To those who make comparisons to the epic beloved original 1974 version, that's all cool. But please realize this 2024 version is NOT meant to replace it by any means. It's the 50th anniversary of the song and Michael is just doing an updated version to commemorate. 50 years since he first recorded with UFO. I am totally diggin' this update in the end times, woooo!
4 plus decades ago I was playing in an literally abandoned theater and along came Michael and we chatted in German and just started shredding,..It was awesome,..
Michael Schenker is that guitarist that you've felt like you've all but exhausted the "best of" list, then holy smokes, this dude can shred, and so tasteful and expressive.
Michael playing this LIVE on STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT was absolutely ELECTRIFYING ...I knew all his solos note for note as a young player ....& he taught me so much God Love Him. ....Hearing this NOW in 2024 is STILL emotional for me. (Paul)
Some of this solo is improvised but Michael also kept some of those beautiful set melody parts and catchy segments which he played on both Phenomenon (1974) and Strangers (1978)
Michael was & is one of the most emotionally articulate and melodically aware guitarists to ever walk this Earth bless him. We are all so lucky to have all the beautiful music & playing he has given us.
This sounds absolutely great. Michael Schenker has made such an incredible comeback in his life and he sounds tremendous. He is enjoying it and having fun. That is all that matters.
Average singer who sounds like 100 more or so in the rock world today. Don't see the point in this album, Schenker is superb as usual but there is only one man who should sing UFO songs
Holy shit!!!!!!! Amazing! I needed this bad...A nice trip back to my youth, when real music was life and love. Oh god, please bring back the 60' and 70's.
I loved this song when I first heard the studio version. I was blown away when I heard the live version with UFO. I have been lucky enough to see Michael play this twice. Can't wait to buy this!
This is the man that gets left out of the “great guitarist “ list and it’s a travesty! Have loved his work since the 70’s when I first heard UFO’s Strangers album
Those lists are based on mainstream audiences. Any rock fans worth their ears + years of exploring various artists know how awesome Michael Schenker as a guitarist (and Uli Jon Roth as well, All guitarists that played in Scorpions are awesome)
@spotsthecat7913 I could not agree more....big fan of Michael Schenker. The individual that I responded to indicated that Michael Schenker is often left off "mainstream" lists as a great player. I agree and believe that John Sykes, too, is often overlooked. Everyone talks about Hendrix, Rhodes, Page. From my perspective, I do not think that Tony Iommi gets the credit he has earned. Being a teenager in the 80s, I enjoyed the likes of those Sunset Strip band (I despise the term hair metal) players like DeMartini, Lynch, DeGarmo, Adrian Smith....hell, I don't believe that Alex Lifeson, Neal Schon, or Steve Clark get enough attention as great players. Although for me, the sun rises and sets to Ozzy fronted Sabbath, my favorite player to listen to is Ace Frehley. I know, I know, Ace is incredibly sloppy and frequently not in time, but these imperfections make Ace unique...when he plays even if out of tune, you immediately know that it is Ace. If you don't mind sharing, who are some of your favorites? I enjoy conversations like these and make me long for the days when I could read Circus and Hit Parader magazines.
I had the pleasure of meeting Michael when he rejoined UFO for their Walk On Water album and subsequent tour circa 1996. Michael is without a doubt one of my guitar heroes. Had a poster of him on my wall when I first started playing the guitar.🤟🤟🎸🥁💯
Michael is an innovator that’s so many try to emulate, but never duplicate his God given talent. Keep it going brother and I am a huge fan of Scorpions of one of my top 5 bands of all time and know your contribution to its history through the earliest years up until Lovedrive I know you have contributed your own ideas they used through many LP’s from beginning up till that particular LP scene in your interview, how the band did you which included your brother Rudolph always admired his Stage performance and contribution to the band, but do you know now you are a better lead guitarist and how you came to USA and got you a big car and your guitar and made your own way and have millions of fans and if greed was a problem with you not getting any royalties from your earlier performances and contributions from the Scorpions, I wouldn’t think that they would have done such, but regardless of what, you have came out and carried your talent and contributions to the highest mark in the rock in roll world. 😊
I hope MS will record the next albums IN THIS STYLE with great amazing singers lots of keyboards and tons of TASTE!!! And also a UFO tour would be VERY appreciated!
Pleased to see The Return of the Mad Axe Man and Kai having fun. Nice enough if this was a live jam but ultimately, nothing beats the original. When the drums roll in towards the end of THAT solo and everything lifts before dropping out for the riff, well...still gave me chills today when I listened again straight after this version. All hail Phil Mogg !
The original track has one of the greatest guitar solos of all time for sure and this new version is also cool. Michael is such an underrated guitar player!
Excellent! Kai does a great job on vocals too. see this live lately? Michael plays, (Medical I believe) one handed on half of the solos especially Rock Bottom. Yet he makes it magical and has actually come up with new tones and techniques that ring. Dynamite.
Wow - as a fan of this song for about 45 years I can say with some authority that Kai does a great job on this. True to the original, yet adds a bit but still with respect to Phil. But can the bass player throw insane shapes wearing spotted spandex outfits - that is the real question!
Michael is legendary guitarist in Japan and Europe, but he is not famous in US. I would like US rock fans to know his guitar works. You would be blown away!!!
