This was 12 years ago and things are even 100 times worse today! Now we have untalented singers that are TikTok or insta famous that are immediately signed with record labels because they can prove they have audience!! He is absolutely right, prince had no chance in this day & age if he didn’t know how to be famous in social media!🤦♀️🤷♀️
I think it's always been about money but realizing that you have to have the art to sell. Nowadays it even more about money and the art is incidental. But the masses have the power. They get what they demand and pay for.
IN 2019 you'd have to be completely insane to sign to a major label. There is no need for them any more. According to Rolling Stone - a good source - Indy bands will sell a BILLION dollars worth of music next year. No one will enslave these bands. And no one will try to prevent them from seeing any money for as long as possible. Artists must ALLY TOGETHER to stop the illegal improprieties of major labels. They are, as Jello Biafra once said. THIEVES.
He’s absolutely right. I just got offered a developmental deal by some Joe Scmoe company called Bentley Records but they’re not offering an advance. Even though it doesn’t seem like a big risk, what do they get out of it though I don’t have a name yet?

Unfortunately it's so True because in this day and age that's all we are hearing and seeing, Rubbish short term artists who Exploit the True Art and Meaning of Music and Content. All we see and hear is meaningless words that don't make sense, Extreme negative content sold to the youth that has No message or education to it. God if only labels didn't run for money then we'd see a Healthy Positive Industry and Business and a good outcome on the world itself. No wonder this universe turns upside down every 24/7.
I've got 3 albums great music ,I have no band I have had to play every instrument ,not sure which route to take.internet is not the route I'm going to take
these days its all about image,and good looks,not talent.a lot of todays music is crap .its all hip hop,mediocrity, talentless people who look good,but cant even sing,and promotion promotion promotion.then there are shadowy sinister elements,possibly artists who sell their very souls for fame,and fortune.

Not really the "'situation" as you call it was constructed by the major labels. And they should NOT be "THE INDUSTRY". that should be ALL OF US.
