This was the quickest 11 minutes of my life. His story is so captivating. He’s such a courageous and bold soul. He definitely has a purpose to fulfill.
Look, I felt tremendous admiration and sympathy for this guy too. But while doing an internet search about the accident to see if I could help the guy by sending him some money, I discovered this accident investigation done by the NTSB. Sadly, based on the report, the story is made up. Read the report...there were no heroics. No flying while being burned alive. No great decisions being made. No climbing out onto a wing of any airplane in flight. No incredible jump onto the ground. Witnesses say he never reported a fire. In fact, he asked tower to do a go-around to continue flying. Witnesses say he crashed while attempting a go-around, which is not something you ask for when on fire. He never reported a fire, never declared an emergency, never even asked for help (like fire trucks on the runway). Witnesses say the fire started AFTER impact, and the evidence shows no inflight fire occurred. They saw him exit the aircraft AFTER impact, not jump off the airplane in flight. In other words, he screwed up and crashed a perfectly good airplane. The post crash investigation showed nothing was wrong with the aircraft. In other words, the crash was caused by pilot error, not a fire. Judge for yourself why someone would make up a story. Lots of people do so for book deals, speaking tours, sympathy, charity, fame. Not saying that's what is happening here, but his story doesn't match the facts or witnesses. I have great sympathy for anyone who is burned, but people shouldn't be taken advantage of by abusing their kindness and sympathy over any horrible situation, especially if the lie by default blames others, like the mechanics, the aircraft owner, or the airplane manufacturer. app.ntsb.gov/pdfgenerator/ReportGeneratorFile.ashx?EventID=20071005X01520&AKey=1&RType=Factual&IType=FA
What an incredible storyteller. My jaw dropped when he said it was important for him to get back up in the air, even after everything. What an extraordinary man.
Yeah, he's really good at telling stories. When he repeated the words of his flight instructor at 3.39 he did so with a distinct american accent, so different from his normal voice, could really imagine the instructor being there for a second - even his facial expression changed during that bit
As an ex-RAF pilot and now commercial airline captain, that prophecy of FTFA (fly the f***ing aircraft) rings true and it saved your life. We now call it, ANC - Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. Doing this back on that fateful day was key and I am so impressed with your incredible bravery both with handling the escalating emergency and the aftermath during your recovery. Hats off to you.
I thought he must be SAS and a leader - calm, collected and in control and extremely humble. We need more men like him. He should speak to young men and work with the youth. He is a very impressive human being indeed.
Zentex I actually heard that the best way to survive. Staying has more of a higher risk of dying BC of 🔥. Also BC the plane can put all that metal on you.
Took his shoes off and placed them neatly down after flying a burning plane and jumping out before landing, I can't even do this after a day at work. What an absolute inspiration of a human being.
I was a professional pilot with about 17,000 hours before I retired due to medical complications. Your story is truly amazing!! Thank you for sharing and I’m so glad you’re still flying!!
His entire account of the accident is completely fabricated. The only truth to this all is that he did indeed suffer severe burns and is lucky to be alive. You can read it all in the NTSB Full Narrative.
I feel bad for this guy having to tell the story because he's obviously re-living every second of the trauma as he does it. Nevertheless, he survived to tell the tale. This is bravery. What a man.
I thought he explained it very well. From what I gathered I got the sense he's already done serious work on his mental health after that crash. I feel like he was able to tell the story without issue.
I thinks that’s called exposure therapy where the literal reliving of it helps to cure you of your trauma, so no, he’s getting better by doing this. It’s interesting that the clinical literature is so unknown to most people in the general public that we’ve essentially built an entire generation that is encouraged to not be exposed to anything they don’t like. And we wonder why anxiety, depression, and suicide have skyrocketed among these young people who don’t know how to deal with life.
Most people are too traumatized to provide enough detail to make imagery possible. I can almost imagine what he went through, it is incredible that a human being can stay calm or even live through what he has.

