How mad is this! Tune in for my weekly fix to find that Guy has included the story of my driver fitting. Even though I don't really like the look of it, I did in fact try both the Stealth and Stealth Plus during the process (why not, may as well try everything). Didn't work at all for me. Yes they have some long hits in there when struck well, but in my opinion the overall forgiveness just isn't there for the average club player. I agree that there will be lots of people want to try them but will come out with something else that's a better fit

I had the same fitting experience (at a Club Champion), and I was so grateful to the fitter. Didn't charge me for more than an hour of his time, gave me some swing tips, told me to come back in six months when my swing was more under control. Obviously disappointing in the moment, but I've been really motivated to improve and go back and give that fitter my money.

For me the worst feeling is a 300-yard drive, center of the fairway, setting up an easy 110 wedge into the pin. Only to chuck the second shot hard and leave it 30 short of the green.

Another excellent show. The show always starts my work day off right when I'm doing some office stuff. On the worst golf moments, shanks are definitely my most hated golf experience. Nothing gets into my head more than a shank. Some of those situations are laugh-out-loud funny, and I've experienced pretty much all of them!🤣 I had also thought about getting a fitting done, and probably will when I replace my driver, but I've had excellent results just watching YT lessons from a few different sources. Your tips, Matt, Pete, Padraig Harrington. Great tips from all that have helped me identify areas to help me get more solid striking. I can't recommend highly enough setting up your phone in line and recording your swing. One session and I immediately spotted a flaw that is easily fixed that is about 90% of my inconsistency.

Loved the Rough at Bay Hill, the greens not being able to hold a single shot though is wrong. You should be rewarded for accuracy and punished for inaccuracy.

Next winter, if you need a course to play with genuinely ridiculous drainage due to it being hilly and with clay under the soil meaning the water just runs away, come to stockwood vale golf course. Never shuts unless it is foggy or there is a storm like Eunice. Was shut for weather no more than 4 days last year.

In regard to lessons, the one thing that helped me the most was my phone. 1) I asked if I could record a few swings with his thoughts. 2) When I practiced, I recorded myself and I could visually compare myself with pro swings. Obviously, it was night and day, and humbling, but it visually gave me things to work on to better my swing. It so much easier to understand what you should work on with both verbal instruction and the added visual aid.

I bought my first ever brand new driver this year and was excited to try Stealth. I tried the new Ping, Mizuno, Cobra, Callaway, and Stealth. The Stealth was the first driver I cut. I was accurate with it but I wasn't getting good distance with it. I ended up with a Callaway Rogue ST Max. The distance and spin rate were better than any driver I tried or used in the past.

  • @scotthansen4692
    @scotthansen4692 2 года назад +1

Tried a few of them (Callaway, Stealth, Mizuno and Ping) Stealth hit it far but all over the place. They were able to tighten it up but just didn't feel confident. Ping, is a personal thing, just don't like the feel or sound. Callaway, solid club solid hits. Confident and it was a very close second. Funny enough, I ended up with the Mizuno STZ 220, this driver is point and shoot and was so close to the Callaway on distance. I heard every review saying Mizuno wasn't a bomber and after hitting it, who cares. I hit it farther than my 2 year old driver but in the fairway every time. no bad hits. Mizuno way underrated.

Great show as usual! Regarding the Stealth.. I put it into play in place of a Callaway Epic Speed and I have gained in pretty much every category. I swing at around 114-115mph and the plus for me is longer and straighter than the Callaway or Cobra from this year. Different strokes for different folks!

Kudos to that American Golf fitter! When going for a fitting there's always that niggling feeling at the back of your mind, that you'll be sold a club which is not 100% suited to your requirements, because maybe that is the make they've got to push that week or there's more commission on it! Hearing that one act of honesty, has given me back some trust in the retail setup. Maybe it's just the cynical side of me, but from a big retailer like AG, a pleasant surprise.
    Good show guys. 👍

  • @link5059
    @link5059 2 года назад

I had a fitting at AG last year for a driver and I wasn't hitting the ball well at all. The fitter gave me a quick tip which instantly transformed my swing. Having started the fitting initially wanting the Ping G425 based on all the great reviews and stunning looks, I tried out lots of different drivers finally settling on a new Callaway which was performing well above the rest. I then asked him if he had any older models as I wasn't sold on the looks and couldn't stomach the price. I finally left the store with a 2/3 year old Callaway Epic in great condition with a fitted shaft for a fraction of the price which I was still hitting amazingly well. Moral of the story - if you don't ask you don't get.

I recently got fit for the Stealth and have played 4 rounds with it and have seen vast improvement in my driving. I got the Stealth HD, I am 67 years old have a problem with a fade (sometimes slice) and it has straightened out my swing to a degree I am gaining 10 to 20 yards off the tee. I have always used Callaway drivers traded the previous Rogue model. So it isn't that I am a Taylor Made guy.

Don't mind seeing the pros struggle, but Bay Hill was setup badly for the conditions. Didn't actually enjoy watching it.
Liked the rough being grown to make hitting fairways important, but when you struggle to get the ball to hold a green from the fairway, that's a bit too far. Plus there was no way you could shoot at pins, only way they were getting close was if they miss-hit hit and got a lucky bounce.
Bit too OTT for my liking.

