Hi Shelley! I am fairly new to cross stitch. My mom passed away 3 years ago and left me with lots of floss, ribbons and various crafting items. I found 7 hoops in her sewing room. I looked at them after watching your video and found 1 Dutchess hoop and 1 Princess hoop! Thank you for sharing the history of these beautiful hoops. They mean a lot to me knowing that my mom and grandma created beautiful heirlooms using the same hoops that I am learning to use. Have a wonderful birthday!, Beth
I thoroughly enjoyed today’s presentation. It was very insightful and thorough. I find floss tubes such as this to be more time worthy than just seeing a lot of patterns and WIPS being shown. Thank you so much.
I took a big box of wooden hoops to the Salvation Army thrift store about 6 months ago. I purchased them from auctions over the years and decided I didn’t really need hundreds of hoops! I hope someone was as excited to find them as you would be! ❤
I have never seen such antique hoops before. One of them (the one without the screw) reminded me of my grandma's hoops I used when I was learning hand embroidery from her. 💜 Thank you!
Wow! That was an amazing special edition. Thanks so much for sharing your collection, it was very interesting and I appreciate your taking the time in making this flosstube. Good job!
I'm always searching for that great find. Loved this wonderful video, and your likes and love of the history involved. This was so interesting, informative and entertaining. I should have been heading to bed.
Fantastic video Shelley thank you for taking the time to show us all of the wonderful treasures you have. As I write this I am excitedly awaiting delivery of my first two antique hoops a Duchess and Gibbs spring. The anticipation is killing me!!
I learn something new from your wealth of knowledge in each video but today was chock full of new information on the history of patterns from beginning to present day plus the great collection and differences of styles in hoops and scroll frames! Whew I’m so happy I watched this one and will keep a look out for a treasure I might come across to own as a keepsake! Like you Shellie, I prefer a smaller size hoop for stitching as it is less weight and easier to hold onto! Thank you stitchy friend for taking the time to answer the questions on this hobby we love! I wish you a great week of stitching what you love ❤️
Your presentation of hoops and their history was so interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love history and didn't know anything about the history of hoops. Thanks so much. Looking forward to your next presentation of sewing/stitching history. ❤
Wow! I really enjoyed learning about all the hoops. I am still not a stitcher I just enjoy watching flosstube while I knit. So I do appreciate you adding in a bit of knitting. Thanks for your great content.
Thank you so much! I am relatively new to stitching and I have been searching for a resource like this for a good long time without luck. Your video is a blessing and I am sure will be referred to as a resource for a great many novice stitchers.
Thank you so much for this video about all the different hoops! So appreciate you sharing your knowledge about these tools we use for our cross stitch. So appreciate you🪡🧵
Christy ( Floss Bossin’ Cousins) mentioned this floss tube and I have been meaning to listen to it. So much info. Thank you so much for doing the research and sharing it with us. I really enjoyed. 🙂
Thanks so much Shellie for the very informative dissertation on hoops! I love watching things like this and Rachel’s First Ladies series - love the history! I wonder if we could get Nicola or someone overseas to do one of these on Elizabethan hoops and accoutrements that were used by those ladies in the fine long dresses that we see in pictures? I’m a wanna be collector and now that you’ve educated me I’m going to start back in knowing a bit more than I did when I first started searching!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge on the history of hoops, I thoroughly enjoyed it! I will keep my eyes open when I'm in Antique stores in hopes of finding a treasure!
Shellie, thank you for taking the time to present this interesting and informative video about hoops. I had no idea about their history. Since I started stitching in the 80s, I think some of my hoops are antiques! ☺
Hi there, I thoroughly enjoyed the hoopla episode. You sent me on a quest through my hoops to see if I had any old hoops. Low and behold I found a duchess, a hold-tite, a Morgan, and a Gibbs manufacturer metal hoop. I still prefer my plain wood hoops over Q snaps like you do. Thank you for showing your stands and the manufacturers. I learned so much , thank you!
Shellie, I have to say this was one of your best episodes. I so enjoyed your knowledge of hoops and sharing that information . I hope you continue with your episodes and that you find new and interesting subjects to share. I would love to see an episode regarding threads especially silk threads. I use some over dyes but mainly DMC but would love to learn more about the silks you mention so I could be better informed when shopping threads. You do a fabulous job teaching, and I so appreciate your time spent sharing your knowledge. Thank you!
