, ’74, ’90, 2006 Die Prinzen - Alles nur geklaut
Some old school hip hop /rap.. Dendemann - gut und gerne, 3 1/2 Minuten, ersoichso Torch - Ich hab geschrieben, Blauer Samt, Wir waren mal Stars Samy Deluxe - Weck mich auf, grüne Brille Spezializtz - Tut was ihr nicht lassen könnt, G. B. Z. Afrob - Reimemonster Ferris MC - zur Erinnerung DJ Tomekk feat. KRS One - Return of Hip Hop Just to name a few 😅
Great reaction video. There is so much German music. I'm no expert, but as far as I know, German rap has been around in the underground since the 80s (one of the pioneers was Torch, listen to "wir waren mal Stars" for example). In the early 90s, the Fantastischen Vier made German hip hop known to the masses (listen to the first song that was a real commercial hit, "die da"). More recently I would recommend Juju feat. Henning May "Vermissen "recommend. Other interesting German things are: Peter Fox - Zukunft Pink Seeed - Dickes B Annenmaykantereit - Ich geh heut nicht mehr tanzen (Proberaumsession) Die Ärzte - Lass sie reden Reinhard Mey und Freunde - Nein, meine Söhne geb ich nicht Die Toten Hosen - Tage wie dieser Kasalla - Immer noch do Farin Urlaub - Dusche Namika - Lieblingsmensch Herbert Grönemeyer - Der Weg (Live in Gelsenkirchen) Adil Tawil - Lieder Sarah Conner - Vincent Johannes Oerding - Kreise Max Giesinger - 80 Millionen Andreas Bourani - Hey Joris - Nur die Musik
German music (german language music) is obviously very diverse. Maybe some additional recommendations: - Alligatoah - songs such as "Monet" or "Du bist schön" (very intelligent and ironic lyrics; I'm sure you would like the sound) - Udo Lindenberg - "Cello" - Versengold - "Thekenmädchen" (some celtic influences) and many many more...
I love nearly all kind of music, also many different kind of musi in german language. I love Reinhard Mey and many other different SingerSongWriter like Matthias Lüke (kurze Wege gehn auch Vögel zu Fuß) or Tim Linde (eine handbreit Wasser unterm Kiel) also Christina Stürmer (und ich gehe mit dir Seite anSeite) I like Grönemeyer und Klaus Lage, Max Raabe und sein Palastorchester, Bands like Tote Hosen , Revolverheld, Santiago RockorchesterRuhrgebiet and last not least many of the oder Songs like Milva an Musicstar from Italy which sie sing in german (Freiheit in meiner Sprache) and also many of the Schlageroldies
It starts with Fantastische Vier with "Die da" in 1992 as a big mainstream hit. The 90st german hiphop scene was mainly influenced by fun, poetical, ironically rap songs and with start the of 2000st more and more gangster rap enter the mainstream in a 2nd wave of artist. As mention above Fanta 4 show more the fun or poetical side with "Die Da" , "MFG" or "Sie ist weg". Sido "Mein Block" from the early 2000st show the gangster rap side of german hiphop. And Deichkind show the party, ironical and special side of German Rap with "Bück dich hoch", "Arbeit nervt" or "Leider geil".
Electric Callboy is a great german band. They perform mostly in english if you wanted something with german vocals. Also "Scorpions" (yeah, wind of change, rock you like a hurricane) is a german band too. Seed/Peter fox is nice too, especially the song "Music Monks". Also "Fettes Brot" is nice and they rap in german. Böhse Onkelz are nice too. They sing german hard punk. And last but not least K.I.Z
Sorry P.S. Yes, Rap is really popular in Germany. P.P.S. An really good Actor in German Language is "Stefan Gwildis" from Hamburg.
