    Congratulations on your first free supply! What a great one to receive! I have to say, a lot of artists I watch really love poppies, but they haven’t been my favorite of flowers. However, after seeing your gorgeous poppy pastel painting, I may have changed my mind! This work is truly beautiful! I love how the detail contrasts with the soft edges and background! Thank you so much for sharing this with us! 💜💜💜 You are a rockstar! Over 2K already! 🎉🎉🎉

    Gorgeous technique and finished work with the pastels (as always). I haven't checked prices but I assume Paul Rubens pastels are not top of the range (price-wise) but, as is clear from your video, they can offer results that for beginners will come acceptably close to what can be achieved with the most expensive pastels. Thanks for sharing this set with us all and congratulations on (1) getting such a vote of confidence from a major manufacturer of art supplies and (2) breaking through the 2,000 subscriber - it only seems like yesterday you were commenting that you only had 60, 70 or 80 (I forget the exact number) subscribers. Now look at you! Best wishes for the continued success of your channel - we all benefit from being part of it. Regards, Brian.

      I think they are currently $72 on Amazon? So definitely much more affordable then say, a set of Terry Ludwigs! I think it would be a great beginner set, with a wide range of colors, and excellent for learning, without shelling out the big bucks! And yes, I did hit 2000! Thank you for noticing! I was watching it creep closer and closer over the weekend, and as soon as it hit 2000, I took a screen shot! It was so exciting! I am so glad people like my videos! Thank you, as always, for taking the time to watch and comment!

    This is stunning! It looks so realistic, like a photo! I have not used soft pastels, unless you count cheap oil pastels as a child with my sister, in which we called them creamy crayons-- and just smeared them on paper with wild abandon. 😆😆This is one medium I haven't dabbled with, but would love to try some day. Thank you for sharing, beautiful work!

    Amy, I'm not sure if I missed it, but did you decide on a sealant spray for your soft pastels that doesn't darken colours too much? x Nell

    • @winterwoodsstudio
      @winterwoodsstudio  Год назад +1

      I tested the spectra-fix last weekend and I am in love with it so far! Four to five thin coats, with ten minutes or so drying time in between seems seal it with very minimal darkening of color. It is non-toxic and can be used inside, and has no smell at all, and best of all, it doesn't bother my asthma! I was unhappy with the krylon fixative. VERY stinky, and it darkened the pastels considerably. I won't use that one even in the garage. Outside maybe. I have yet to try the Sennelier Soft Pastel fixative because it isn't warm enough outside yet to try it, and I don't want to do it in our house, or even garage because I've heard it has some pretty strong fumes. Hope that helps! I will probably do a video on it at some point after I try the Sennelier!

    Ok so I can’t figure out the difference with pastels. Ok so I had some oil pastels and I couldn’t really do anything with them. I couldn’t blend them or anything. But they were cheaper ones. So when I got serious about my art I tried the chalk pastels. So is there a difference from oil and chalk and soft? Also I remember you saying you had a plan when you started your channel, care to share? Your doing awesome. I am so excited for you.

    • @winterwoodsstudio
      @winterwoodsstudio  Год назад

      Hi! A plan for what? I'm not sure what you mean? Let me know! Oil pastels are very very different than soft pastels. I think chalk pastels are also different, although probably closer to soft pastels than oil pastels. Soft pastels are a powder with a binder that make them excellent for blending and layering. Also, paper matters a LOT with soft pastel. I highly recommend either using sanded paper or Pastel Mat with soft pastels so you can get a good amount of layering. Also, cheap oil pastels (like pentel) don't blend at all. Ido have an oil pastel video coming soon! Sometime in the next month, where we will get more into oil pastels! Thank you for watching!

    • @The.lazy.eyed.artist

      Ok great. I will work on getting a better quality. I was asking about your plan that you came up with when you decided to start your channel. • @mjpete27
    @mjpete27 Год назад +1

    Hullo Amy, I am glad your channel is taking off! I think that may be more important to advertisers than size of a channel! May I offer this insight? You might want to use a black line to help show how opaque or not your mediums are during swatching. A simple black sharpie line will work in most every case! Soft, medium, hard "chalk" pastels, oil pastels and all watercolor paints too! I do enjoy your videos and I am glad your doing so well, very exciting! If you want to see a great way to swatch look at some of Denise Soden's videos. I am quite envious of her watercolor swatches! I have purchased several of her palettes from DaVinci paint company! The only drawback with these budget pastel sets are lack of replacement sticks. If you ever try Terry Ludwig sticks you will know how a great soft pastel should feel! I chose Schmincke as my favorite soft pastel choice. They are very buttery and at a price I believe I can afford to replace as well! The best place I have found to get pastels in sample sets is Dakota Pastels. Call them and ask for help they are really great there!

    • @winterwoodsstudio
      @winterwoodsstudio  Год назад +1

      oh, the black line is a great idea! I have seen people do that, and for some reason it never occurred to me! I will definitely try to do that in my upcoming videos! I Dream of ordering a Terry Ludwig set, but it's out of my price range for now! I di enjoy this set, as well as my Unison sets and my Sennelier set! Someday I will get my hands on some Terry Ludwigs! And yes! I've heard of the sampler sets from Dakota pastels! I should definitely do a video soon with some of their sampler sets!
