Episode 2
Duanesburg to Esperance NY
Episode two is a continuation of the first episode. In this episode we learn about a Duanesburg resident who was responsible for building the first steam powered passenger train in America, and was the country’s first professional geologist. We then interview of the owner of the General William North Mansion. North was the son in law of NYC mayor James Duane and a member of George Washington’s inner circle during the American Revolution. He is also the founder of Esperance NY, the second half of this episode where we talk to the village historian and learn about the villagers shooting and killing a resident because they thought she was a witch in the 18th century. We also learn about villager Sheldon Jackson who first established reindeer in Alaska and who started churches and the first schools in Alaska.
Do you live in a historic community along one of America's earliest highways? Let us know and maybe we will do a show.
Lived on a farm in Delanson, NY a next door neighbor to both Esperance and Duanesburg, NY! What a beautiful country up there.
Presently live in Hyde Park, NY the hometown of President Franklin Roosevelt! Franklin is “The Wartime President”. And also the only president to serve more than two terms…due to World War II. It’s gorgeous country here too on the banks of the Hudson River . Thanks so much for your trip. I enjoyed it tremendously ❤.
Don enjoying your series. As a third generation Albanian. Thanks for shining a light on this historic road and the people along its path.
Thank you Sean.
Fantastic!

you're making me want to drive through Esperance on my next trip up there . . .
Friendly place unless you speak French LOL!!
John Jay, then Governor of New York, wanted Schenectady as the Capitol of New York
Fortunately it never happened. :)