@First Last Superficial is innate to humans, so by human nature people will call him "ugly." It takes people a long time to appreciate us for our true beauty. Not many humans would say he is attractive on appearance ALONE, but as soon as he speaks his charisma comes out!
I do not know how much pain he did survived... but it beyond immesiruble... and did the impossible... and still he is in his mind. This is most heroic man i ever seen.
How the heck he landed that plane while literally being ON FIRE is beyond me. He must've been so full of adrenaline. Several comments have said his the reconstruction of his face is great. I googled his photos from before the crash and he was so handsome. He still is today! It really is amazing. He looks just like he did before the accident, just with a few more scars and less hair. Kudos and good work to his surgeons!
Yes! He had such amazing surgeons, they deserve some serious credit! Facial reconstruction is so difficult, he was very lucky to have such talented surgeons on his side. I've heard a couple stories of landing a plain with no flying experience, and that was amazing. But he was on fire, to think he was calm and collected enough to do that is very admirable.
Not to take away from his story, which is incredible, but I can't stop thinking about how charismatic he is. The way he speaks, the way he conveys feeling, his mannerisms. I couldn't look away for even a moment. What a lovely human and what an incredible story-teller.

@@jdbruiser I respect him for not killing himself. I just said it in the nice way, because most people would probably have killed themselves of the trauma. Maybe now your brain that is struggling to exist understands
@@jdbruiser a lot of people after a severe accident like this never get on with their life, never start working again and becoming a productive member of society. Even me myself after breaking my spine (horribly I may add), I went back to work for 2 years until one day I decided that I just couldn’t do it anymore…was in chronic horrible pain everyday, all I wanted to do was sleep all the damn time, and my wife was angry with having to help me get dressed in the morning (I used to wake up around 4am to get dressed and such because in the morning I am very sore and stiff and need a lot of extra time to get moving). When you have an injury as such, people aren’t as understanding as you would think/wish they would be….it’s hard, don’t fool yourself. I’m sure this man has horrible anxiety and feels like no matter where he goes people are staring…who knows if his wife has a with him still, or if his kids if they are little are afraid of how he looks. It’s amazing he flew again too. Since I hurt myself so badly in a fall I am absolutely horrified of heights (I wasn’t before) to the point that stepping on my apartment balcony I feel feint-ish. Im not only worried about the height itself, but that I will feint and fall while unconscious because I am now so afraid - a far cry from how things used to be, I used to be Damn near fearless. Learning to walk, pi%^ and sh%* again does a number on a person.

@Harrys Yodi Hermawan Yeah my brothers arm got stuck in a machine and it had to be cut off and he said he didn’t even feel anything until he got in the hospital.
It wasn’t right before this interview lol but he does look well for someone who was literally being cooked alive in an burning aluminum missile soaring through the sky for sure
Viktor there’s plenty of fire victims you can compare it too if you’re looking at burns specifically. But another plane crash survival was Travis barker and you can barely tell he even got burned, Travis jumped out on the a wing and landed in burning jet fuel too
Crowcide this is Travis barker of blink-182 and he went into depths about it servals times most recently with joe Rogan on JRE and took place while on tour with Adam Goldstein in 2008 and the duo were the only 2 that survived the crash in a Learjet 60, there manager, publicist and both pilots didn’t make it.
That advice from that flight instructor was gold. In an Emergency, FLY THAT PLANE, don’t give up in panic. The rest of course is the pilot & luck as well that the action he took did not get thwarted by further untoward Events.
It's so crazy to me that his adrenaline blocked out the pain of burning the whole time cause he was so focused on survival. Then felt the pain long after.
@@yslgandhi it really is, I can never compare my experiences to this brave man. But I remember when I got run over when I was 15, dislocating my hip, breaking both feet, fractured my arm and had significant injury to my back and I actually attempted to get up and walk because the adrenaline stopped me feeling any pain.
I know, my situation was in no way close to his experience but this one time, if it wasn’t for adrenaline, I would have been in so much pain but at the time I didn’t feel much of anything, just panic (I believe I also got some nerve damage from that experience which is I guess somewhat of a display of the situation)
My brother (a paramedic) has told me of people getting stabbed and not realising until they see the wound, it really is incredible...we are certainly built to survive
just as a quick reminder, this guy STOOD ON THE WING OF A F**KING MOVING PLANE, he then proceeded to jump off of said moving plane at a very high speed, and then take off his shoes
Landed a plane while literally on fire, then jumped 15 feet at 30 knots and lived long enough for the ambulance to arrive, all the while suffering from massive internal bleeding. wtf is this man made of? absolute savage.
And actually took the time and energy to take off his shoes and socks and place them NEATLY by his side during all the agony. Whatever training he received, we just need a outline of that to increase everyone's life productivity.
Its a fake story apparently. Many professional pilots below said that this story is fabricated and he was just incompetent and crashed it. If it sounds like a movie, it is.

It’s interesting that the clinical literature is so unknown to most people in the general public that we’ve essentially built an entire generation that is encouraged to not be exposed to anything they don’t like.
