I love Yilan ❤️ that’s where I studied uni. I usually took bus from Taipei to Yilan, every time when the bus came out of tunnel, the view of the whole Lanyang plain, with Turtle Island aside the ocean always touches my heart ❤️ the down side was the traffic jam. Yilan has a country feel to it with many scenic places to go, I especially love riding scooter in Yilan around rural areas when after it rained, it has a bit smell of the grass in the air, which is very refreshing ☺️ The cafe looks adorable 😍 I want to visit Yilan right away❤️ And I’ve been to Taiping shan before but didn’t know the hot spring, I have to go! When I visited Japan, I always love going to hot springs, and I actually prefer the way in Japan, inTaiwan I guess we are more conservative going nudities in front of others haha, there’s only a few nude hot springs in Taiwan.
I like Japanese hot springs too just most I cannot enter unless it’s private because I have tattoos! And I would love to drive around on a scooter but alas, I can’t 😭 I did however get to see an awesome view of turtle island from the train ☺️
You're amazing Jen. You speak Japanese and now you try to speak Mandarin to the locals whenever you can. That is the respectful thing to do but very few people will do it. Kudos to you ☺️👍👍

I love how it started raining here in Hawaii as I watched your rainy vlog! Such a beautiful trip, I definitely will be adding Taiwan to my bucket list.
Hi Jennifer, I was born and grew up in Yilan, I feel so emotional attached after watching this video! All I can say is that you impressed me by picking out these locations to visit for your 3-day Yilan trip like a pro! I used to live in a small township called Sanxing under Taiping mountain, by which you must pass to get to the only entrance of forest recreation area. Our family went up to Jiuzhize hot spring every weekend in the winter when it was not that well known. Also, Wufengqi waterfall and Shengmu (St. Marian’s) hiking trail are both worth challenging if in a breezy sunny afternoon. I am glad you take a look and bring me there again via your point of view. I really appreciate how you tried to understand those historical stories behind each place. Watching your video made me encounter my reminiscing childhood memories. I started feeling a pang of homesickness in Boston!
I love the breakdown of everything you do, from how you get there to the total budget!! Super helpful for me, who just moved to Taiwan and is wanting to travel solo soon 😊😊😊 also, your Chinese pronunciation is really good!! So glad you’re having fun in Taiwan 💖

nice choice, lots of nice things around Ilan, (alt. spelling) my wife and I had so much fun stopping at 7 different places in one day by motorcycle there on our 2018 trip, (including a stop at SUAO Cold Spring (and in hot August, she was in that water very fast/ the big park was being renovated but Japanese style private rooms are there too across the street). Hey, that is where we stayed ,Grand Boss Hotel. directly across the street is a night market. **nice hot spring place there in your video, I went to one hot spring once in a river bed, with rocks around the sides, and very hot fresh spring water seeping out of the mountainside, but that was near LaLa Shan, or was Xing Xing Nung Shan area. Great Trip. Ilan has a great many things to see and do, a bit south they have an entire forest industry park that we stopped at on our way to Suao, and we returned up another road and stopped at the Traditional Arts center too, and even included a Bubble Tea Museum for a stop too (Crayon Factory, we did the shopping in the lobby/ not the full tour). many many things there.
Wow you guys went by motorcycle!? There were quite a few in the mountain. I could see that ride up and down being really fun with all the twists and turns ~
@@LayersOfJenn despite traveling lighter than ever before with my wife/ we still had a little too much to do the entire trip by motorcycle, so we combined trains busses and rental motorcycles in various places to get around more effectively and reduce miles on our feet, (and my wife knows I lived in Taipei from 1990-1993, so she doesn't worry about the driving and route) It was a great trip, odd how you can see almost as much in two weeks of vacation as you can in three years of weekends while busy with other things.