Have a look at Feuerschwanz. The base is middle age rock, but there are good covers Like "Ding" (a Hip hop song). There are many good medieval Bands in germany. The biggest medieval music festival is the Festival Mediaval. A great place with a special kind of people 🙂
Oh I love Easy German! I am a German teacher and I always recommend this chanel to my students! ❤I really enjoy your German day. There is so much good German music!!! And so many different styles so it is really hard to recommend this or that song because there are so many. I like Peter Fox very much. (He is the singer of Seeed mentioned in this video.) You might enjoy "Schüttel dein` Speck" (Shake your fat), a hymne to big women. If you like good old rock'n' roll, I would recommend Marius Müller Westernhagen. "Mit 18" is a great song (I think it's the life version from 1984 which is the best). Or "Sexy" (official video). Do you like punk? Check out the "Toten Hosen". They use to sing in German but one of their best songs is in English. It is called "Pushed again." Great song with a great message. And of course nobody should miss Nina Hagen!!! She is the queen of German punk music!!! Check out "TV Glotzer" live from Rockpalast. Soooo crazy, sooooo good!!! By the way: Westernhagen and Nina are still rocking although they are not the youngest anymore. They never get old!!!! A biiiig HELLO from Germany, looking forward to your next reaction! ❤
listen to K.I.Z they are the german best rappers imho. from one of the hardest and most fucked up to the most socialy critic lyrics. they are in the business for 20 years by now.
Not sure if anyone recommended something among those lines yet, but let me open your mind to German medieval folk rock. RUclips has plenty of videos and songs by Saltatio Mortis, Feuerschwanz, Coppelius and Schandmaul, to name a few personal favorites. And if you'd like it a bit more piratey, look (or listen) for Vroudenspil or "Mr. Hurley und die Pulveraffen". A good alternative to Rammstein, also from the genre of NDH is Eisbrecher. (Neue Deutsche Härte, btw., would be "New German Hard(ness)" - a hard rock/heavy metal kind of style deriving its name from the older genre of Neue Deutsche Welle - New German Wave - which Nena was counted to, for example.) I'd personally also love to recommend Electric Callboy but their synthcore music is mostly English, not German, much like the very great Fiddler's Green who are from Germany but - you might've guessed it by the name - make Irish folk rock.
So you wanna listen to Deutschrap? Try Fanta 4, Fünf Sterne Deluxe, Samy Deluxe, Stieber Twins, Afrob, Freundeskreis, Der Tobi und das Bo, DJ Tomekk, Absolute Beginner, Fettes Brot, Blumentopf, Curse, Sido, Torch and so on... 🙂
I would highly recommend Kontra K, he is a very famous german rapper. His lyrics always have a deeper meaning and his videos are so good. Also his Liveshows are amazing. (songs/videos: Kampfgeist 4, Summertime, Für den Himmel durch die Hölle, Sirenen, Warnung) and many more...
Reacting to German music is a great idea of yours. Unfortunately, I have to say that I don't feel represented at all in the survey. The German medieval and metal scene for example is extremely large in Germany (maybe not in Berlin, but of course Berlin isn't representative of all of Germany either). That's why I have to recommend bands like Saltatio Mortis (Finsterwacht) or Feuerschwanz (Ding) (for a shallow introduction). I would be very happy if you put out feelers in that direction too. By the way: I really like the style you react and am always looking forward to new videos from you.
Ok I will make sure I cover the metal scene, it might suprise you but I loved Nu Metal growing up. Like Korn, Linkin Park, Limp Bitzkit and alternative rock and indie like Radiohead and Muse. So I'm into lots of different types of music. Thanks for your suggestions I will definitely check them out. And thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoy the reactions :)
Junge, schlag ihm doch wenigsten gute Bands vor, ne Spaß aber ergänzend :P Ignis Fatuu, Versengold, Haggefugg, Kräyenzeit, Subway to Sally, Schandmaul, Vogelfrey, Schelmish, Faun und natürlich die Erfinder In Extremo
Yes! Versengold with "Thekenmädchen" or "Haut mir kein Stein". It's in german and not cringe

Saltatio Mortis just topped the german album charts with Finsterwacht. They have grown BIG! And yeah, Finsterwacht is just epic! Absolutely give it a listen.
