Lord Jamar on Role in "The Night Of," KRS-One Defending Afrika Bambaataa

- Lord Jamar stopped by VladTV to speak about his new role on the HBO's eight-part series, "The Night Of," which he applauded for authentically portraying how police treat families of inmates. He then added, "They want to make it an unpleasant experience so that there will be a disconnect between you and probably your family member. So that you won't want to go there [and visit them]."
During the conversation, Lord Jamar was also asked his thoughts on KRS-One defending Afrika Bambaataa against claims that he sexually abused young boys years ago. During a recent talk, KRS-One told a crowd in England, "When you're talking about Afrika Bambaataa, first of all, you're talking about the person who invented hip-hop; not participated in it. There was no hip-hop before Afrika Bambaataa. Let's start there, so anyone who has a problem with Afrika Bambaataa should quit hip-hop."
Lord Jamar reacted to the statement by saying that he respected KRS-One, but he added that he doesn't agree with what he said. To hear more of what Lord Jamar had to say about the situation, and pedophilia in general, hit the above clip.

KRS-One's defense of Bambaata was no surprise. Anyone who reads up on KRS's philosophy knows that he's a bit nutty and views Hip Hop as a religion, with key people like Herc, Bambaata, and Flash as its divine prophets. He views others like Nas, Rakim, and himself as disciples and prophets. The dude wrote a biblical-style "testament" about Hip Hop and he truly believes Hip Hop culture was divinely sent by a higher power to save Black/urban people. He also says Hip Hop would/should replace Christianity. He's out there.
Craziest thing KRS-One said was during an interview -- he said he called up Nas one day and told him to speak to NASA about bringing Hip Hop to Mars. Nas hung up on him.

Damn I usually love and agree with KRS-one, however I guess it's proof that he's human. However no one is to be considered untouchable and if they are it's based on how upstanding they are not because we give them g passes.
He meant beyond disapproval from the world. He thought the problem should be handled internally, so he was coming from more of a FOI mindset. So I don't think he meant leaders are infallible. Coming from someone who doesn't trust the system, it (sort of) makes sense. I'm not agreeing with him, but he didn't mean pretend like it didn't happen or it was okay.

of Season 1 of the landmark British Mini-series "Criminal Justice".
Having seen both versions I recommend the original as superior on all levels.
Ben Whishaw is subtly awesome in the lead, compared to the lacklustre Riz Ahmed.
HBO lost much of the crucial essence of this brilliant show when they "jazzed it up"
and "translated" it for American audiences. Anyway, please check out the original
Season 1.
