This is very helpful. I was doing a lesson drawing an apple and with the blend stump it just got so smudgy and dark it looked like part of it was an apple and part of it was a charcoal brick.

You can use these on any sketching pencils. It works best on the darker graphites.

liesaremeanless not really, the white pencil more ‘erases’ it than smudges it, a white pencil is good for hi-lights

I used to be a digital artist and I stopped on making digital art because my tablet was broken so I decided to ask my aunt to buy me a whole set on pencils and when I got them I was like"what does these other things even do?" and that's when I knew that they were actually very useful

They work with pencils that have a dusty formula, such as charcoal and pastel pencils, as the paper stump blends the dust into the paper. Best, Derwent

You can always buy a leather chamois from the auto department of any supermarket and cut off small pieces to use

hope you found that these stumps are made of paper you can try just a piece of paper towel or scrap paper. I know it is not the same accuracy, but at least it does not produce the same sound

+Daryll Pagao If you haven't found the answer yet, yes. You can use it on graphite as well. I used these plenty of times in art class with standard sketching pencils.

I really should use my paper stump on charcoal. It works well with pencils, but it seems to work much better on charcoal. But I need to learn how to draw with charcoal first, cause I'm rubbish at it.