Late to the game, but here are some bands that sing in German: In Extremo, Subway to Sally, Mr. Hurley und die Pulveraffen, Versengold, Saltatio Mortis, Feuerschwanz, Faun, Harpyie, Schandmaul, ASP, Blutengel, Coppelius, Eisbrecher, Letzte Instanz
Ich + Ich / Adel Tawil / Cassandra Steen / Tim Bendzko / Max Giesinger / Andreas Bourani / Johannes Oerding / Wincent Weiss / Mark Forster / 2raumwohnung / Juli / Christina Stürmer / Silbermond / Die Fantastischen Vier / Die Prinzen / Söhne Mannheims / Sportfreunde Stiller / Sido
AnnenMayKantereit would be a good thing though you can't really tell what genre they are to be put into.. Die Ärzte (Punk the most) should be brough into thinking
Electric Callboy killed the Schlagermusik with "Hurrikan", another song by them in partial German is "Spaceman" = metal-rap-mix , most popular is "we got the moves" and newest is "RATATATATA" a colaboration with BabyMetal. A German "Urgestein" is Udo Lindenberg: " Horizont", "Cello", "Sonderzug nach Pankow" ,"mein Ding" sowie AnnenMayKantereit with "Ich geh heut nicht mehr tanzen" , "Pocahontas" ,"lass es kreisen"💃💃💃💃💃🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺
I have another important suggestion: Please react to "Ezé - SAGE NEIN" It's a cover version from brilliant Konstantin Wecker song. Very relevant and current. Other suggestions: - Namika - Lieblingsmensch (116 million clicks) / Je ne parle pas français - Pur - Geweint vor Glück / Abenteuerland / Noch ein Leben - Reinhard Mey - Mein Berlin / Sommermorgen / Wie vor Jahr und Tag
one of my favorite Bands is Feuerschwanz. You must hear something old from them :) it's amazing. I love the new songs too, but the old are very good :)
Die Fantastischen Vier (German HipHip of the first hour), Peter Fox and Seeed (German urban Reggae mix), Herbert Grönemeyer (you reacted to him already), Nina Hagen (esp. her first album with Spliff, German punk), Max Mutzke (who sings a lot in English as well, German soul), GREGOR MEYLE (Germa singer/songwriter, very beautiful lyrics and great music!
the women who answered the question 'your favorite German band?' with like 'Thats not really my alley, I am more into Classical Music' could have recognized that most of the iconic classical music and composers ARE FROM THE GERMAN SPEAKING REALM! (and most others are influenced by that). I dont expect that she also could have known that 'Band' is a cognate in each German and English, and that it also had fit as answer. It actually means 'flat strip/something that binds' and exist in German as well as in English. That most people are not very aware about the language they are using (even believing they are 'natives' - yep, native users but not necessarily knowers) could be seen by words like 'Husband'. A German AND an English could both recognize that there are two words with a meaning: 'Hus' + 'Band'. 'Hus' = Haus/House (and exist still as 'Hus' in other Germanic languages) + 'Band' = bound to a House/Household/male leader (usually). Another aspect is that those answers in the video reflect more a certain bubble in some Berlin districts.
If you need another song for great goosebumps: Reinhard Mey & Freunde - Nein, meine Söhne geb ich nicht. ruclips.net/video/1q-Ga3myTP4/видео.html (there are english subtitles available!) Reinhard Mey is something like a german Bob Dylan - he wrote this song in the 1980s and I also new records when he sang this alone, just with his guitar on the stage. In this version of 2020 he took many great german musicians (mostly with medieval/folk/rock-background) and re-recorded this song for an aid-organisation that helps children from war- and crisis-areas. Maybe you will need some tissues ;-)
If your looking for Rap/HipHop from Germany i would recommend: - Die Fantastischen 4 - Culcha Candela - Seeed / Peter Fox - Kool Savage - Cro - Fettes Brot - Gentlemen (he does Caribbian/Jamaican Styl Rap) - Sido - Samy Deluxe possibly EAV (erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung) they are from Austria and have some Rap-Elements in some songs, same with Falco.
