    E. Power Biggs was & remains atop of my favorite organist, but Richter!!! Wow!
Love him as a conductor, love him as an organist.
    Powerful dynamics... just incredible.

Perfect tempo. This is one of my favorite organ pieces. It is so often played to fast, in my humble opinion. This tempo allows so much more emotion to come through. Thanks for posting.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't agree, but with the way this is mic'd, and with the acoustics of the building, it's a perfect temp.

@@hopelessnerd6677 One of the beautiful things about music, especially with such a nice piece as this one, is that even within the boundaries of the given piece of music its self, there is room for the emotion and individuality of the performer. And like many other art forms, some interpretations of it will appeal to some, and perhaps not so much to others.
I agree with you about the room acoustics and the microphone placement/selection.

This organ in a marvel. The acoustics of the church help, but the unusual mixtures and the variety of 8' stops work a treat.

Brilliant and possibly the only organist to play that impossible trill on page 3 of the toccata!

La potenza del respiro sinfonico,la grande maestria nella scelta dei registri,la scelta dei tempi fanno di Richter "il sublime interprete di Bach ".

The fugue - and the really the work as a whole - gives me a sense of finality, as though the curtains are falling over the entire universe.

From 1:08 to 1:35 there is my favourite section of this beautiful masterpiece. I love how Richter with slower tempo and with clear articulation higlights dissonance and cadence. Quite often toccata is perfermed much faster and it lacks of emotion. Richter's style is so full of expressivity!

Nice dignified pace for the Fugue. Thanks for uploading! It is a pity more of these later live recordings were not released as CDs.

I dont have anything against faster tempos but the way Richter interprets Bach is really something else that sets it apart from the rest.

    Johann Sebastian Bach.
Questa è la Musica di Dio.
    -------
This is not simple music as we modern post of this century are used to understanding in this term.
Works such as the Toccata and Fugue in D minor BWV 538 are immovable pillars of Human genius, pearls of Divine Beauty which, by quoting I do not remember who, if ever we were to send a "life signal" to any other living beings in the universe, it it should contain at least one of the works of one of the greatest geniuses not only of music but of the entire history of humanity:
    Johann Sebastian Bach.
This is the Music of God.

The slower tempo is nice but most likely imposed by the cathedral's acoustics. Anything faster would have had muddy results.

Я чуть с ума не сошел от этого исполнения, причем понимание пришло не сразу. Гений знал, как исполнять Гения.
Правда, оговорюсь, что сказанное относится только к Токкате. Фугу я не понимаю и не слушаю. Не мое.
