She is so adorable! Does she like car rides? We’ve raised one baby possum and 7 squirrels at different times. They all exceeded the normal life expectancy. We had a brother and sister first. They were orphaned. We found their mother dead beneath the tree that held their nest. Everyone we raised had the run of the house and regular trips to the vet. The last one was Ivy. We named her that because she was so clingy.😊 And they ruined most all of our wooden furniture but I wouldn’t trade the time with them for anything. Once it was known to people that I volunteered with a wildlife rescue and rehab group, tree trimmers started showing up at my door with baby squirrels. I told them if they would wait and watch, the mothers , if they were ok, would usually come back for them.They all would sleep on me, usually over my heart, never bit anyone but was afraid of strangers. She loved car rides and hanging out in the curtain valances. She used them like hammocks. I found her nuts and pumpkin seeds everywhere. In my shoes, under pillows etc. She almost made it to 9 years. Getting them so tiny and feeding them formula with a dropper made them completely tame with us. Lots of kisses and cuddles. I still miss them all! We can see that Poppy is very well taken care of and happy. We wish her a very long and healthy life.👍💕

She reminds me of our late degu. He was so loving just like Poppy and very intelligent. He eventually made sounds to identify with each family member. Animals need lots of genuine love and you obviously love Poppy. Rejected and abused animals, as was our degu (degloved tail by previous owners), just poured out love to us all. We miss him terribly. He was family and a pet. He had a stroke and lost control of his back legs and rear quarters one morning. I held him close and told him how much we loved him, and he made his loving sounds and then died. Please make sure that Poppy gets all the love and happiness that every animal and person deserves. Thanks for sharing these videos as they have brought back joyful memories.

It’s amazing that she has figured out signs to indicate things. She may conceive human language like a human but it seems she is able to associate words to things. I understand what you mean about keeping a prairie dog as a pet. They are social and need company. It just amazes me how intelligent they are. Humans always look to larger mammals when they look for intelligence and never think about these humble little furballs.

Bruxing: Definitely a sign of peace, contentment, and especially happiness here! She does it because like all other species of rodent, her teeth never stop growing from the day she is born and needs to file them down constantly in order to maintain the right length and sharpness. It's also why it's no big deal whenever they break a tooth because they grow back in relatively short order. I don't know if prairie dogs do it too, but if you really get a rat going, they're eyes will start boggling out of their heads and it's adorable!
Ms. Poppy is just so busy - it's good that you keep her psychologically occupied with daily "chores" to do. she reminds me of an aunt I had who was a whirlwind of activity and would always mutter "I have too much to do today!..."