4:25 Our "Goats" are King Kool Savas, Samy Deluxe, Sido, Azad, Haftbefehl, Kollegah, Bushido. The first Rapgroups where Bands like Fanta 4, Absolute Beginner. Our best Writers are guys like (the old generation) Torch, Curse, Max Herre. ("newer") Morlockk Dilemma (!), Laas (!), OG Keemo, (!)Ali As, Megaloh, Edgar Wasser, Kool Savas, Kollegah (But also stole a lot) and ...öhm Lackmann. And the big ones are maybe: Apache 207, Shindy, Shirin David, Cro, RIN, UFO361, Bones MC, Luciano, Badmonzjay, Jamule, Fourty, Nina Chuba . It's very mixed, I tried to give a litte overview. Even if it's long not completely accurate and a lot of names are missing.
I love how that old dude said Seeed! They're awesome! Definitely should check them out! Die Toten Hosen were my first ever live concert back in 1998 (omg I'm old). They and Die Ärzte are punkrocky with sometimes socialcritical lyrics. Fettes Brot are also amazing (hip hop) and Gentleman is german-jamaican and, of course, is more reagge
Sup mate. For private interest or even a worthy reaction: Brothers Keepers - (Adriano) Letzte Warnung. Has a bunch of artists in it, german/english mixed, political/social content. Is tagged hiphop
Hi Dwayne, I'm always very touched of Your interest, apreciation and homage to our country (Germany) and fact is, that our people and country love a kind of encouragement.....😌 My question is a little bit off-topic... Here on YT is a video called "This is Germany" or "Das ist Deutschland". It's such a wonderful clip with a kind of video-pics and epic (!), classical music, landscape and beautiful buildings....! I would love, if You put that video on to Your channel and maybe comment it or just watch it.....🥰 There are two versions of it: one older and one newer. I prefer the newer (and a little bit shorter ca. 13 minutes) video..... When I discovered this video a few weeks ago, I was overwhelmed how beautiful my country is - I never realized and knew it - really not.....! 🥲 Greetings from 🇩🇪
Ok I've added it to my playlist of videos to react to, I promise I wont forget. I'm always fascinated with the beauty of the world and how our view of the planet can be stifled by looking to narrowly. There are so many beautiful places. I'm so looking forward to exploring some more of Germany. Thank You for watching and I'm glad you enjoy the videos :)
I'm German and I am pretty keen on ordering stuff but I don't order my playlists because I don't listen to playlists :) But I order my vinyls and CDs by the name of the band or artist and then by the year the album was released (originally). Actually, my vinyl collection is split into two categories now. As most people did, I had not bought vinyl records for many years. But a few years back, when I switched from buying MP3s to streaming on Spotify, I started buying vinyl again. I mean new releases of records. And more recently, I also started buying old, used vinyl at the flea market. So, my two categories are now: Shiny, brand new albums, and old, visibly used stuff, whether I originally bought it in the 80s myself or got it from the flea market or similar.
I just watched your video about life in the GDR (I was born in 1968 there) and our music was mostly in German (had to be!). We had a lot of very good artists and bands. Look for them and you get good and clear lyrics. From the top of my head here are some suggestions: Rockhaus - I.L.D. / Tanzen Silly - Mont Klamott / Bataillon d'Amour
If you like rap/hip hop I would suggest: Trettmann - Zeit steht Samy Deluxe - roter Velour K. I. Z. - Ein Affe und Pferd. A good mixture of modern, old school and sarcastic/funny
Of course I sort playlists after moods, genres etc. - and even use folders xD I would recommend Maeckes and Bilderbuch (although it's probably not good for learning german)
If you want to try philosophical Deutschrap, I recommend Käptn Peng & die Tentakel von Delphi, their songs are good to learn German due to their MVs and are just hilarious, but a bit older from 2013-2019. One of the funniest (which still makes a lot of sense) German love songs is also from them: "Sie mögen sich" (ft. Shaban). My current favourite German artist is Paula Hartmann. Her music is a mix of pop and rap. A tip for finding good German bands and artists is searching for the lineups of all types of festivals. Other rappers or artists that are quite known are Kontra K, Sido, Marsimoto/ Marteria, Peter Fox, Ski Aggu, K.I.Z, Nina Chuba and Nura.
