At that time. they aren't torn down, but upgraded to new equipment. For instance, they now have scrubbers for the coal plants to help clean up the environment, so there is less pollution. I lived in Texas for 12 1/2 years and Florida for 6 years with nuclear power. I've also lived in California who had wind turbines long before the rest of the country. They were supposed to solve the energy crisis at the time in the 70s(Global Cooling-we're headed towards the next Ice Age and WAY more pollution than today), but they were a running joke there. They did nothing to help the Energy Crisis or to save money for Californians. So, I've lived in areas where with a variety of energy sources. I prefer nuclear, as it's some of the cheapest and cleanest energy around.
Here’s how wind farms affect our environment: Large wind turbines create hush low frequency noise making living within a mile of them impossible. Many onshore wind turbines are prohibited from being within 1-1/2 miles of residences or more. The noise can travel through the ground to resonate in residences miles away. Offshore wind turbine will impact sound into the water the same as onshore wind turbine impact sound in to the ground. Sound in water travels much faster and further than it does in air or ground. Fisherman in France protested against offshore wind farms because when running their noise chases the fish away. Modern wind turbines are extremely large structures that are an eye sores to the landscape and are long term hazards if just left. Many wind turbine installations now have to pay into a restoration fee that is suppose to cover the demolition and restoration of the area if the wind turbine is abandoned. That fee likely doesn't cover the actual cost and the dangers involved by the time it comes into play. Wind turbines live in a hostile environment. Their average economical life is closer to ten years not their designed service life of 20 to 25 years. Many wind turbines after 2 - 5 years if requiring serious repair are abandoned becoming derelict to the landscape because they are not worth the human risk or cost of repairing. Beside becoming a derelict hazard and eye sore it makes their already high cost double or more per MW. In the USA when onshore wind farm expense is added into residential electric rates those rates have always gone up significantly. Offshore wind turbine costs is at least twice as much per MW as onshore wind turbines per MW. There is no normal home in the USA able to run off just a wind turbine generator for a month! Wind turbines don't have dispatchable power. They have to have dispatchable electric power able to pickup during wind lows and when there is little wind at all. That is typically expensive to fuel natural gas combined cycle plants. The NGCC plants have to run at high availability similar to running a five speed transmission car on the highway in third gear costing much higher fuel per MW and added wear and tear. It is cheap natural gas and easy, fast to build, situate, relatively cheap to build NGCC electric power stations that have allowed wind turbine generator's high initial cost and intermittent power generation to fit into more expensive, but practical grid power production. If natural gas becomes expensive it is prohibitively expensive to fuel base load electricity production from natural gas. That is why base load electricity production comes from coal, nuclear and hydropower. It is the responsibility of a public electric power utility to have electric rates as low as reasonably practical because much of the economy depends on electricity. A new ultra high efficiency clean burning coal plant with after treatment is much more expensive per MW than NGCC to build, are difficult to situate, take a long time to build and need to be very large to spread their large staff over many gigawatts of production. A new modern coal fired plant has a huge advantage over natural gas in that there is a 300 year coal reserve in the USA and the fuel cost is less than half the cost of cheap natural gas per MWh. Natural gas is premium very clean burning fuel and should be reserved for home heating and large transportation uses such as ships. Wind turbine generators use and solar electric panel use are made largely possible by cheap to build and fuel natural gas combined cycle plants. Predicting natural gas supply more than ten years in the future is very difficult. Natural gas wells are most productive during their first few years then can fall off greatly requiring continues new wells. Much of natural gas is thought of as a by-product of crude oil exploration which has greatly subsidized the discovery of natural gas. Global waring was officially reported at 1.1°C in 1991 and in 2022 global warming was officially reported at 1.06°C. All the greenhouse radiant energy from the earth is completely absorbed by greenhouse gases in earth's greenhouse effect within 20 meters of the surface. if you do the math, it is about 1lbs of extra trash per year, per person... forget that, here is the math: one blade weight: 5 tones, thus 15 tones per turbine. each turbine has an operating lifecycle of 20 years, and generates about 2MW (closer to 3MW but lets error on the side of caution).
