As seen by the script for dragon maid being butchered by that joke of VA that played as Lucoa. Also fun fact: she also played as some of the raunchiest characters back in the early 2010s. So her doing that was more than a little hypocritical.

This is what happens when a single company gets to become the biggest and most powerful and basically a default Monopoly. I've watched US anime companies slowly die out over the last few decades and it's been highly depressing. But watching two of the worst become the top dogs and then the two top dogs merge into one has been the worst experience as someone who loves this medium.
The fact after everything what we have is FUNimation dressed up as Crunchyroll is the worst of the worst.

For those that may be confused (like Crunchyroll) about why having the plasma TV instead of the holograms is such a big deal if Miku isn't real anyway. 2 other points she mentioned:
    1. The Japanese band members that usually perform at her expos won't be there, it's some other random musicians.
    2. They forbid cameras at these performances cause the flashes can interfer with hologram's performance. That rule is still in place however, likely to help cover up the changes made.

Welcome to the 99% losers in market competition, your paid trip is now going to some crawdad hunt. No doubt funded by some national park foundation, a SOCIAL expense.
It was always an insane supposition that "free market" would somehow show the winning horse PRE-EMPTIVELY to the contest. THIS IS the contest, Crunchyroll is allowed to participate and will not be the first to the finish line. EVERY purchase is a bet on bad odds, and every win is a bet on rigged ones. You buy the most popular thing because the popular thing only allows for controlled opposition, and it's as good as the controlled economy has the whim to spend on it.
If capitalism works then Putin is fairly elected. Votes ARE just a steeply controlled currency that nobody is allowed to trade, because markets would make election wins based on who pays the most. Which by the way is 100% prediction rate in USA, the winning party also spends most money on the campaign. That means not a single MERIT has EVER closed that gap of SLIGHTLY paying less but still won on merit.

I've been able to take part in one of those concerts back in 2016 and it was a blast! The merch sold out faster than you could blink and it was basically a huge party!
While I was quite a bit younger then (duh) it was really amazing to see the hologram technogoly I thought was really futuristic and incredible that they're able to make things work like that.
It was like a huge glass panel that was nigh invisible when the lights got dim and didn't hinder all the showlights and so on. The way they integrated the band was also quite something. It was a real live-concert with a fictional person as lead singer and entertainer and it all worked so seemlessly.
So I can totally relate to the disapproval of these people. Not only is the big black screen disrupting the immerson, it takes away almost all of the magic such a concert should have. Then again, crunchyroll am I right? Not saying Crypton isn't to blame here, but eh. Hoping they get at least a partial refund or a proper consolation for this...

  • @LordAziki

There are several other issues with the expo.
Everybody with a VIP ticket was meant to get a special bag, but Portland had more VIP tickets than bags.
People were prohibited from bringing their own penlights unless they were from a previous Miku Expo because they would interfere with holograms (along with other restrictions which clearly imply holograms would be used(, and the stock of penlights being sold at each venue isn't enough for everybody to get one.
The original ticket price was already higher than other Miku Expos, meaning people pay more for a worse experience.
Scalpers had started reselling tickets for hundreds of dollars, but staff disabled ticket resales after people started reselling tickets as low as $5 in light of the issues.
Aside from disabling ticket sales, staff have been silent about the disappointment.
There is also speculation that the glass screen and hologram tech are at Coachella for a show that isn't even for Vocaloid fans, but I haven't seen that confirmed.

Straight up, it would be cheaper to go to Japan and buy the most expensive tickets for Magical Mira than pay for 2024.