I think music is a language for itself. It is not that important, in which language it is sang. I recently stumbled over your channel and saw your reactions to Seeed and Reinhard Mey and must say that even if you don't understand as much of the german itself, you understand what the song is about. May it be because of the beat or the vocals. Music is a universal language!
Dilla is a quite versatile newcomer. She likes to mix and match and experiments a lot with all things Pop related. I enjoy her song "Girls" quite a lot but "Junge" is a heart breaking ballad which I just love. Another good singer is Paula Carolina. Her hit "Schreien! Turbo Remix" has some serious 90ies techno vibes. Nina Chuba is also well loved. Her hit single "Wildberry Lillet" was THE summer hit two years ago or so. Kraftklub is my all time favourite german band. They combine Rock / Indie with speech-song and are very openly anti-fascist and support events to raise awareness and money for left-wing youth centres and the like. I like "Schüsse in die Luft" very much. And last but not least the band Provinz is also very dear to me. They often have a melancholy touch to them and I love it. "Ich will dich wiedersehen" is a favourite happy song. If you like to give a gut wrenching song a go try "Reicht dir das". A happy mood hit is "Liebe zu dritt" feat. Marjan and Jeremias. Have fun. (:
Guys I'm so blown away by the response and the amount of suggestions. Keep them coming. If you could see the list I've compiled from everyones request. Its amazing lol!

I recommend Peter Fox (frontman of the band Seeed). The a cappella band "Wise Guys" is also very good for learning German.
For acapella Maybebop is also great
Wise Guys really have some advanced word-plays in their songs that arent beginner friendly though

They just brought out a new album that talks about the recent political situation, which is called „Görlitzer Park“ with songs like „sensibel“, „Frieden“, „Samstag ist Krieg“
Nonetheless the most famous song of them is probably „Hurra die Welt geht unter“ a feat with Henning May from 2015.
Henning May is part of the band Annenmaykantereit which also has lots of worth listening songs. ❤
Absolute! Like to hear your review of "Frieden".

If you want to react to music i'd like to recommend Finsterwacht by Satatio Mortis (medievil / metal).
It is in german, but has good subtitles.

SEEED (reggae/dub)
Peter Fox
Die Ärzte (punk rock)
Farin Urlaub (punk) (singer of Die Ärzte)
Wir Sind Helden (pop/rock)
Knorkator (weird/metal/art) (describe themselfs as "the most band of the world")
Die Fantastischen Vier (hip hop)
Jan Delay (hip hop/funk)
Bodo Wartke (comedian/singer songwriter)
Die Toten Hosen (punk rock)
Blind Guardian (metal/fantasy)
Dendemann (hip hop/rap)

Recommending Rammstein nowadays is raising some serious questions, dude.
german hip hop and rap culture goes back to the early early 80s, was huge during the end of the 90s and got HUGE HUGE in the early 2000s. it is a big big part of german culture!
SEEED and Culcha Cundela and the first solo album of Peter Fox (SEEED singer) is also just genius❣️

Kraftklub is great♥️ We love their lyrics and concerts. Always a great time to see them live. You have to listen to them :)
Andreas Bourani, Adel Tawil, Rosenstolz, Fettes Brot are some of my favourite German speaking artist.
Adel Tawil is more of a singer, his best songs were all written by Annette Humpe. SHE's a legend. Everything she does is gold...since half a century.