Great podcast guys. I went out and tested the Stealth and Rouge ST a couple of weeks ago, and put it up against my Rogue, which I bought last spring. Did not care for the Stealth. Not as forgiving as the Rogue ST or my Rogue. I would have bought the Rogue ST if I hadn't just bought my Rogue last year. But before I would have done that I would have hit the Ping and Cobra drivers.

My friend and I went golfing to a course that's an about and half away from home or so. I usually buy decent balls middle of the range price range. I have some sleeves of ProV1s I'll use when I'm playing well, well on Sunday I bought myself a sleeve of TP5s because I kept hearing they where comparable to Pro Vs. This course in is British Columbia, Canada, so a mountain course. First few holes I used my already played balls i had and didn't lose one. First shot with the brand new green TP5 and I bomb it high and right with driver into the woods. No one behind us and a slow group in front. I searched the woods for 10 mins until the group in front had moved on to the next hole and couldn't find my bright flourecesnt TP5 on black forest ground. I found 15 other balls, at least 10 looked new as well but mine was no where to be found. Even though I came out with a couple ProV1s. A TP5 and a Tp5x I was still pissed my one shot ball had vanished. I wasn't playing well that day either which added to the fire. When you plan a golf trip out of town and are so madly excited for the trip and just don't have a good feel on the course. Being a mountain course I kept getting the worst above, below and side hill lies. Lol. That's golf. I love it.

Exactly my experience with the Stealth. Went to buy a driver for the first time in a couple decades (decided to really take golf seriously this year; been away from the game for almost ten years), aiming to try the Rogue, Stealth, and G425 - pretty much thinking I'd want the Stealth (Guy's right; great marketing). Swung all three, and the Stealth was far and away the least comforting for me behind the ball. Walked out with the Rogue, and been quite happy with it. Admittedly, I'm a complete duffer; never broken 100.

Hi guys, I know this is abit late on but I do hope you see this!
I currently have the titleist tsi3 in the bag however at my local golf club in the pro shop was the Taylor made stealth anyhow the pro gave me the demo while he was away to have a play about with and to see what I thought of it, the first time round I had the wrong shaft in (black hazardous) which was too stiff for me so we swapped it over to the hazardous red. So one night last week I took my bag with the tsi3 and the stealth to the driving range with my launch monitor, I was pleasantly surprised that the Taylor made went 14 yards longer then the tsi3 however the consistency of the stealth was absolutely no where near the tsi3 which isn’t seen as a forgiving driver as you know, the spin numbers were very similar between the 2 but however the ball speed was actually faster with the tsi3!
Also had a few holes with the stealth tonight on the course after work and seemed to get on a little better with it but for me the titleist just feels and sound so much better I feel like a lot of people who play are all not getting on with them when they’ve gone for a fitting or trail with the stealth I just can’t put my finger on what it is ! Love the podcast guys keep it up 👍🏼

Went for a fitting 10 days ago and ended up comfortably choosing the Rogue Max. Tried Cobra and it was fine but wasn’t overly impressed with looks or sound. Tried Stealth and looked lovely behind the ball and sounded just fine but I couldn’t get it to work for me. (Average golfer 10 hcp)
I’ve got a TS3 just now and the Stealth reminded me of it in terms of shape and how ‘compact’ it looks. Wanted something that didn’t look too scary and something I don’t need to fight with too much.

My dad had the exact same situation with a driver happen. He hit loads of balls and a good 3 or 4 different heads. The fitter said the same thing, that he needs to fix his swing before he buys a new driver. Why buy a new driver to gain 2-5 yards with a bad swing, when a swing change could add 10+

I provide private lessons for baseball, mostly hitting. As you guys just described, the same thing happens in baseball. Players do well in a lesson then get into a game and naturally go back to their comfort zone. When they comeback for their next lesson, they are defeated. The best thing you can do it just reassure them it's a process. Also, a good instructor (which I know Rick is by his adjustment with the older gentleman) knows how to adjust their teachings student to student. Some need mechanical work. Some need a visual approach. Some need just one focal point - ex. strike location. Too may teachers out there than just grind one way. I feel the best results are when you allow the student to drive by expressing their expectations and desires. We then formulate a plan based on that.

I would love to have a course coach. Ok, you're on an uphill and side hill lie. This is where you want to stand...this is the club you'll want to use (why)...its deep so adjust your aim (why). Basically a course management coach would be great.