I can't wait to come back to Taiwan once it's safe to travel again, I was last there three years ago, and I'll definitely be visiting the mountain area and taking a tour - it is a little pricy just for one person but I'd probably travel with someone and after almost two years of going nowhere I think a little splurge is probably ok!
I've been super busy with work so only just got chance to sit down and watch but omg I loved it 😍 The onsen water reminds me of the blue lagoon in Iceland, or umijigoku in Beppu!

Hi Jenn, My name is Jen. Thank you for giving this awesome tour of Yilan which is my hometown, and I resides in Canada now. Those place were amazingly nice which I would visit them again when I travel back home. Your video is really informative:))))
A very nice tour! I think it was a little expensive for one person, but you had no other friends that could have gone with you to share the expenses. But, with all that being said, you still had a great time in Yilan! Thanks for sharing!
Glad to have stumbled on this! Very hopeful we can make our way to Taiwan someday this year! (But probably not when it's too cold 😂). Just subscribed and looking forward to seeing more of your content 🤗
There's a common saying in Taiwan that goes '竹風蘭雨'. That means 'Ilan is famous for raining while Cinchu is well-known for strong winds'. Your journey started from a kind of extremity and ended in another form of extremity. In fact the winds in Penghu are stronger than those in Cinchu during the wintertime but many tourists flocked to Penghu this year when this pandemic is wreaking havoc on the whole world and traveling abroad runs the risk of getting infected and involves loads of hassle.
Haha when you put it like that, I guess I did go from one weather extreme to another. And Hsinchu is def windy but I think I’ll like the wind in the summer when it’s hot 🔥
It was nice of the driver to help you film. This trip looked like so much fun! ~500 USD for three days isn't that bad, especially if the price will be cut by adding a few people to the trip.

Oops maybe I translated it wrong 😂😅
Oops haha I meant car sick like, motion sickness. Oops 😂😅 would a car motion sickness qualify as airplane sickness or ferry 🤔
@@LayersOfJenn
Lol....^O^
The logic in Mandarin is a bit different from English.
When you got motion sickness via A.
Then we would say 暈A.
So 暈"車" is that you got motion sickness via car.
暈"船" is that you got motion sickness via ferry, ship or boat..
暈:機" is that you got motion sickness via airplane, aircraft..
車 is the general word that we call the transportation with four wheels on the road.
船 is the general word that we call the transportation on water (river, sea..)
飛機 is the general word that we call the transportation with wings in sky.
機 means 飛機, when we say 暈機
11:54 金翼白眉(White-whiskered laughingthrush) or 台灣噪眉(Formosan laughing thrush)
I really like the budget aspect to your trip. It feels economical, like anyone could do it.

My name is Jen. Thank you for giving this awesome tour of Yilan which is my hometown, and I resides in Canada now. Those place were amazingly nice which I would visit them again when I travel back home. Your video is really informative:))))
Soooo good!! Thanks!!!
Thank you for watching !!
good stuff, great prounuciation, humble video. nice stuff
A very nice tour! I think it was a little expensive for one person, but you had no other friends that could have gone with you to share the expenses. But, with all that being said, you still had a great time in Yilan! Thanks for sharing!
idkk why but your vlogs i can watch and listen all the way through without skipping throughout the video
That is music to my ears ✨❤️
You are really awesome with such high quality footages full of information
Glad to have stumbled on this! Very hopeful we can make our way to Taiwan someday this year! (But probably not when it's too cold 😂). Just subscribed and looking forward to seeing more of your content 🤗
Thank you so much 😊
Wow,I really like your video,it's so woderful to introduce Taiwan scenery
There's a common saying in Taiwan that goes '竹風蘭雨'. That means 'Ilan is famous for raining while Cinchu is well-known for strong winds'. Your journey started from a kind of extremity and ended in another form of extremity. In fact the winds in Penghu are stronger than those in Cinchu during the wintertime but many tourists flocked to Penghu this year when this pandemic is wreaking havoc on the whole world and traveling abroad runs the risk of getting infected and involves loads of hassle.
Hsinchu is the right spelling.
