A few things to clarify on disassembly: - NO PRYING IS NEEDED TO DETACH THE FRONT COVER! There is a flexible plastic tab accessible from the left side of the "grille" which simply needs to be pushed inward to unhook, while pulling the front cover away from the projector. The front cover "hinges" from the lens side. Metal tool not recommended since it will just scratch/mar the plastic. - REAR COVER MUST BE REMOVED BEFORE SLIDING INTERNALS OUT OF THE CASE! Otherwise you will snap the power button's plastic hinge, or otherwise damage buttons, as was done in this video! Removing the full-length shim at the lens side partially frees the projector internals to slide towards the lens side. Use a blunt tool to push on the lanyard loop (beside the USB port) until the internals slide inward maximally. This unlocks the rear cover and allows it to hinge out and detach, much like the front cover. Keeping the internals pushed towards the lens side, you safely slide them out.
This video is pure gold. It saved me 6 months ago but the red/white flashing LEDs happened again when I went to use it last week. I went through the battery short circuit process but it didn't work. The battery measured 1.8V (really low), so I desoldered it and charged it in a lipo charger (1S 3.4Ah). Soldered it back in and still had the white and red flashing LEDs. The battery voltage was 4V. Thought I'd bricked it, but came across this gem: - Connect power - Hold down power button - Disconnect power when orange LED turns on - Reconnect power - Release power button After that it booted up fine. Everything working as normal. Hope that helps someone.
Ok I was not getting the orange led at all when charging. Also turning on power makes the red and white blink. Doing ur steps with connect disconnect power brought back the power led to orange as charging. Let’s see if it turns back on.
I was skeptical but desperate and IT WORKED. YOUR VIDEO SAVED MY PROJECTOR! It was hard to see what you did with the forceps and the + & - terminals inside but once I zoomed in manually, it was clearer. You're the best! THANK YOU so much!
@@Sokol_ Because science. And so we don't have to. I personally love seeing a good teardown and, while I own one of these and would prefer never to do this myself, I'm glad there's a concise repair video out there in case mine somehow shits the bed.
Thanks for sharing this superb instructional video. My pocket projector was not working and sony refused to repair it and service centre personnel told there was no repairable parts and it was not repairable. I came across your video and tried the same with my projector and it started working!! The tricky bit was short circuting the battery leads with a conducting metal wire. To the people trying this, you'll notice heating up of the wire if its worked properly. Also Joystick tends to break if you push it too hard when re inserting the circuitboard to case be careful!! thanks once again for the help
Our Sony MP-CL1 had both lights on solid, we could not reset or power on or off (tried holding power down for more than 10 seconds). The projector was unusable, a brick. This method worked! Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks a lot. Mine was not used for 2 years. When I backed to it and tried to charge it both led went on and never managed to turn on the projector. That short circuit resolved it.
I just fixed mine, thanks! Use a piece of metal (I used a paper clip) to touch where both wires connect to the board at the same time (only briefly or it might damage the device!). This short circuits the connection and forces a reset.
Thank you! Now it's working fine.. I had both lights on for several days no keys combo working.. alive but dead! Finally I found this video and now it is working fine.. watched 2 movies after that.. again.. thank you
I was about to throw mine out, so I decided to give this a try. I opened it up, tapped the power leads and viola... it works. I'm leaving it open until I know it won't need a reset in the near future. If it works for a week or so, I'll close it up. If not, I'll try the reset again and either look for a new battery or rig up some sort of new easy open case so I can do it as needed. I just worry that when I put it back together the buttons will break off so I'd rather move it as little as possible.
To unlock the battery protector, you just have to press down the power button while you conect and disconect the power cable. Then let it charge for a while and use it as normal.
Thank you. I opened up my Sony MPCL1A using the method. The battery had swollen and it was quite difficult to take out. Now will find an alternate 3.8v battery and fix it (it doesn't work without a battery). Will give the device a new lease of life and will run for a couple more years now.
@@autocuidado2675 I am not using a battery. I am using 5.5V 1F super capacitor. I power the projector using battery bank that charges the super capacitor. I also connect speakers via wire as the super capacitor is only 1F and cannot provide enough current to internal speakers.
@@Brian6374786 I got a 5.5V 1F supercapacitor. 5.5V is the voltage and 1F is 1Farad, which is the capacity. Unlike the battery, the capacity will deplete within a few seconds if used. Also remember, regular capacitor won't work. It has to be a supercapacitor. Minimum value should be 1F and voltage should be more than max voltage of battery, which means voltage has to be more than 4.2V. For my setup, I cut the battery wires. Of the wires coming from Sony unit, I connected the positive red wire to positive of supercap, and black negative wire to negative of supercap. When I power the unit, instead of charging the battery, which no longer exists, the supercapacitor is charged. Also, more F value will lead to better results. My 1F just works if I am able to start the unit in time and requires slight precision while turning on. It has been so many years now and it is still working - I did use it a month ago. I found one example of using Supercap at ruclips.net/video/6ChRS73yIN4/видео.html Good luck
How would I go about finding a battery replacement. This solution worked for the two lights stuck on, but it looks like my battery has expanded with gas/air and will not fit back into the case. Tried to provide some room on the sides for it to expand to, but doesn't seem like a good option and still doesn't fit. Thank you for the video!
Opening the impenetrable! Well done on getting in there. Not so sure about shorting the battery though. If this has you still with white and red lights flashing, de-solder the battery, charge at 400mA till 3.5v and re- solder connections. Plug in the USB and it should continue to charge the battery up to full. It should turn on with a long press on the power button. Good luck.
***DO NOT SHORT CIRCUIT YOUR BATTERY!*** This video is very useful on how to get it apart, so thank you for making this, but it is ***NEVER*** a good idea to short circuit a battery. ***ALWAYS*** disconnect it through other means. You can cut the wire, then strip the insulation, twist them together, and tape them as an alternative, or if you have a soldering iron and trust yourself, use that. Again, great video on how to get the thing open, but use other means for disconnecting the battery. Short circuiting it could permanently destroy the projector, make the battery swell up and/or catch fire, etc.
Seriously, looks like these instructions ruined Jimmy Ong's battery in these comments. It would probably just be better to desolder the battery leads if that's actually the issue. This is really dangerous.