Regarding the feedback for the stealth driver I was fitted into a standard stealth 9 degree head with an aftermarket shaft; since getting it (all simulator rounds) overall I am loving the club but I do agree at times if my swing isnt quite sound it can be somewhat unpredictable, overall have seen more distance and consistency compared to my old driver (TM R15) but I will say during my fitting and from demoing the stealth plus was much harder to control and had a high risk/high reward feeling to it

The two lady members where half way up the second hole then waved me through. I hit amazing draw into the middle of the fairway . As i walked downthe fairwayi thanked the two ladies. 148 yards from flag thought nice steady 8 iron. Full of confidence i then chunk it and the ball went about 20 yards. Felt like a right bellend so i picked my ball up and disappeared over to the 3rd tee in embarrassment as quick as i could lol 😳

I'm a 16 handicap. Last week I was in Belek, Turkey...but I'm with mates who don't play golf. So i had to book a tee time on my own, expecting to join another group. I get a buggy because I've just been in Dubai and just expect everyone to be in buggies.
Turns out pretty much everyone else is walking, the course is full of 4 balls,, but the starter sends me out on my own. I've had no time to practice, havent played in 10 days, and have driven 5 hours that day. Theres a 4 ball watching me tee off...but i wimp out and just 5 iron it 170 yards so it's in play.
But everyone else is a walking 4-ball (and non English) and I'm invited to play through on 5 of the first 8 holes 😟. My games suffers accordingly, duffs, trees, shanks, you name it. Can't hit a ball. Feel the stares from every group waiting for me.
On the 9th I'm invited to play through again, but this time its a group of English lads so i can finally decline, explain the situation, and assure them they can play as slow as they like, i really really don't want to play through any more...
Hated that round, and it cost me £120 to boot...
So thats the worst thing in golf, repeatedly being asked to play through...

Love the discussion around Stealth vs others!
Do you think this is new since this model or are the SIM drivers the same? You always talk about >4 year old equipment isn’t drastically different so would you say the old pings (410) are comparable to the SIMs?

I’m waiting on a stealth plus to arrive , got a fit for it , I’m a member in a club with a trackman range , I’ve tried them all this year and I must say I’m addicted to the stealth , I tried it against a callaway but just couldn’t get on with it

Couldn’t agree more with the stealth driver. I think it’s gorgeous. Went to the golf shop with full intentions of walking out with it. Hit easily over 100 shots and it was disappointing. All over the place. Stuck with my 917 D3. Out performed the stealth by far!

When i was 15 my uncle who at the time was 0.4 handicap at Southerness Golf club so that tells u how good he is as Southerness is one of the hardest courses in Scotland. He tried to change my game to help me improve, I tried his method for weeks but it felt more forced than natural so had to revert back to my own way and thats why i never have and never would go for lessons, i would rather figure it out on my own, Lessons could help but i dont feel its the right thing for me..

When I saw the title my first thought was fatting after nailing the tee. Absolutely nothing worse than driving it to within a wedge of a long par 4 and fatting or getting within 6 iron of a par 5 and making a hames of it

What are your thoughts on stopping in the clubhouse at the turn for lunch? Most public courses in my area frown upon it want you to continue to the back nine. I prefer some lunch and reflection. What say you?

My local pro recently has got the new taylormade products in stock and I was itching to try the stealth and compare it to my ping g425, so anyway I took them both out on the course just to see any differences with whole “carbon face” chat and I have to say the stealth felt horrible… like guy said in the podcast it’s far from being forgiving… every drive with the stealth went straight right and the ping went up the middle every time🤷🏽‍♂️ so no brainier I’ll defiantly not be spending £479 on the stealth😄 loving the podcasts lads always a pleasure to listen keep it up👍🏻

I just bought a stealth driver, first new driver for four years and I love it however i do think it’s each to their own but I tried 5 drivers all from top manufacturers even some that were a year old and for some reason I just kept coming back and wanting to hit the stealth and the numbers for distance and accuracy backed that up weirdly though I hated the new cobra driver which should have suited me better again though it’s personal preference something that works for one may not work for another

In the clubhouse once again. Tuesday routine, back from the office, hoemwork with the kids, tuck them into bed grab dinner and a cuppa and then decamp to the manzone for some Rick and Guy.
The Ravi Shankar is always the killer as it is the shock and surprise that screws you as you spend the rest of the round waiting fore the next one.
Being played through smashing a striper down the middle and then thinning the approach shot like a hacker into a bush, gold !

So I went for a driver fitting and I didn’t even try the stealth because I just don’t get on with TaylorMade drivers also all the hype Put me off because not all pros use it so then why should I.
I currently am new to golf and the driver in my bag right now is the callaway square head neutral weight from 2007, I hit it roughly 240-255yards and I’m very consistent with my driver and in my fitting I hit the ping which I didn’t actually get on with also didn’t enjoy the sound of it so I hit the new callaway rogue LS and bombed it on my first shot 305yards and it kept happening even on my 10th shot with it, And i never felt more comfortable with that in my hand. So that’s now ordered and should be here within the next few weeks.
Ps the new callaway is a beautiful looking club

Look at the Taylormade Stealth launch film where Rory, Dustin, tiger doing long drive Comp and when you see them hit it, the results are so erratic!! This was not the case with sim 2

Funny you say about the stealth, was in Dubai recently and was speaking to the head pro at emirates golf course and at the Dubai dessert classic he was working with Taylormade and they were try to get mcilroy re fitted into the stealth on the range cause he would get this random high right shot now and again and Rory’s words on the range was “this product is shit” 😬 so totally understand average golfers not getting on with it
