Montesilvano (Munzelvàne in local dialect) is an Italian town of 54 186 inhabitants of the province of Pescara in Abruzzo.
Located north of Pescara, with which it borders and forms a single urban agglomeration, it is divided into Montesilvano Colle, the old center where there are still remains of the ancient medieval buildings (administratively, a fraction), and Montesilvano Marina (or Montesilvano Spiaggia) , formerly Contrada Marina, the most populous and modern part of the municipality.
Montesilvano, the one settled on the hill, date back to 1114 and are contained in a document by the Norman king Roger II. The document mentions the church of S. Quirico (no longer existing today) and the town of Montesilvano is mentioned for the first time, reappearing a few years later, in 1140, in a description of the diocese of Penne. In the following centuries, the village, object of exchanges and redemptions, followed the fate of the Kingdom of Naples, passing first to the Angevins, then, in the fifteenth century, to the Aragonese, who granted it in fief to various local and foreign lords. In the sixteenth century it became part of the dominions of the Habsburgs of Spain, who held Montesilvano (and the entire Kingdom of Naples) until the Treaty of Utrecht (1713); through the treaty the State was ceded to Austria.

Montesilvano returned to the Bourbons (1815). In the twenties and thirties of the nineteenth century some citizens joined the Carboneria and, around the middle of that same century, the village, for its modest size and in the absence of men capable of governing it, was aggregated to the municipality of Cappelle sul Tavo.
On July 13, 1997, the President of the Republic Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, on a visit to the land of Abruzzo, chose the Parish Church of the city of "St. Anthony of Padua", to fulfill his Sunday religious precept.
Montesilvano, developed mostly along the Adriatic, has acquired its current appearance only in the second half of the twentieth century. After the devastation of the Second World War and the subsequent reconstruction, the city has in fact practically been reborn, focusing both on tourism development with the first hotel settlements (1963-1966) and on the commercial, services and, to a lesser extent, artisanal and industrial, which will determine the vigorous urban expansion of the last decades and the remarkable economic well-being that today distinguish it.
The city has in fact passed from about 7,300 inhabitants in 1951 to over 54,000 today (2017), with a real demographic explosion that, in this same period, has not known any other center of the region. The proximity to Pescara, the first demographic pole of Abruzzo, justifies, in large part, this tumultuous development, supported by a thriving tertiary (advanced tertiary sector, in some sectors) and by the many craft and industrial activities that have found a way to settle in this dynamic coastal strip. A prominent place in the local economy continues to be occupied by the tourism industry which rests on a hotel accommodation, which can boast a Palazzo dei Congressi, unique in the province, and gives rise to a wide range of industries: night clubs, bars, advanced tertiary activities, restaurants, etc.
