The tensions between Layne and Jerry likely had way more to do with his drug addiction than merely getting sick of each other from touring and whatnot. It's soul crushing and depleting to love an addict in normal circumstances. Loving an addict while your career trajectory and finances are DIRECTLY AFFECTED by that addict has to be multiplied so many levels. Yes, they all loved Layne and considered him a brother, but knowing what opportunities they were giving up, music they couldn't make while seeing someone you love like a brother destroy themselves day by day for years ("slow suicide.")...that's indescribably HEAVY SHIT to experience and endure. I feel so much heartache for all four of them, Layne, most of all. He was the best singer there ever was or likely will ever be. By all accounts, he was also extremely caring and kind. If only... 😔❤

Yeah, absolutely.. I still feel crushed by what happened to him.he IMMEDIATELY became my favorite singer, and band, of all time after getting to see them open up for Van Halen in like '91.. bought every single album the second we could and learned every single note and lyric as quickly as possible.
My goodness he was such an incredible gift, to humanity and obviously to music..
*I'm sure the fact that I have been through a lot of things, similar to these guys and Layne more specifically.. I can't imagine just how bad of a hell he went through at times, fukin Sickman...😢
Nothing but love for basically everything Layne ever sang, ESP Màd Season which was a ray of hope seeing the new found excitement and happiness in Layne's face at their live at the Moore theater show.. God I wish it would have been different than the way it went 🙏❤️🙏❤️

This wasn't a break up song between Jerry and Layne, but I can see how it can be interpreted that way.
People forget how young these guys were, they were barely adults and Layne had a really hard time with it. I think he was just over it and wanted to be a normal young adult but couldn't go back. Jerry was on his path to being a star and having a solid music career, he was loving his dream, and Layne just wasn't on the same path with him. It created a lot of tension. Jerry took a long time after he went solo and after Layne's death to really grow up and let go of his anguish about his career being derailed too soon and to stop blaming Layne for his disease. Now he only has good, genuinely loving memories for Layne, he can see the situtation from an adult's perspective, with 20 years more life experience under his belt. Something Layne never had the chance to see.

That's how most people interpret that song but actually " Don't Follow" was written on tour by Jerry. The song was about Jerry losing his long time gf Courtney Clark and losing his friend Mike Starr. And Layne hated the song.
Its misunderstood just like "Down in the Hole".
People think it's about Layne's addiction but once again the song is about Jerry's gf Courtney Clark.
Most songs Layne wrote about were about Drugs and Demri. Jerry wrote about family and Courtney. Most his solo songs are about her.
"Bargain Basement Howard Hughes" is Jerry writing about him and Layne.
Layne and Jerry didn't have problems til after the final show and showed the worst when they wrote and did the last 2 songs "Died" & "Born Again",
And that was bc Layne was so far gone there they couldn't even finish 2 songs.

I never knew Layne Staley, but I feel immense empathy for him that he struggled for so many years. Wish it could have turned out differently for him. Thanks for your videos.

Are you certain that Jerry wrote this song about Layne? It could be also about a romantic relationship or anything else.

These guys got me through the best and worst of times in my life- saw them open up for Van Halen in like '91, not long after I graduated from high school and they were ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL. Loved them and Layne ESP ever since..
There was a brief ray of sunshine when Mad Season came out, seeing the new found excitement and happiness in Layne's face gave hope that things were going to be different...
      🙏❤️🙏❤️