Alligatoah is one of my favourite, also recommend Grossstadtgeflüster
Samy Deluxe with "Poesiealbum" is my suggestion. Believe me..😉
I realy like your channel!
Greets from Germany!
Electric Callboy

Biggest German artist of the 80s/90s is Herbert Groenemeyer and his rival Marius Müller Westernhagen. First popular German Hip Hoppers where the Fantastischen Vier. Germany is Europes biggest music market, so we have a Ton of music. Some of my favorites are Peter Fox, Wir sind Helden, Electric Callboy, Feuerschwanz, Saltatio Mortis...
PLEASE: React to Electric Callboy!😊❤
Fantastischen 4,Beginner,Samy Deluxe,Peter Fox,Fettes Brot,5 Sterne Deluxe,Sido for example are german Rap Artists who are rapping in German…Worth to react….
Nichts gegen die Interpreten, die du vorgeschlagen hast. Ich hätte einige davon selbst vorgeschlagen. - Vor 30 Jahren!

German medieval folk music: Faun
Medieval/Shanty/Pub Musik (Similar to Irish Pub music) : Versengold
German sea Shanty : Santiano
German Medieval Rock/Metal : Saltatio Mortis, Feuerschwanz
I'd like to add Schandmaul to this list!
Ich mag dich jetzt schon.
@@minengraf
Santiano is the absolute worst. Generic industry plants. Designed to cater to drunk party people, grannys watching Schlager-TV-events and metalheads alike with no edges or creativity. With a band big enough that everyone is easy to replace at any time for another jobber.
A braindead chimp could write and sing that shit.
I'd like to add the following bands to the list above: Subway to Sally and In Extremo
Samy deluxe - wake me up 👌🏼 20 years old but more relevant than ever
and one of the most famous anti-nazi-songs: Die Ärzte - Schrei nach Liebe
here is a lyrics-video with english translation and side-notes - because otherwise some lines you only can understand when you grew up in germany...

Fünf Sterne deluxe - Dein Herz schlägt schneller
Das Bo - Türlich Türlich
Deichkind - Bon Voyage (feat. Nina MC)
Eins Zwo - Hands aufs Herz
Beginner - Liebeslied
Fettes Brot - Jein
Kinderzimmer Productions - Doobie
Rödelheim Hartreim Projekt - Höha, schnella, weita
Freundeskreis - Wenn der Vorhang fällt
Samy Deluxe - Weck mich auf
Kool Savas - Neongelb
SIDO - Mein Block
Bushido - Sonnenbank Flavour
After around 2005 I lost track of the "rap game" a little, but these are some more recent hits which were so big that even I still registered them:
Marteria - Kids (2 Finger an den Kopf)
K.I.Z. - Hurra die Welt geht unter
Seeed - Dickes B
Culcha Candela - Hamma!
Summer Cem - Tamam Tamam
SXTN - FTZN IM CLB
Juju feat. Henning May - Vermissen
Nina Chuba - Wildberry Lillet
I can recommend Rio Reiser, Freundeskreis, Peter Fox and Die Fantastischen Vier. Cheers!
Meine Lieblingsmusikerin war lange Zeit: Annett Luisan
Eine deutsche maybe Popsängerin (?) etwas angehaucht mit Chanson (?)
Bestimmt gut um Deutsch zu lernen.
A capella group from Cologne: Wise Guys - Relativ. It showcases German double entendres 😜
Due to the championship: Sportfreunde Schiller - ’54, ’74, ’90, 2006
Die Prinzen - Alles nur geklaut
Some old school hip hop /rap..
Dendemann - gut und gerne, 3 1/2 Minuten, ersoichso
Torch - Ich hab geschrieben, Blauer Samt, Wir waren mal Stars
Samy Deluxe - Weck mich auf, grüne Brille
Spezializtz - Tut was ihr nicht lassen könnt,
G. B. Z.
Afrob - Reimemonster
Ferris MC - zur Erinnerung
DJ Tomekk feat. KRS One - Return of Hip Hop
Just to name a few 😅
I also recommend "Gentleman"
Reggae from germany.