Such a wonderful video Shellie. I too started buying American dreams when I got back into this craft as well as my daylight stand. I just love it. As you know I’m into all the tools also. I now have several q snaps, Nurge as well as the huge Morgan hoop you shard with a few others. ( bought it by mistake thinking it was smaller) I will definitely use it for quilting! I have been given edmunds and use the tape for those as well like we do for the American dreams. I am always looking in antique shops for some antique hoops so maybe I’ll find me a few to cherish. Thanks for all the information. This will definitely go into my playlist to keep!
Shellie I enjoyed this so much. A lot of really interesting information. I swear nobody else can collect things quite like crafters, it’s a hobby in itself. That said, have you seen the Nurge hoops in wood? They come with screws and without.
What a special treat! I love embroidery hoops especially the ones that my grandmother passed on to me. I cherish the memories of remembering seeing her stitch with the hoops. Bravo to you for an awesome episode!
You helped me identify some of the vintage hoops in my small collection. I’ve been searching for a resource like this for the past few months. Thank you for putting this together!
What an education… Thank you so much. As I returned to cross stitch a couple years ago, I started stitching in hand, but I noticed that on some fabrics, a hoop helps my stitches look much better. I love that you share your knowledge and discoveries with us!
Thank you for showing all the different hoops! Especially the antique ones. I understand the differences much better now. Very educational! I Especially loved you showing the scroll rods and the differences. I have been thinking I want to try scroll rods for some of my larger projects but didn't know the differences or what I might be most interested in trying. So that was very helpful. Great video!
This was so great and informative! Thank you for doing this. I have not seen the metal hoops - interesting! I love the idea too of using something someone used so long ago.
Shellie What a great presentation! I also have collected many antique hoops and have done presentations for sampler groups. I love the history and the various patents to show the enhancement’s to hoops, hardware, wood, metal, etc. Queen are definitely the favorite and the market is out of hand. I bought my first one for $1.
Hi Shellie! Great job giving the history of hoops! I really enjoyed it. I stitch everyday with a 5” Gibbs wooden Holdtight hoop that I found many years ago at a yard sale. I have since found several more and a few Princess and Duchess hoops, but I have never found a Queen hoop. I’ve always looked for one, but I don’t think we have all the good antiques out west like you do in the Midwest. I will just keep looking! Happy stitching!! 🪡🧵🪡✂️✂️✂️🍁🍂🍁🍂
This was so informative. Thank you for doing the research and making this video. It was like listening to a friend who loves sharing her stroll through the history of hoops. It was an enjoyable journey.
Hi Shellie, so nice to see you again. Wow, this was a great tour of your hoops..love the history behind them, how neat! Interesting how they've progressed over the years. Thanks for sharing all of that, I appreciated it. Have a stitchy week...until next time ... 😁
That was so fun Shellie, thanks for sharing all of that info with us. I fortunately inherited a few vintage hoops from my Grandmother/Mother. I’ve bought all the latest greatest to try thru the years too; and funny enough my go to that I always love and reach for is a plastic red hoop I bought 40 years ago when I learned to cross stitch. 😅. I would love if you could demonstrate how you load your fabric and do the sewing method in your hoop. Thanks so much and God Bless. -Anne
What a wonderfully thorough presentation! I’m a recently-returning to cross stitcher. I was mesmerized during your talk. Loved seeing the antique up to modern hoops. Thank you for all of your effort!
Wow thank you for all of the information on the hoops. I haven’t heard about a lot of these hoops. Thank you for all your work and research in order to give us as much information on each type of hoop.
I really enjoyed seeing your hoop collection. I stitch in hand myself, so I'm not looking for hoops; having said that it would be cool to score one of the antiques some day. Thanks for a great episode!!
Thank you for your research, I found it very interesting. I have holdtite metal hoops that were my grandma’s and it was great to hear the history on them!
That was a great tutorial. I have several of those hoops, too! 😚 I have a Grace quilting hoop I would like to find it a good home. Thanks again. Take care
Thank you! So much fun and informative. I love hoops just feels right. I have an old metal hoop now must find out what it is. Lol. Thank you for taking the time to pull all that out to show us.
Sincere thanks to you Shellie for taking the time to make this informative & fun video. As a novice I’ve had SO many hoop questions & you have really given me the best info. I love the history so much- part of women’s heritage. Thank you again.
My oldest hoop (I still use) is one of my grandmother's I received as a gift as a young girl in the mid 1960s. I already knew how to sew by hand and machine and she felt is was time for me to learn embroidery. The hoop accompanied a crewel embroidery kit. Thanks for the memory! 🪡
