Hi Amy. I love your art, even the loose art.. sometimes it's important to just create even if it's something different from your norm. It's all about enjoying the process. Don't be so hard on yourself. You've had so much on your plate.. as wives and mothers, we take on every ounce of pain and stress our loved ones are going thru. Be gentle with yourself. Create just for fun and enjoyment. We're still here to watch and appreciate it.. and love seeing the beautiful woods!

Amy, your videos are always enjoyable. It’s understandable that you are feeling the need to break artist block, but with everything you have going on, you need to be gentle. Remember the art of play. Practice good self care. Maybe read, or listen to, The Artist’s Way. Your followers will be here, cheering you on and returning for each video. Remember, the success of your channel is not just you lessons, skills, and beautiful art but it is also your warm and beautiful spirit and the fact that you are truly genuine. ~Blessings

I had artist's block really bad last year when I lost my mom. I tried everything as well. I just had to ride it out. She was my biggest supporter. Then one day I woke up and it was gone. Sometimes, you just have to let it work its way out.

Have you tried collage? That’s my best way to get out of it and going to a museum. On the other hand maybe something you just need to trying to relax a in whatever way works for you even if it’s not art related. There is a time for everything..

Hey Amy! Great job on getting some sketchbook work done. I think that would also be a good place to use up some of your non-lightfast supplies as well. I believe you are doing what you need to do to combat art block. One thing I've been doing on my days that I have no idea what to do is to work in my 365 Days of Art book. I actually also have the 365 days of Art In Nature book as well. I especially like to take them camping. It doesn't matter to me that they aren't made with paper that was meant for water, I do it anyways and will work in one while the other dries. I love watching how crinkly and funky they are becoming. There are no masterpieces or even anything I would ever show on social media. I draw, paint, color, collage, doing whatever the prompt calls for or whatever moves me at the moment. I don't even do them in order! lol Well, glad to see you looking well and happy and enjoying art. Your yard looks so inviting, btw!

There were neocolor twos in all of the sketchbook pieces I showed! I didn't film it though. I've been trying to give myself permsion to not film everything I do. I definitely think that's been contributing to my art block. I will be sure to do a video in the future. Thank you for watching!

Glad you are making such good progress with your shoulder. Wishing you well on whatever else is going on. I’m experiencing artist block myself for awhile now and yes, life’s stresses are definable contributing to it. I am not a Patreon member simply because I cannot afford the luxury of Patreon memberships at this time in my life. And why do we all apologize for our work when showing it to others. I do this constantly and hate that I feel the need to do so. So, please do not apologize for your work - it is lovely in both its detailed AND loose forms! Take care and all the best to you.

Hang in there, you have certainly had a rough period. As for the art block, maybe ask your kids, or a friend to suggest a “commission” piece (no money involved), that way the choice isn’t really yours. Alternatively, open a book or magazine you are reading and the first item you put your finger on is what you do, or write 20 things, add them folded into a jar, pull one out….. do it. You can also have 2 jars, one with the subjects and one with different mediums with which you have to create the piece of art. Also I suggest a 30 minute limit, you can add to your frustration by having lots of unfinished pieces that you wish you had had time to finish, so 30 minutes seems to be a good time range. Good luck.

My first thought when you showed the mixed media painting in the Stillman & Birn sketchbook, was that you had FUN making it. The energy of the marks really conveyed that! It’s beautiful! I think if you continue to find the fun when creating, it may help you come out of your block. Sandi Hester always reinforces the concept of play, and that has helped me to create more than I ever have…. Just that one concept. And I care way less if it’s ‘good’ or not, because I’m enjoying myself.

Your artwork is so beautiful! I love the loose style with the mix media. I have art block myself. I just found out in April that my sister has stage 4 lung cancer. Never smoked a day in her life. That I know for sure has contributed to my art block. I find myself working more with abstracts when my stress levels are high. It seems to help. It helps me get my feelings and emotions out. Hoping life settles down for you. Praying for peace. It sounds like a wild roller coaster ride like my life right now. Your plein air and those bears and beautiful place that you have just makes me happy and inspires me.❤

I am SO sorry to hear that, Madelyn! I will keep you and your sister in my thoughts! I know it's not much compared to what you are facing but I will be thinking of you two! And I think the abstract art would certainly be therapeutic for you and help process your emotions. I've been thinking of playing with it myself. You'll have to let me know what you think of it. Try to rest and refresh you heart and mind as much as you are able.

Thank you Amy I appreciate those sweet sentiments. The abstract art has helped me walk through the shock and anger of it all. I have replaced it with peace and a warrior mentality. My sister is a fighter and she says she is going to beat this. I told her I believe you will also. I drew a loose sketch of a woman facing lung cancer in agony where you could see her lungs. After that I drew a profile of a strong warrior woman with fighting words such as brave strong woman on her face. Then on the bottom Cancer You Will Die. I sent it to her via text. She said she would look at it daily to give her strength.❤

I have been in that hole far too many times. My tricks to spark the creative monster have been: go to the art store but buy nothing. Looking and touching the product can spark that feeling. My other is to phone a friend. My sister in law for me. She will give me a hundred ideas she would love to see. She is not into the things I am and her perspective jump starts ideas for me. I hope it helps a little.

Go have a look at Louise Fletcher’s channel she has some good tips for art block if I remember right. She also has a free short course that is helpful too. It helps u with your art in general. Thinking about what u like, what inspires u, its quite an in depth look at yourself that helps u hone in on things that can help your art practice. She is an abstract artist but what she says is valid for all genres. Hth xxx remember it’s u and your family that’s important. So please look after yourself xxx
