  • Working my way through some running issues with the Mobility Kadett D Astra Mk1 including changing the distributor, fuel pump and starter motor as well as opening up the carburettor.

The distributor is probably the culprit. Maybe a good service and a carb rebuild may help as well but keep going Senan you'll get Mobi running smoothly in no time.

I have to decide whether to rebuild a twin choke Webber I have for it or rebuild the original Variget. If I see signs that the Variget can work well I’d rebuild it. Anyway I’m slowly getting my head around how it works by tinkering with it for now.

The Varajet is quite a complex carb. Personally i'd go for the twin choke Weber but that's up to you. Best of luck getting Mobi running smoothly.

hello... I have an opel ascona c but it won't idle and the car won't start unless I pour fuel into the carburetor. what can be the issue?? how do I fix it. please could you assist me.

If the jet in the carburettor isn’t blocked I’ve often had Opels draw in air along the fuel lines so check all your connections and the condition of your pipes.

Hi siri need help with my opel kadett it doesn't splak at engine

The starter motor could be sticky due to the engine trying to suck the fuel in. It was kicking back near the end.

Had mega problems with the cinquecento and it turns out that someone (me) had put the vacuum pipes on the wrong way round ie crankcase one where carbon cannister one goes. Little problem that had major effect on the engine.
You've got sparks fuel and the timing is set correct so the only thing left is a carburettor issue I think...

Thanks Terry, I've kept at this bit by bit while I was working on the Charade so I wouldn't be under too much pressure when I come to focus on Mobi full time, before my Uncles visit.

Did you check or change the coil as it usually fails when warm , timing needs to be spot on as well

Dirty carb or weak coil hmm or the dreaded compression test :( great vid to watch very hard to work and film fair play

I’m a bit further on than this video now. Cleaning carb helped a bit as did changing coil but there’s a bit of a surprise next week.

1st id check is the spark plugs

Thanks I did Ruairi, they were soaked I dried them out, I tested them out, with leads on and they were all sparking. Didn't get everything on film, a bit of a challenge trying to film and work things out on the fly.

could you show how to regulate idle? I have opel corsa 1.0 ohv 1982 :)

No start I would always check for strong spark since there was fuel in the bowl.

I checked and had good spark at the time I was sorting the timing belt a few videos ago. Something was getting progressively worse.

When you were cranking it using the first starter it sounds like timing issues.Good luck.

You have a Varajet II Carburator ... Too complicated !
So you changed the fuel pump you have fuel in the carburetor ( Remove the cleaner so to see if the carburetor levers moves )
Check for spark in the plugs
If you have spark then its timing issue
You need a lamp but with trial and error you can do it up to a point
IF the Varajet has an Autochoke too...... better to replace the autochoke unit or the carburetor itself for a Weber DMTL

Thanks Dimitris, that's more good advice. I've got a reliable little Solex that I think I'll try on it first, I wanted to to fiddle with the Varajet for a while and get to know it a little better. I am aware of their reputation but the one on George the Estate that I had worked well but had probably been well maintained. In the next video you'll see one surprise that was definitely holding me back. ruclips.net/video/VSvyNhqVMLs/видео.html