Listen to "MFG" Fanta 4 (1999)
A few random, but very good German performers: Alligatoah, Cro, Bosse, Wir sind Helden, Farin Urlaub (Die Ärzte), Kettcar
Other interesting German things are:
Peter Fox - Zukunft Pink
Seeed - Dickes B
Kasalla - Immer noch do
Farin Urlaub - Dusche
Namika - Lieblingsmensch
Herbert Grönemeyer - Der Weg (Live in Gelsenkirchen)
Adil Tawil - Lieder
Sarah Conner - Vincent
Johannes Oerding - Kreise
Max Giesinger - 80 Millionen
Andreas Bourani - Hey
Joris - Nur die Musik
German music (german language music) is obviously very diverse.
Maybe some additional recommendations:
- Alligatoah - songs such as "Monet" or "Du bist schön" (very intelligent and ironic lyrics; I'm sure you would like the sound)
- Udo Lindenberg - "Cello"
- Versengold - "Thekenmädchen" (some celtic influences)
and many many more...
Fettes Brot is also a hip hop group from the northern part of Germany, that were quiet popular. They sadly disbanded last year, after around 30 years
I highly recommend Seeed live at Lollapalooza. You can find it here on RUclips.
I'd like to suggest reacting to Die Ärzte, Eisbrecher, and Die Toten Hosen. Schrei Nach Liebe is a good song from Die Ärzte.
I love nearly all kind of music, also many different kind of musi in german language. I love Reinhard Mey and many other different SingerSongWriter like Matthias Lüke (kurze Wege gehn auch Vögel zu Fuß) or Tim Linde (eine handbreit Wasser unterm Kiel) also Christina Stürmer (und ich gehe mit dir Seite anSeite) I like Grönemeyer und Klaus Lage,
Max Raabe und sein Palastorchester, Bands like Tote Hosen , Revolverheld, Santiago RockorchesterRuhrgebiet
and last not least many of the oder Songs like Milva an Musicstar from Italy which sie sing in german (Freiheit in meiner Sprache) and also many of the Schlageroldies
I like Reinhard Mey: Aller guten sind drei; Meine Söhne geb ich nicht
Juliane Werding is one of my favorite german-language singers, too
Reinhard May, Konstantin Wecker, Hubert von Goisern, Kraftwerk, Wise Guys, Jonas Monar.
+ Gisbert zu Knyphausen.
A great place with a special kind of people 🙂
Glad to see Festival Mediaval mentioned here ☺

(Neue Deutsche Härte, btw., would be "New German Hard(ness)" - a hard rock/heavy metal kind of style deriving its name from the older genre of Neue Deutsche Welle - New German Wave - which Nena was counted to, for example.)
I'd personally also love to recommend Electric Callboy but their synthcore music is mostly English, not German, much like the very great Fiddler's Green who are from Germany but - you might've guessed it by the name - make Irish folk rock.
„Haus am See“ von Peter Fox
So you wanna listen to Deutschrap? Try Fanta 4, Fünf Sterne Deluxe, Samy Deluxe, Stieber Twins, Afrob, Freundeskreis, Der Tobi und das Bo, DJ Tomekk, Absolute Beginner, Fettes Brot, Blumentopf, Curse, Sido, Torch and so on... 🙂
Ganz genau mein Ding 💚 Gute Auswahl 👍🏻
I would highly recommend Kontra K, he is a very famous german rapper. His lyrics always have a deeper meaning and his videos are so good. Also his Liveshows are amazing. (songs/videos: Kampfgeist 4, Summertime, Für den Himmel durch die Hölle, Sirenen, Warnung) and many more...
„Ich hab Polizei“ von Polizistensohn might be fun for you to watch but I am not sure if you get it despite the translation.
