R.I.P Leiji Matsumoto. Without you inspiring Daft Punk and helping them with this, one of my favorite films/music videos might not ever have been made. Thank you.
Is that supposed to be him at the end as a child or something? I don't remember that part being there the last time I saw this... Which was admittedly like six years ago or so.
8:09 I just noticed that the agent has a photograph on his desk of himself and the Crescendolls in their true forms! As if we needed further confirmation of how much he genuinely cares about them. Why is this guy so pure. I love him.
as a 20 year old guy, this visual album is one of very few movies that almost brought me to tears (and with NO dialog)- the method in which this story was told is absolutely beautiful and timeless. The effect music has, to bring people together is magnificent and will be prevalent for an eternity and then some. For a moment it made me feel for moment that there was nothing but good vibes throughout the entire universe. I'm grateful content like this exists in the world, because it encouraged me to work at my craft, create awesome stuff- hopefully for the benefit of the world.
Well, after thinking it over, I think the boy at the end exists on the same level of reality as the crescendolls, because he a: has dolls of the brainwashed band, which based on the movie's plot would definitely be easy to get, and b: because he has multiple types of crescendolls merchandise. Considering how musicians creating toys of themselves doesn't conflict with the movie's message of creator freedom, it's likely the non-brainwashed crescendolls would create dolls of themselves. Of course, this point would be redundant if the kid only owned the action figures, but he also owns some plushies and what I assume is a toy that moves and plays music. These 2 points are my argument that the crescendolls weren't imagined by the boy and they are real people in the reality he exists in.
Came for One More Time, got absolutely obsessed with the Interstella 5555 story. I regret nothing! Absolute masterpiece of a collaboration between Daft Punk and Toei!

And what do they do to relieve stress? They jam, millions of things on their mind, but the first thing they do, grab their instruments and start working on a new jam, or maybe play an old jam, or maybe work through something. That's a band, that's a team, that's FAMILY.
Same here. It gave me so much relief seeing them return safely to their world and doing their own thing again. Traumatized and exhausted by what they had to endure up until that point, but atleast they can go back to enjoy living their psychedelic care free lives. I love the little details. Like you can tell the band's style has been influenced by their time on Earth. They're not the same as when they started this journey. Experiences good and bad have shaped them. This is a true work of art.
Reminds me of what i learn in church especially this verse from the bible: "and we know that all things work for good for those who love God, for those called according to His purpose"
if a little kid like ist dreaming of a psycho, which is capturing some aliens to manipulate them and make money out of them and put them in a fucking lavastone, i would recoment a psychologist :D even if the music is damm good
It's a movie called Interstella 5555: The 5tory about the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem. It uses the Discovery album to tell the story, and thus has no dialogue, and very little sound effects. Trust me it's very very well worth the watch! I've watched it 3 times this year alone!
1:07 oh snap, the synth pad is building! 1:37 the bass drops! 2:37 it mixes and boosts! 4:27 it starts kicking! 5:09 bass kicks hard! 6:09 the mantra starts 🤩 6:40 it all kicks together!
The first time I saw the movie in its entirety I cried but I enjoyed myself. Today watching this makes me cry not because Daft Punk broke up but the scene where you see people all over the world just United in their love for music. In that one moment people were getting along and it was beautiful.
I actually cried because I felt the same way. It made me really wish that the world were that open and embracing with one another. Will it ever happen I dont know but I want to do my part to try and make it happen and hope we can all get there together someday.
"The dangers of space are hostile to us all." -John F. Kennedy The Space Race and onward is full of touching stories of disparate people doing their part to bring astronauts home safely. One example: The Soviet Union ordered all radio communication, within their territory in the frequency bands that NASA used to communicate with Apollo 13 and neighboring bands, shut down in the hours before and during their reentry and landing to minimize anything else going wrong. I tear a little every time I type this out, and this is just one example.
Stacie Chan Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem where 5omeone 5natched 5tella and the Cre5cendoll5, and 5hep had to re5cue them ba5ically 5acrificing him5elf and 5tella didn’t even give him a ki55
MrPants432 what are you talking about ? This is high art. They made a decent storyline, created an anime about aliens and put it all in for a soundtrack for one band. Put them all together and it becomes a masterpiece. Sure noone ever talks and its kind of silly how the only sound in the cartoon is music but you gotta understand that if you watch it and see the characters emotions and interactions along with the music making the tone and mood for it then you can see that this is 100 percent pure art. If this isnt deep then idk what is
The word decent should not apply anywhere in the description of a "Masterpiece". I understand that emotion plays a strong part in what makes this good, but let's be honest with ourselves, it's not exactly a challenging story. I'm not arguing that Interstella5555 is without value, but let just not go straight to the top shelf with our descriptors.
Eric M This is very postmodern. French guys making a silent film, anime, scifi set to disco electronica. Whether you like it or not does not affect the artist's attempt at making high art.
Am I the only one who's always moved by the ending of this great house musical ? The joy of the band's return, the tribute to a hero who sacrificed himself to save others, the fact that such a beautiful story was dreamed up by a little boy's imagination...? For me, as a father of an almost four-year-old son, the end of the clip is absolutely moving. Cleaning up the toys, bringing the son to his bed and his happy smile. My son loves house music. If I ever get to experience a scene like that, I'll shed tears of emotion.
You realize that he probably never met them in person before saving them, right? That or some of them knew him when they were kids but lost touch as they got older. Basically Stella was Shep's crush, idk why she'd fall for him so fast unless they already knew each other.
@@abadgurl2010 I always chalked it down to Shep and Stella actually having known each other and been a couple the whole time. That the dream sequence and how she fell in love with him instantly was because she got her memory back and thus, remembered their relationship and that they were in love.
@@CharlieTheSupersaurusthis actually makes so much sense, since they were just performing when they were kidnapped, so perhaps he is used to just leave her to 'work' and wait for them every time. But at the same time, it makes the story hurt even more...
My father gave me Discovery at age 8, then talked to me about his time in Desert Storm and unloaded ("just about") everything. I got to watch my father strip his first layer of fear and take a step towards recovery. Thank you Daft Punk for giving my father enough space between the creases to maintain his humanity. Daddy, if you ever read this. I know the divorce wasn't anyone's fault. No, I'm not mad or broken up about it. Yes, I love you and yes, you're crazy but you'd be boring if you weren't. Anyone else think that the kid just might be Shep reincarnated? I mean, when he died, his soul went off into space, and along with it a small light. The 2 specific dolls the kid has at the end are the Stella and Shep dolls, bit of an odd choice, why not all of them? And Stella stared at the statue, then at the sky, with the camera zooming out in a similar fashion to when Ship's soul went to space. Maybe he's got a second chance at a happy ending in another life, another world. What do you mean I'm probably over analyzing this because I want a happy ending for Shep?
In my opinion it might be the kid inspired in his parents make a kind of romantic history based on them {You can see the mother looks like the blonde girl who name i dont remember}
I'm nearly as old and its disturbing to think I was still relatively young when DP hit it big. This movie/video series is over 20 years old I only stumbled upon it about a year ago, and I'm a Matsumoto fan.
I was 11 years old when I first found this mini movie. I fell so helplessly in love with everything about it. The music, the story, especially the hero. It's crazy to come back 5 years later, now that I've grown and matured, to find that I still have the same respect and appreciation for this. The album will always hold a special place in my heart.
My favourite song in the whole album, I literally grew up with daft punk and still love it after so many years, I'm so grateful Thomas and Guy-man existed and did this 💗 I hope they read this and know they saved lives, filled childhoods and changed lives
Yeah, cartoon network was where I first saw the vid for One More Time. I had only seen it once as a kid but my memory preserved enough for me to look it up back in high school/early college. Definitely one of my top fav movies.
Cartoon Network got me into this music. I saw it on Toonami around new years or something. This album and the gorillaz was on back to back videos. I was tight i had to go and couldn't watch.
+Commodore1236 yea this whole movie is pretty nostalgic i remember watching it about 6 years ago and seeing clips from it now reminds me of how awesome both the movie and the music is :D also discovery was the first album i ever bought so definitely nostalgic haha
This series makes me feel something that I cant explain in one sentence. It makes me feel like I'm experiencing my whole life in one whole set of music videos. To when my own father abandoned his family to now me listening in bed. To when I had my firt crush to when I hugged the person that made me feel the same thing. To when I found my cat to when I lost my cat. Mia my cat was my source of happiness after the stress of school my cat would come through the window. She is gone now and no one in my family cares. Please it would mean earth and heaven if you paid respect to my poor kitty In memory of my kitty Mia
Oh god, to todays kids this is considered old now and out of date.... This whole movie and album will never be out of date, it shall be forever treasured because its just a giant masterpiece
It's a really sad ending but with hope. I think the kid is remembering what happened by playing with his dolls. This is one of the best movies to exist if not the best one! I love how there are no words spoken but you don't need them because of the music.

Kinda ironic. That old guy set to connect the universe in his own twisted image, only to inadvertently have us unite against him through the very music he sought to control us and to an extent the universe.
I like how is humanized in one scene, the one where his father dies and he grows in to a bitter heartless adult. It's only like 5 seconds, but it adds a lot to the character.
So, these alien pop stars from another world are abducted, and brought to earth by a man who was possessed and made immortal by an alien meteor...Sounds about right.
The sweetest thing of this ending is that Shep and Stella's dolls are seen together in that kid's bed. They'll be together forever in his dreams and imagination.

On spotify its 10:00...way too long
It's just one less second tho XD tbh it gives me anxiety that it's not perfectly 10 min on here bc it SHOULD be, but I guess it's bc it's the music video and not the audio video itself, but still I hate that it's only 9:59 lol, I didn't even notice 'til you said so oof
Its a joke bc the song is named too long
I love the little details.

Samurai Champloo is a must watch anime.
It's a movie called Interstella 5555: The 5tory about the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem. It uses the Discovery album to tell the story, and thus has no dialogue, and very little sound effects. Trust me it's very very well worth the watch! I've watched it 3 times this year alone!

@@WinReset yeah
The first time I saw the movie in its entirety I cried but I enjoyed myself. Today watching this makes me cry not because Daft Punk broke up but the scene where you see people all over the world just United in their love for music. In that one moment people were getting along and it was beautiful.
I actually cried because I felt the same way. It made me really wish that the world were that open and embracing with one another. Will it ever happen I dont know but I want to do my part to try and make it happen and hope we can all get there together someday.
"The dangers of space are hostile to us all." -John F. Kennedy
The Space Race and onward is full of touching stories of disparate people doing their part to bring astronauts home safely.
Yeah I'm not trying to cry /again/...
Through that part I was singing around the world

I'm 42 and this never gets old. I rips me up and then fills me with love. 20yrs strong.
I gotta admit this whole anime in general with the Discovery album music is really deep.
Nah... not really deep at all. Not to say it's not good, or can't illicit powerful emotions, but we're not talking high art here.
Its not a masterpeice when you dont put decency into it at all
Eric M This is very postmodern. French guys making a silent film, anime, scifi set to disco electronica. Whether you like it or not does not affect the artist's attempt at making high art.
An amazing ending to an underrated story through this album's movie

Diann Song very possible, because who else would know about the love between them both?
No maybe your right, it might be possible.
Caramba. Você tem toda razão
In my opinion it might be the kid inspired in his parents make a kind of romantic history based on them
{You can see the mother looks like the blonde girl who name i dont remember}
Diann Song not just that, but he has the little music thing shep gave Stella.

I like how is humanized in one scene, the one where his father dies and he grows in to a bitter heartless adult. It's only like 5 seconds, but it adds a lot to the character.
You are one the reason why I keep reading comments.