Late to the game, but here are some bands that sing in German:
In Extremo, Subway to Sally, Mr. Hurley und die Pulveraffen, Versengold, Saltatio Mortis, Feuerschwanz, Faun, Harpyie, Schandmaul, ASP, Blutengel, Coppelius, Eisbrecher, Letzte Instanz

Another aspect is that those answers in the video reflect more a certain bubble in some Berlin districts.
yeah, but its like in an argument: you realise later haha
If you need another song for great goosebumps:
Reinhard Mey & Freunde - Nein, meine Söhne geb ich nicht.
ruclips.net/video/1q-Ga3myTP4/видео.html
(there are english subtitles available!)
Reinhard Mey is something like a german Bob Dylan - he wrote this song in the 1980s and I also new records when he sang this alone, just with his guitar on the stage.
In this version of 2020 he took many great german musicians (mostly with medieval/folk/rock-background) and re-recorded this song for an aid-organisation that helps children from war- and crisis-areas.
Maybe you will need some tissues ;-)
If your looking for Rap/HipHop from Germany i would recommend:

possibly EAV (erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung) they are from Austria and have some Rap-Elements in some songs, same with Falco.

Hi Dwayne, I'm always very touched of Your interest, apreciation and homage to our country (Germany) and fact is, that our people and country love a kind of encouragement.....😌
My question is a little bit off-topic...
Here on YT is a video called "This is Germany" or "Das ist Deutschland".
It's such a wonderful clip with a kind of video-pics and epic (!), classical music, landscape and beautiful buildings....!
I would love, if You put that video on to Your channel and maybe comment it or just watch it.....🥰
There are two versions of it: one older and one newer.
I prefer the newer (and a little bit shorter ca. 13 minutes) video.....
When I discovered this video a few weeks ago, I was overwhelmed how beautiful my country is - I never realized and knew it - really not.....! 🥲
Greetings from 🇩🇪
Ok I've added it to my playlist of videos to react to, I promise I wont forget. I'm always fascinated with the beauty of the world and how our view of the planet can be stifled by looking to narrowly. There are so many beautiful places. I'm so looking forward to exploring some more of Germany. Thank You for watching and I'm glad you enjoy the videos :)
@@dwayneslensThanks....! 🤗 Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪😊
Grönemeier - der Weg
I've reacted to this video and the live version a few weeks back. It's on my channel :)
@@dwayneslens Thanks for your reply - must have overlooked this one. Sorry.
Cro is agreat german artist, and his most famous song is called "Easy". I love that song.
I just watched your video about life in the GDR (I was born in 1968 there) and our music was mostly in German (had to be!). We had a lot of very good artists and bands. Look for them and you get good and clear lyrics. From the top of my head here are some suggestions:
Rockhaus - I.L.D. / Tanzen
Silly - Mont Klamott / Bataillon d'Amour
Some contemporary german pop artists:
Lea
Ayliva
Tim Bendzko
Namika
Electric Callboy ❤
Die Ärzte - Schrei nach Liebe is the best German song ever written
I like Grossstadtgeflüster songs like " Feierabend "
Mark Forster
Tim Bentzko
Die Ärzte
Silbermond
Kraftklub
Die Fantastischen Vier (they made German hip-hop popular - more or less)
1:55 The Berlinsound is just plain 90s Techno :D
Knorkator is great
Mark Foster & SEEED & Peter Fox
If you like rap/hip hop I would suggest:
Trettmann - Zeit steht
Samy Deluxe - roter Velour
K. I. Z. - Ein Affe und Pferd.
A good mixture of modern, old school and sarcastic/funny
In the 2000s rappers like Savas did a lot of American feats, DJ Tommek with Lil'Kim... Germany has a very deep rap culture, it's a lifestyle!
Of course I sort playlists after moods, genres etc. - and even use folders xD I would recommend Maeckes and Bilderbuch (although it's probably not good for learning german)
If you are interested in german Hip Hop, you may try out GZUZ, 257ers, Mach One, Azad, Absolute Beginner, Genetikk, Galla. Maybe Bushido or Sido.
Have fun. (:
